DeMint Says 'No' to 2012 Run for President
Pundit Press ^ | 1/27/2011 | Thomas Ferdousi

This news could either clear the primary field, or in fact, make it more muddled as other candidates join the fray. DeMint's announcement is not altogether unexpected, but it made clear his intentions. He had previously denied running for President, but many believed that the door could still be open due to excess spending and big government policies.

There is also a nascent 'Draft Jim DeMint' movement on the internet and his name is mentioned even in higher political circles. Last week he came in fifth in the New Hampshire straw poll above Newt Gingrich and Mike Huckabee. Despite the announcement, there will likely still be calls for his candidacy.

Can’t blame DeMint for not running... he probably LIKES his sanity. Besides, he never made any moves leading anyone to believe he had designs on the WH, anyway. He’s effective where he is.

As part of my “dream team”, he’d be a great Senate Majority Leader. Imagine Jim setting the Senate’s agenda!

Senate Majority Leader would also be a great role for him. He’d bring class back to the position.

The Senate is for the the taking if the GOP plays their cards right.......

......But I’m talking about a GOP who could have four of a kind in a card game but get out bluffed by a pair of deuces held by the democrats.

DeMint would make a hell of a Senate majority leader!!

I agree. And I also understand. The next real conservative Constitutional President will be lucky to survive his sanity trying to make the changes to the unconstitutional Federal Government we have now. Any conversion from communism back to the real America would be extremely hard.

Good. He’ll do a better job in the senate. He needs to keep the pressure on other senators to cut spending.

Well, I hate to say it, but DeMint has been around long enough to know that the GOP establishment is simply not going to allow a real conservative to win the nomination.

They will pull out their bag of tricks to make sure that whoever gets the nod is one of them, or at least meets their approval.

The establishment GOP has done more whining about the Tea Party than the democrats.

By the way, Mike Pence said he will give his answer by the end of the month. I look for him to run for Indiana Governor.

As far as defining the field of candidates, there’s not a lot of clarity until Sarah Palin declares she’s running. That’s what everyone is watching for.

I know people get all worked up by the Presidency but the Congress/Senate is the engine! Without solid Conservatives in these roles the Presidency means nothing.
