Krauthammer: Egypt at a ‘tipping point,’ predicts ‘explosion’ when the mosques empty tomorrow
TheDailyCaller ^ | 02/10/2011 | Jeff Poor

Hosni Mubarak’s vague address to the Egyptian people on Thursday has led to uncertainty in the country that has some prognosticating the worst.

On Thursday’s Fox News Channel’s “Special Report,” Charles Krauthammer accused the Egyptian president of being delusional, and said his response will lead to “an explosion.”

“That was a shocking speech and what is shocking about it is they had raised the expectation of the crowd in the square,” Krauthammer said. “There was an announcement by the military earlier that their demands would be met, as we saw all of the dancing, and all of a sudden you get a speech where the president of Egypt is clueless, delusional, speaking in paternalistic tones the way he did two weeks ago, as if nothing has happen[ed] — speaking to the demonstrators as his children. They see him as their tyrant. It seems to me that they are at a point where they are going to have an explosion.”

And what Egypt does is somehow Krauthammer’s business? Delusion is hip deep in some parts of this world.

LED to uncertainty? Hey Charles, the level of uncertainty and the potential for disaster as a result would've been far greater if Mubarak had stepped down immediately. That would've left a huge power vacuum into which the only organized group in the country would've enthusiastically stepped -- the Muslim Brotherhood. They've been waiting to do so for many decades.

I don't think the Kraut has the insight to predict what will happen. I doubt an "explosion." Psychiatrists routinely over-predict violence and catastrophe. They don't have the empirical base, just some sort of pompous "judgment." Or whatever. They are about the same as any other msm pundit.

Charles Krauthammer is delusional for PRETENDING to be
a shrink, while enabling, first, the Sociopath-in-Chief to
fool "most of the people, some of the time" and
destroy America and its allies,
and second, al Qaeda-Ikhwan in their facade with
CODE-PINK, Weather Underground, Int. Communism,
and the DNC (for whom Krauthammer has labored since Mondale).

“Or I think, the one possible outcome that might be a beneficent one would be a coup of some sort — a soft coup in which Mubarak and those around him are pushed out in dignity, they’re not shot, and the military takes over, has a provisional government, appoint technocrats and has a transition to elections and democracy.”

“Unless he goes, there is going to be violence.”

Too many Americans DON’T GET IT. Krauthammer DOES. AT THIS POINT, there is no connection with what is happening in Egypt and the Iranian Revolution.

If Mubarak is NOT removed by the military and they fire on their own people, Mubarak and those who support him ANYWHERE will be dragging Egypt and those who rely on its stability into the kind of Gotterdaqmmerung of chaos from out of which only a Muslim Brotherhood is capable of leading it.

AND THAT we cannot afford.

So you live in Egypt? As BAD As Mubarak may well be, he has been a 'good' friend to US over these past many years. Yes, we in part bought his friendship, but what else is new.

You have NO first hand knowledge that this eruption is unlike the Iranian Revolution and to say you do is looking into a dark crystal ball. BamBam wants Mubarak gone that alone says it is NOT good for US!!! Regardless of what Krauthammer claims.

I cannot watch these so call news reports that just interview reporters somewhere in the darkness telling me who is behind this uprising... See now I remember how the Tea Party protest were reported and treated, and the Jon Stuart media, I do not care what cable network they collect their paychecks from are not credible to report squat!!!!

I have as much knowledge of the situation, apparently, as the Administration, and probably more. I rely on credible sources like Krauthammer.

“As BAD As Mubarak may well be, he has been a ‘good’ friend to US over these past many years. “

Guess you agree with Joe Biden that he is no dictator and Hilary Clinton that his regime is stable.

We paid Mubarak - A LOT - BILLIONS. Yeah, he helped us - sort of. BUT he also screwed us because he FAILED to create the kind of social atmosphere which would obviate the kind of revolution occurring here now, because he FAILED to move his country towards some kind of meaningful democracy. God knows he had the time and the money - OURS.

WE we pay the fiddler, he should play our damn tune. And one of our tunes must be no more business as usual with bloody tyrants unless they DEMONSTRATE they are changing their ways. The Egyptian military is full of leaders. We need another one now. A better choice than this bastard.

“BamBam wants Mubarak gone that alone says it is NOT good for US!!!”

Well, for right now. His position has been all over the map. And even a broken clock hits the right time on occasion.

What do YOU want? Our “ally” and his SS Vice President to order the military to fire on tens of thousands of peaceful demonstrators? Hey, THAT would bolster the Muslim Brotherhood’s recruitment rolls.

The Saudis want Mubarak to stay also. And they are such GREAT friends of ours.

“Regardless of what Krauthammer claims.”

I’ll take Krathammer’s opinion this over yours any day. He has a track record on foreign policy which is pretty good.

Some people are totally incapable of thinking “outside the box.”

OK, I guess I was asking for the Moon! ;) Have at him all you want over his pompous delivery. I rarely watch any of these people other than a clip on the net, they all annoy me.

On the serious event at hand, I can’t disagree with K’s take on the Mubarack/Military flubbing of how the people were handled.

A significant fraction of Egyptians are relatively educated and secular compared to surrounding countries. Some of them are 22-50 year old women who yearn for economic and social freedom in their lives. They know how they will suffer if the MB acquires power, but they are taking that chance. They are the ones deserving of our good thoughts as they are caught between the jaws of Mubarak and the Muslim Bloodyhood, who represent the worst outome possible for Egypt and the world.

I don’t want to see a bloodbath. I wish the military would take over and move up the elections so the MB has less time to spread its’ poison. What I don’t know is the level of MB influence inside the military. Complicated. All we can do is observe.

You know, the one thing that has been clear for a couple of weeks now is that our news analysis industry and the professionals at the White House have been consistently wrong with their observations and expectations.

My feeling since late last week was that this was basically over and that Mubarak had won, despite the anxious talk by our media personalities. I still feel that way today.

Maybe I’m wrong. I’m no expert on the region, but it seems to me that if the mob was going to pull the trigger, they would have done it last week sometime. I just don’t think they have what it takes.

Minority position, I know. Wait and see.

Predicting an 'explosion' is hardly 'credible', might be suggestive given the man is a trained 'shrink'.

Well so we should just write the checks to the 'brotherhooooood'?

WE we pay the fiddler, he should play our damn tune. And one of our tunes must be no more business as usual with bloody tyrants unless they DEMONSTRATE they are changing their ways. The Egyptian military is full of leaders. We need another one now. A better choice than this bastard.

Careful which 'bastard' you willingly purchase.

I do not think you have a CLUE who the majority of Americans voted for and elected in 2008. IF the Saudis and Mubarak are sooooo bad why in the .ell is the present administration on the fast track to make US just like them??????????

“Regardless of what Krauthammer claims.”

I’ll take Krathammer’s opinion this over yours any day. He has a track record on foreign policy which is pretty good. Some people are totally incapable of thinking “outside the box.”

My reaction to the oh so intellectual Krauthammer is his prediction of an 'explosion' when the mosques empty tomorrow. NOT words a supposed trained shrink typically would use given the recent lessons of incivility in the usage of 'vitriolic' language. Most especially since NOT one human being on this planet knows with certainty who is going to take power. We have NO clue who the 'community activist' might be lurking in the shadows of the multitude of protesters.

I agree with your assessment. The schism we don’t want to see will be between senior and junior members of the officer corps - or if it does take place, the old guard is retired. There isn’t an Egyptian military officer under the age of 50 who hasn’t at some point in his career been involved in a close relationship with the US military. They are the ones who we are going to have to rely on the pull the fat out of the fire. Well educated, secular leadership who understands that the future of their country isn’t going to be found in the 15th century. These guys have seen (some first hand) the trajectory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran and don’t want any part of it.

I watched the folks when they got the bad news... it did not look like the mobs that took on LA or others that looted and burned their own neighborhoods... like part of our pop does on occasion...I do wonder how many are “good guys” trapped between the extreme elements... only about 300 “angry” folks took off to the palace where the tanks and m-guns are set up... we’ll see... Egypt must have many decent folk that just want their freedom and are willing to protest for it... sorry to say bloodshed will insue... and the extreme elements will not change... might makes right for all those who belive we are part of the goo-to-you-by-way-of-the-zoo crowd i.e. the survival of the fittest... and can one “reason” with religious fanatic...? imho - they must be dealt with the same way they would deal with you... fill in the blanks..

“That was a shocking speech and what is shocking about it is they had raised the expectation of the crowd in the square,”...what raised the expectations of the crowd was the chatter all morning long in the press that Mubarak was going to resign - supposedly by one report coming from our own CIA chief Leon Panetta - Mubarak had only announced that he was going to speak to his country and when ultimately he didn't resign as the mob had been led to believe he was going to by the repeated press reports, their outrage was perfectly predictable - can you say "setup", Charles, by someone who wants to see Egypt descend into chaos and the army react strongly to put down any violence - either Mubarak himself or the secular Muslim Brotherhood.........

This is so silly. Mubarek and the military are inseparable. He has spent the last 35 years customizing the military bureaucracy to conform to his leadership. Mubarek has now discovered that the plot to overthrow him was hatched in DC. Obama is in deep water and will shortly drown. The military will declare martial law if the demonstrations do not end forthwith. There will, then, be a bloodbath purging Obama’s trouble makers. Egypt for the Egyptians will be maintained. Ties with Israel will become stronger as Israel demonstrates its absolute commitment to Egyptian stability.

Just remember, 2 million US citizens marched in the streets of DC to oppose Obamacare. O was not impressed. 1 million kids rampage in the streets of Cairo and O sees the march of democracy. The boy president has overplayed his hand.

His reaction/response to Sarah Palin's acceptance speech is what woke me up from his hypnotic prose. Most especially given that anybody with an ounce of common sense knew very well who and what BamBam was, and yet Mr. Krauthammer appeared to swoon over him as the second coming.
