Favorite line from ATLAS SHRUGGED?

Posted on 03/04/2011 6:41:17 PM PST by albionin

Just saw a clip from the new ATLAS SHRUGGED movie and thought it would be fun to hear everyone's favorite line from the book if you've read it. There are so many to pick from but I think mine is when Francisco has just deliberately caused the crash of D'anconia Copper's stock and he says to James Taggert: "money is the root of all evil, so I just got tired of being evil". Love it!

Admit it! Ann Rand is a GREAT philosopher, but a LOUSY novelist!

“’I will put an end to this, once and for all,’ he said. His voice was clear and without feeling. That was all he said and started to walk out. He walked down the length of the place, in the white light, not hurrying and not noticing any of us. Nobody moved to stop him. Gerald Starnes cried suddenly after him, ‘How?’ He turned and answered, ‘I will stop the motor of the world.’ Then he walked out.”

Paraphrasing, it’s the line from Hank Rearden talking about the enemy, he says ‘Ican’t believe the enormity of how small they are’.

Editors are the looters and moochers of the publishing industry. Ayn Rand would have nothing to do with them. :-)

If you look at everyone's favorite quotes, they all seem to be the philosophical ones rather than anything dealing with plot, character development or description of the scenery. If the novel didn't have the phillosophy, or even worse was a pro-statist novel, I probably would have put it down forever about 20% of the way through. Just imagine a thousand pages of Al Gore Shrugged with the country going through enviromental disasters because all the leftists are going on strike.
