How can this happen in 2011? I was just talking with him 3 weeks ago about possibly going bass fishing with him in Mexico this Spring.
Seems he checked into the hospital about a week ago complaining of respiratory troubles after contracting the flu. They released him shortly after. He posted on his Facebook page at that time about how it sucks being sick, and how good it would be just to walk 20 feet without gasping for breath.
2 days later, hie son and ex-wife found him dead in bed.
I am stunned. He was in good health. No one that age is supposed to die of the flu.
I am so sorry for your loss.
You have my condolences.
Prayers for you and your family.
I'm sorry for your loss.
May the Lord comfort you through the loss of your brother, my FRiend.
Did he have any other medical conditions such as allergies or asthma?
You have my condolences as well. I knew a woman who died of pneumonia after getting a cold in three months. Sad how quickly it can strike and take a person.
Your loss is a terrible tragedy. Our healthcare system has been wrecked by lawyers and politicians.
Prayers
I am sorry and prayers for you and your family.
I’m sorry I don’t know the answer.
Prayers sent. Godspeed.
This winter’s flu is way worse than previous years.
I got vaccinated against the flu and I still caught it for 3-4 days.
Sorry to read of your loss. What a lot of people don’t know is that during the pandemic (flu) of 1918 the highest mortality was for those between twenty and forty. In other words the healthiest people were most at risk and they often died very quickly.
So sorry for your loss.
It sounds like he could have had an underlying heart condition.
There's no sense in trying to figure out God's plans for us, only take comfort in that you will get to see your brother again one glorious day.
I think your message was intended for Big Black Dog.
Unfortunately, the flu can exacerbate underlying conditions especially with the heart.
It obvious from your post your still in shock and looking for answers. Sometimes there aren’t....Prayer will help......
I’m sorry for your loss...
That’s not the first time I’ve dome that. The info needs to get out to more people. The local health dept. wanted a pandemic plan from the fire depart. I was sitting there thinking it was a death sentence for the most physically qualified.
The last time I had a flu shot was 40 years ago when the Army made me take it. I promptly came down with the flu right afterwards. Haven’t had a flu shot since and haven’t had the flu either.
PRAYER PING FOR LOSS OF
BIG BLACK DOG’S brother to flu at age 49.
May God be the God of all Comfort in His most impactful and intimate ways, BBD.
Sigh.
AAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHH!
CUE that painting THE SCREAM.
I am so very sorry for yours and your family’s loss. Our prayers and most sincere condolences.
Time will heal most of the feelings of grief, however the memories will always be with you.
It does happen, deeply sorry.
Sorry to hear about your loss.
A medical answer to your question should require some testing.
May God rest his soul FRiend, and bring comfort to yours.
God bless.
Tatt
Godspeed.
So very sorry for your loss.
Oh good Lord!!!
I am so sorry.
I’m sorry for your loss. My prayers are going up for your entire family and all those who knew and loved him.
I don’t think its the flu... It must be something more than that, time to see if the doctor who checked him out took any blood sample. I believe it is more than a flu.
I am so sorry. What a shock it must be to all of you who love him.
I want you to research something. There is a very rare drug intolerance for Ibuprofen (Advil) that can develop suddenly or over time. I experienced this and it nearly killed me.
It is called aphylaxis. If your body starts rejecting Ibuprofen (for example), and you keep taking it as though nothing is wrong, it can kill you by shutting down your lungs and heart.
What makes me suspicious are these facts: 1) it was sudden and unexpected; 2) the breathing was already unusually laborious; and 3) the flu often has aches that send people running for the Advil.
Please check into this. Many doctors don’t even know about it. My intolerance for Ibuprofen didn’t set in until I had used it for 17 years!
I’m so sorry for your loss. It does happen and sometimes much slower. I contracted the flu approximately 10 years ago. My immune system began attacking my lungs. After several diagnoses of pheumonia over just a couple of months, they accidentally caught a glimpse of the bottom of my lungs in a CTscan while testing for something else. They were all scarred up. Thank God for steroids, that is what is keeping me alive today. BTW, I’m only 48 now.
My prayers are up for all of your family and you.
LLS
Very sorry for your loss.
Clearly if he could not walk 20 feet something was going on, but it could be a number of possibilities.
My sympathies to your family
I am so sorry to hear of your loss.
I am very deeply sorry for your loss. Please accept my prayers for you and for your family.
Condolences to thread owner.
I get the Flu shot and maintain a stockpile of antibiotics for just this reason. With work, travel and the ‘approved doctor’ scheduling requirements it’s much more time efficient and economical to maintain antibiotics and begin a 7-day regimen when symptoms deteriorate. I avoid the risks of the additional time, costs and mis-diagnosis liability of the traditional treatment path. The last time I did the traditional route for flu/pnemonia I was mis-diagnosed twice, out over a thousand dollars and sick for 2 months. Never again.
Right, I heard that was because the 1918 flu set off an out-of-control immune response. The people with the strongest immune systems got sicker because their immune systems were at war with their own bodies.
To blig black dog, I am so sorry for your shocking loss.
My brother is my best friend, so I am so sorry for your loss. I hope that you have wonderful memories of your times together.
It is not easy to lose a friend, especially a brother. May God comfort you in knowing his soul is in good care. As we grow we lose the most precious to our creator.
That is so young. God bless you and your family at this difficult time.
My boss caught this and it wrecked him for a week. Coughing up pink foam and a 103.9 fever. Couldnt even walk to the bathroom.
The flu isnt a laughing matter.I am sorry for your loss.
How do you get your antibiotics?
People do die of the flu in this day and age more often then you think. If you are having trouble breathing you should see your doctor and don't leave until you have a solution to your problem.
I have a lot of confidence in pneumonia vaccinations (lasting 5 years) instead of the flu shot.
I'm very sorry to read about your loss.
