Favorite line from ATLAS SHRUGGED?

Posted on 03/04/2011 6:41:17 PM PST by albionin

Just saw a clip from the new ATLAS SHRUGGED movie and thought it would be fun to hear everyone's favorite line from the book if you've read it. There are so many to pick from but I think mine is when Francisco has just deliberately caused the crash of D'anconia Copper's stock and he says to James Taggert: "money is the root of all evil, so I just got tired of being evil". Love it!

For subscribers to Netflix, check out the excellent:

Ayn Rand: A Sense of Life

Wow, this should be in every Freeper’s DVD collection.

James misquotes the Bible. The real quote is: “The love of money is the root of all evil”. Money is just a tool and has no morality.

Here’s mine from “the Fountainhead”: “20 years ago I’d have punched you in the nose with the greatest of pleasure. You’re coming to work for me tomorrow at 9:00.

Can you do one of those pics but have “Who is Barry Soetoro?” in it?

I want to see billboards all over America with that question displayed, before the 2012 election. Unless I can come up with a few million dollars, it ain’t gonna happen.

Ted Striker: Surely you can’t be serious.

Rumack: I am serious, and don’t call me Shirley.

“A viler evil than to murder a man, is to sell him suicide as an act of virtue. A viler evil than to throw a man into a sacrificial furnace, is to demand that he leap in, of his own will, and that he build the furnace, besides.”

Francisco d'Anconia: "...The rotter who simpers that he sees no difference between the power of the dollar and the power of the whip, ought to learn the difference on his own hide—as, I think, he will.

"Until and unless you discover that money is the root of all good, you ask for your own destruction. When money ceases to be the tool by which men deal with one another, then men become the tools of men. Blood, whips and guns—or dollars. Take your choice—there is no other—and your time is running out."

That is probably the most “true” statement in the book. “There’s no way to rule innocent men.” That is what is happening to America. Those who want power are making sure that nobody is innocent. They can only crack down on the criminals, so everyone is made a criminal.

I was forced to read one of Ayn Rand's “brilliant” novels out loud in my high school English class (I went to one of those public H.S.’s where supposedly her stuff isn't read), and all I remember thinking was “I'm going to rip my hair out if I have to spend one more day reading inane lines from ‘Liberty 5-3000’s tedious monologues” ;-)
