Remember, the "Greatest Generation" gave us a big dose of welfare state socialism--the Fair Deal, the New Frontier, the Great Society, and Dewey/Eisenhower/Rockefeller/Nixon's "Modern Republicanism," whose adherents are today known as RINO's. Perhaps they should be known as the Statist Generation.
They were spoiled. Same effect it has on children. It renders them into angry, useless brats.
what was the world like for “Boomers” coming of age?
polio...we were saved by a vaccine we got as kids...but it didn’t help my neighbor in the iron lung. she got it years before the vaccine.
air raid siren tests. those were fun. 3rd Friday of the month. 11:00 am. at school, you get under your desk. and ponder nuclear war and death. wonderful developmental tool.
Communists....with a mission to take over the world. At home, politics dominated by terror. War everywhere it seems. Missile gap. Fear.
and then,
Vietnam.
So explain to me, if the Boomers messed everything up, why is it that it seems so much better now.
Most of the answers you seek are found in David Horowitz's excellent book "Destructive Generation." Unprecedented affluence, the civil rights struggle and a cadre of American Communist Red Diaper babies combined to turn American ideals and traditions on their head.
Actually, if you look at the timing, the so-called greatest generation put in most of the programs that became our downfall. The welfare state expansions of the 60s were in place before Boomers could vote, by and large. And of course the Boomers were not responsible for FDR-era Big Government programs.
I think the decline in America happened when no fault divorce was invented and then when mothers started working outside of the home. Working parents felt guilty about not being home, so they showered their kids with cars, electronic gadgets, technology, etc to alieve that guilt...
I think you blame boomers for much that was done while they were too young to do much of anything.I was 12 yo when Roevs Wade was passed....not a lot of influence I had at that age. I was 4yo when LBJ created the great society again not a lot I could do about it all...
Boomers? Their parents spoiled them rotten. It was the old “I’m going to give my kids everthing that I missed in life.”
Many Boomers were given everything and earned nothing. They “discovered” everything and learned nothing.
Unforutnately, I see a fair bit of this sense of entitlement and wilful ignorance in the latest batch coming up.
Satan is behind the evil in the world, not the boomers.
