They are already planting Muslim characters in all kinds of shows, to demonstrate how normal and unthreatening these people are. For example, Abed is the smartest and nicest character in a show called "Community". That is taking the "Magic Negro" concept and using it for Muslims.

There is a big push on right now for Indians, too, but at least they truly are non-threatening. Kelly from "The Office" and an entire show devoted to teaching the masses about India called "Outsourcing". Although in that show, one of the workers is Muslim, and of course, non-threatening.
