Skip to comments.“Newsweek” Attempts to Rebrand Gun Control Scheme as “Gun Safety” Cause: Tina Brown Gets Cute,

Tina Brown, the newly-minted British ex-patriot Newsweek editor-in-chief, certainly isnt waisting any time promoting her agenda. By now its pretty old news that the anti-gun/anti-Second Amendment crowd (i.e. the political left) has been trying to use the Tucson active shooter situation to get new gun control laws passed, like a high-capacity magazine (not clip) ban and a new federal assault weapons ban (AWB). Its par for the course, really, and to be expected. However, Newsweek just did something sneaky. In a call-to-arms (excuse the pun)-style pro-gun-control opinion piece, two of its writers, Andrew Romano and Pat Wingert, attempted to rebrand gun control as gun safety in their not-so-subtly (or pleasantly) titled article 2,405 Shot Dead Since Tucson. Here are the relevant excerpts, all from the Newsweek piece:
- By outspending, out-organizing, and out-politicking its opponents, the NRA persuaded Democrats, who can control Congress only if they control red districts, to abandon gun safety in the 1980s and 1990s, and since then it has successfully pressed for ever-looser local laws.
- Few politicians are eager to paddle against such a powerful tide, which is why so many of them called for a new era of civility after one of their colleagues was shot in the headas opposed to, say, a new era of gun safety.
- Its hard not to wonder whether Obamas plan is to pacify liberal critics by continuing to mention some vague dream of addressing gun safety at some wispy future datethen to cross his fingers and hope they forget.
- Gun-safety advocates would argue that Obama has a moral duty to stanch the bleeding, and that may be true.

I say BS!
Nobody cared about Newsweek before and they will care even less now that Tina’s in charge.
Gun control - Hitting where you aim.
Gun safety -
Treat every gun as if it is loaded.
Keep your finger off the trigger until you intend to shoot.
Don’t point your gun at anything you do not intend to destroy.
What’s so hard about that?
BTW and FWIW, the word is "expatriate" not "ex-patriot". The author shouldn't rely on spell check for everything.
It’s only gun safety for the criminals.
It gets better, “ex-patriot” instead of “expatriate.”
I’ve seen a lot of instances where people think the proper term is actually “ex-patriot” and don’t even know “expatriate” exists. It’s strange to them when I say “he’s an expatriate, but still a patriot.”

Well okay, maybe the inner city democrat controlled cesspools could have this rate, sure but that would exceed out war deaths by a long shot in any comparable period of time, so it must be a quagmire!
We need to pull out of the major metro areas.
Gun Safety — Liberal stay away and never speak of guns again.
“2,405 Shot Dead Since Tucson
I say BS”
Absolutely a lie!!!
Bill Clinton tried the same thing during his administration.
Gun Control: Stance, grip, sight picture, breath control, trigger pull, follow-through.
Gun-safety advocates would argue that Obama has a moral duty to stanch the bleeding, and that may be true.
And I say Obama has a 'moral duty' to RESIGN immediately. As it's apparent by his actions that he really wants to be a GOLFER!!!
Spelled expatriate wrong, too.
EPA will pick it up as a health threat
Possibly not. We run about 30K gun deaths per year - a bit over 2K per month.
Most of them suicides. Many of the rest are scum killing scum with no net loss to society. The remaining ones ARE tragedies.
Almost NONE of them are accidents; some “accidents” are suicide being covered up for insurance reasons. When you get right down to it, guns are pretty safe.
If they were really for “gun safety” they would have gun safety and marksmanship classes in school...
