There's still some of that going on up there.

Not to our knowledge. So if you can't name names of any current practitioners, I'd suggest you keep your accusations of perversions to your own venue.

Humble, I got it.

JJ

Libertine state legislatures have attacked marriage for the past 40+ year and have, in many situations, reduced it to an emotional whim to be ended upon the first hint of difficulty. They lie about the nature of marriage (marriage is life-long) and the effects of divorce on children and society as a whole. The same state legislators who have reduced almost every state to bankruptcy have bankrupt the family institution.

So it is a breath of fresh air to announce at least one state may have a change of heart. Several senators in North Dakota have introduced a bill which would make divorce more difficult and makes marriages stronger.

Senate bill 2367 [link] requires at minimum a one-year waiting period before a divorce may be issued. In that year both partners are required to go to 10+ counselling sessions — and the judge will have the power to require the couple to attend together. The requirements are waived in abuse situations. And they are not binding on couples who do not have minor children in the home.

North Dakota may enact reasonable measures to reduce divorce.
While no-fault divorce will still be the law of the land and any individual wishing to abandon their family will still be given the legal cover to do so, this is an important first step in helping distressed relationships recover. Studies show that couples who are on the verge of divorce and decide to stay married are happier, wealthier, and have children with better grades and fewer emotional problems five years later than their counterparts who go through with it.

This bill is not yet law, so please take a moment to write a senator or house member from the North Dakota state legislature [click here].

As usual, the liberal mainstream media opposes any effort to keep marriages together, [see here]. It might be a good idea to flood them with letters letting them know how misguided they are.

Update: A reader has pointed out that all three senators who have introduced the bill are Catholic. It seems that the only Christians, at this point, to put forth significant effort to keep marriages together have been Catholic. Any other Christians want man-up and step-up to the plate?

You're talking about some of the in laws over on one of the uncle's side ~ of course I'm not going to name their names ~

You guys can pretend you're not particularly socially progressive but facts are facts.

If you are aware of people currently engaging in incest and have not reported it, you are an accessory to the crime.

If you are referring to something that happened 70-80 years ago, kindly don't paint our whole state now with your in-laws behaviour of nearly a century ago.

Them's the facts.

I don’t like divorce at all, but the government needs to back away from this. The track record of politicians when it comes to marriage is pathetic. Until they clean up their acts they have no business even suggesting this.

How about something that was going on a mere 40 years ago ~ I believe the old guy is dead though, because the heirs and assigns took over the place and last I heard they were selling it off.

I've been telling you guys how it is that a place like North Dakota can elect a Far Leftwingtard Extremist like Byron Dorgan ~ apparently it's pretty easy for a certain segment.

Lawyer Full Employment Act

Not just lawyers, but Social Services in general. Of course, even counsellors can look back through statistics.

Yes, we currently have a budget surplus, but that is because of the current oil boom.

Unfortunately, spending has increased at the State Level, and not just for infrastructure repairs and regulatory costs associated with the boom. (There is a movement afoot to rein in State spending and return it to what we consider more sane levels.)

In the Meantime, every agency is lining up to get their slice of the oil money pie, and unfortunately, that means that many are not paying attention while the oil money is rolling in.

This measure might even seem like a good idea to some conservatives who haven't thought it through, but at the bottom of it all, the last time a boom went bust, the divorce rate tripled in the county I live in, and that would mean a tripled mandatory caseload for a year of counselors without the oil money coming into the state's coffers.

People who relocated to work would have to somehow manage to jump through the hoops to get that divorce, and any joint liabilities would remain unsettled for the duration.

This sounds like a recipie for disaster to me, not just for the aggrieved party involved, but for the State budget as well.

Catch up a few decades, willya? Byron is out, Pomeroy is out, and Conrad sees the clouds on his horizon (he won't run again and may yet face resignation or recall).

Things are a mite different here than they were 40 years ago (two oil booms back).

As to how they got elected, it is a simple formula.

Promise the cities money (half the population was in Fargo, Grand Forks, and Bismarck--none of which have any extractive industry in town). Promise the aging demographic you'll save Social Security. Promise the farmers more programs to cash in on.

You have hit the three biggest 'special interest groups' in the state.

For years, the Democrats managed to convince people that they would bring home the bacon. But we finally reached the point where the Dem's loser policies were hurting people more than they were buying votes--especially in a largely rural state, and the margins by which those former Congress people won shrank pretty steadily from one election to the next.

The internet has changed much, and its a lot easier keeping track of what is being done by whom.

Within a decade, two of the three Dems are out and the other one is going to go.

But painting the whole state as perverts because people voted for dems is like saying all america is composed of perverted leftards because Obama got elected and the Dems had both houses of Congress.

I certainly didn’t paint everybody as a pervert ~ but from what I know about and have heard the land owning classes certainly had more than their fair share of strange people ~ and a Byron Dorgan fits right into that pattern.

Take that up with him. The rest of us haven’t been Senators, either.

re the genius muawiyah

Give the man his due respect, Joe.

He’s retired Post Office.

That means between him and us we know everything there is to know in the world.

He knows everything except that he’s a g.d. idiot.

And we know that.

What happened to “until death do us part”? Liberals have already made marriage weak with rampant divorce. If anything, this law doesn’t go far enough in ensuring God’s bond between man and wife is maintained.

Cuz he's a lily-livered yellow-belly skunk of a blog pimp who sees FReepers as just a means to get hits for his lame blog.
