American idol: India preps for Sarah Palin (No liberal bias at Politico!)
The Politico ^ | March 6, 2011 | Kasie Hunt

Sarah Palin’s trip to India this month might seem out of the blue, but it’s one piece of a much larger trend: The world’s largest democracy goes gaga for American politics.

Most Americans couldn’t even name the Indian prime minister, but the press in India covers minute details of the American political scene.

Its top news magazine devoted an entire issue to President Barack Obama’s November state visit to India. One major newspaper headlined a story, “Tea Party time in the US,” about the 2010 midterm elections. The main New Delhi TV station ran a piece on Palin’s use of the phrase “blood libel” after the January shootings in Tucson, Ariz., and covered her daughter Bristol’s engagement to Levi Johnston.

“The U.S. figures in the Indian imagination and psyche in a very different manner to every other foreign country, and that’s why there’s a fascination with American politicians,” said Harsh Bhasin, a former Indian consul general in New York who’s now a professor at SUNY Stony Brook.

Diplomatic affairs — particularly America’s relationship with Pakistan, India’s regional rival — drive some of the focus and make Secretary of State Hillary Clinton a closely watched figure. But the interest is near-fanatical for the handful of Indian-American politicians who’ve succeeded at the highest levels of U.S. politics — particularly Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and newly elected South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, both Republicans.....

The speakers, after all, are chosen “for their expertise, international standing and practical experience of the subject. They bring content-rich, thoughtful, incisive and solution-driven understanding of Indian, Asian and global issues.”

And even if the American media makes the unlikely decision to ignore her speech there, it will be covered in the Indian press. Obsessively.

Of course the LSM will try to ignore this unless they can manufacture a negative story about Sarah. After all the last speaker was their hero, Slick Willy.

And, this trip won’t cost the US Taxpayers 2 billion dollars. Chances are, it will actually be productive, too.

The Indian press, being better educated and smarter than our presstitutes (not a very high bar, of course) know that she has a better than 50/50 chance of being the next president and want to know more about her.

Notice that India did not extend the keynote speaking invitation to Myth, Huck, Newtie, Daniels, et al. Nope, India wanted only the very best so they invited Sarah.

Good choice, India. Very good choice.

Any objective person, would know that Sarah Palin, whether she becomes the next president or not, has a very large voice in American political discourse today. There are significant numbers of Americans who pay attention to what she has to say.

The left, and some so called republican activists including some who dwell on this forum, would like to relegate her to the fringe and the kooky. That is for their own vested political agenda.

The Indians are interested in what she has to say. They are also probably curious about this mother of five and dedicated wife, who has fishing business and generates a lot of interest from ordinary americans. She is not your usual leading american politician. No Ivy league credentials, no famous pedigree, does not come from old money or staggering wealth. She is very self-made.

Of course, "most Americans couldn't even name the Prime Minister of India."

All we get from our "crack American Press" (off sarc/) are stories on what Charlie Sheen is saying or the latest on Lady(?) Gaga - 24/7!!!

It would be a good idea for Palin to signal that she will build up an allies-based foreign policy when in the WH. I hope she visits Israel, Colombia, Taiwan and other linchpins out there on the edge and under the gun. South Korea too. That relationship is almost shot.

It would be a good idea for Palin to signal that she will build up an allies-based foreign policy .....

She could do a lot ...... d'ya think blood pressures would go up in Peking if she showed up in Taipei, gladhanding the Gearwheel Chinese and telling them how much we appreciate their trade?

Taiwan is the source of one hell of a lot of our daily intake of computer chips of various kinds -- lots of CPU's.

It would be nice if she dropped by Seoul to cheer up the ROK's, too. That would be noticed in lots of places.
