I just heard Fox news say he tripped and fell, taken to the hospital as a precaution. Nothing said about him being in grave condition.

DETAILS

Yankees legend Yogi Berra was taken to the hospital for precautionary reasons Thursday before the Yankees were set to play the Phillies at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Fla.

Yogi Berra talks with infielder Robinson Cano Sunday in Kissimmee, Fla. General manager Brian Cashman and manager Joe Girardi played down the incident which, according to Cashman, resulted from a fall when Berra caught his sneaker on some carpet and fell.

According to Erik Boland of Newsday, Girardi said Berra was smiling and joking after the fall, during which Cashman said he didn't hit his head. The Associated Press reported he fell on his backside. Cashman said he didn't want to go to the hospital.

Berra, 85, serves as an instructor for the Yankees during spring training. The Hall of Fame catcher, who played for the Yankees for 18 seasons and has had two stints as their manager, has a record 10 World Series rings as a player.

You should attend people’s funerals, so they’ll attend yours.

Don’t worry, Yogi, there won’t be an empty seat or dry eye. Even if you are a Yankee.

If I remember right, he drove a landing craft during the D-Day invasion.

This generation is slipping away all too quickly.

LEGENDARY YOGI BERRA IN GRAVE CONDITION

Did they bring in a neurologist because his speech was confused and at times illogical? :-)

Get well soon, Yogi.

If baseball ever did a popularity contest, Yogi would have to be left off the ballot in fairness to everyone else. Otherwise, he'd win by such a large margin that people would ask why they even bothered to send out the ballots.

Yogi is a true american hero. He was at D-Day driving a boat to the beaches.

I live in the bronx, and he is another true italian-american hero that many of us hold dear.

From “Baseball Almanac” a MUST site for any REAL baseball fan:

My favorite Yogi Berra quote:

“The towels were so thick there I could hardly close my suitcase.”

It's a GREAT site for A-Z baseball past and present. If you have a favorite team, you can get players, rosters and box scores from past years at the click of a mouse.
