Raising taxes will create jobs: AFL-CIO chief
The American Thinker Blog ^ | February 27, 2011 | Rick Moran

Such economic illiteracy is unusual, even for a labor union chief:

"What's the best way to get Americans back to work? Raise taxes, according to AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka. Specifically, he wants to raise the federal gas tax as a means to fund infrastructure spending. 'We need a dedicated source of revenue to create infrastructure in this country,' he tells Aaron Task in the accompanying clip.

"'We need to create jobs. The best way to do that is through infrastructure development.' Simply maintaining the existing infrastructure in this country will cost $2.2 trillion over five years, according to the American Society of Civil Engineers. That doesn't include Obama's objective of high-speed rails and green energy projects.

"Trumka didn't say specifically how much he would raise the gas tax, but mentioned he's shown the President a $256 billion plan to improve infrastructure. If every billion spent on infrastructure creates 35,000 jobs, as he claims, this package would create close to 9 million jobs over the next five years.

"The idea would also improve America's fiscal and competitive future, says Trumka. 'There's also a downstream effect, you put people back to work, they pay taxes, they don't use services, they're contributing, other jobs are created along the way as well,' he explains."

Only the most liberal of Democrats - by definition, the least knowledgeable of how our economy works - believes that raising taxes will create jobs. And considering that the price of a gallon of gas is about to go through the roof because of the turmoil in Libya, raising the gas tax would probably force many Americans to quit their jobs because their commutes would become so expensive, it wouldn't be worth it.

Someone send Trumka a copy of "Wealth of Nations."

Are liberals stupid or are they extremely wily. They have seen the results of their policies. They know what they are doing. After all, aren’t they the smartest people in the world? The only logical conclusion is they want to destroy the economy so they can rebuild it in their own world image.

It's all the selfish/self-serving lifeview that they claim the conservatives suffer from.

He's surely thinking Union jobs, because that's about the only folks who benefit from taxes as far as jobs go - taxes either pay for them, or to create the projects they work on.

You are correct - their image is the goal; the lowliest leech among them will be held in higher regard than the most dedicated and talented producers that fund them.

Parasite Nation being lead by the insane.

Let’s simply raise taxes and all will be OK. Why have we just raised the minimum wage to $20.00 an hour and solve poverty?

While I agree with placing tarrifs on Chinese goods flooding into America, I see us losing a trade war because our own people will demand increased wages to pay for the new cost increases in goods.

What an insane circle Trunpka wants us to run in.

You are correct - their image is the goal; the lowliest leech among them will be held in higher regard than the most dedicated and talented producers that fund them.

For the Left, and the Democrats/media are the Left, politics is a blood sport. It is all about power. There are no rules. Lies and deception are fair and necessary weapons of battle.

For the right it is a gentlemen's debate about which are the best ideas and who will best implement them.

It is like us taking a hanky to a knife fight. We must stop being patsies. Political correctness is their way to keep us quiet and off balance. To Hell with PC. It is killing us.
