Illegal Immigration Advocates Criticize South Dakota Rep

The Rapid City Journal reports that a pro-illegal alien Hispanic group called “Somos Republicans” is criticizing South Dakota State Representative Manny Steele (R-Sioux Falls) for his use of the term “anchor babies.”

The term was used in discussion yesterday of HB 1199, a bill which sought to prevent illegal aliens from using their children born in the United States as a vehicle to escape judgment for breaking our laws and violating our national borders.

During committee discussion of HB 1199, advocates of illegal immigration objected to the use of the term “anchor babies,” a term which describes children born in the United States to illegal aliens and thus the children are entitled to U.S. citizenship under the 14th Amendment. Illegal immigration opponents also accused supporters of HB 1199 of racism and racist motives for wanting to uphold our national sovereignty and our nation’s laws.

At sight has pic of Mexican flags flying at a protest in Chicago against immigration enforcement . I must agree with the writer, we must not allow them to hijack the use of language, as well as the terms of the debate. Every time they do catch illegals, who do have kids they always indicate, breaking up families, the child had not say or knows no other country. This is very much in line with what the term anchor babies, implies.

"As our gutless brigade of “Republicans” in Pierre have been doing of late, they caved and allowed HB 1199 to be killed in committee yesterday."

Dang.

To validate that I am not a bigot I'm married to a gal from Mexico. She and her family are great people. But, terms that include the word Mexican are unacceptable to many who are themselves from Mexico. Instead, including my in-laws, many from Mexico prefer their nationality be referred to as Hispanic. It is what it is so I fail to see why some people from Mexico get offended when they are called Mexicans. My wife and her family will only say they prefer the term Hispanic. Please help me here, how does that equate with Mexico? Same as the term “Anchor baby” regardless as to the country where one is from, it is what it is.

The next thing we will see is a robbers and muggers union. They will advocate against things like concealed carry, gated communities and burglar alarms.

When a hispanic person next door to me came over into my drive way and took the license plate off my car and I spotted it on the girls car. She had a 30 day paper window tag and I thought she got the same cancer awareness plate I did. Later in the day, i went some where, coming back to my car, I noticed my plate was removed and knew the young lady had taken my plate. I filed a police report and I got another plate. I left home she was not at home, was gone about 5 minutes,in coming back home, I saw she was back home and I saw she pitched my plate into an empty field. I went over there and confronted her about this, made my case, I told her she is lucky I do not call the police to press charges. She asked how can I prove it, I indicated I am a witness, thats enough to get you arrested or cause you to have legal problems. Once I indicated the police, she went off with what do you think because I am Mexican , the police coming out will bother me. I told her that was between her and the police all the same, I told her, I did not care if her hair was green and pink,I can still call police regardless of her race.At this time none of them will come onto my yard . I never did get the money to replace my plate. I had been super nice to these folks,we were on good terms until this happened. I did a lot to help them and this is how they repay me and they now think I am a racist.

They do not think you are a racist. They think that they can bully you by _calling_ you a racist.

There is a difference.

The last thing I want to do is offend any rational person whose ethnicity is different from my own. With that said, just as liberals commonly do, regardless of their ethnicity, when they are caught or cornered in unethical behavior or in bigoted belief, they attack and play the victim. Trying to be fair and or rational with someone who lacks the ability of reason is futile. Fortunately not all from the south of our border are like that, just the ones who think we (the US) owe them a living. What's yours is theirs, she didn't break no stinking lo.

All due respect to the person whose wife is Mexican but I hate Mexicans. I hate them for their disrespect of my nation, it’s laws, our language and our culture. I hate them for their violent, criminal deviousness, their sloth in refusing to fix the land, the verdant, rich and beautiful land God gave them, I hate them for the violence they visit on my fellow citizens and I hate their arrogance and their bullying Americans into trying to prevent us from enforcing our own laws. If Mexicans put half the energy into fixing their country that they do into destroying ours then maybe theirs would be a land they wouldn’t be running away from.

My 2¢ worth-—

You are considered the rich gringo who should be more generous with them. Problem is they will resent you no matter how nice and generous you are. So it’s a waste of time to have anything to do with them. You found this out at the end of the story instead of the beginning. Hey, I might have done the same.

Too bad that won't fit in a tagline....

At a guess, I would say that Hispanic is an ethnic term, and Mexican is a nationality. Hispanic, therefore, is a milder, more inclusive term, which describes a culture rather than tagging someone as a foreign national.

Hispanic is redolent of a heritage - the Spanish language and its varied empire. Mexico is a country with an inferiority complex in regard to its large neighbour.

Hispanic might make one think of flamenco dancing and baroque churches. Mexican might make one think of criminals and poverty.
