Why Do Some Conservatives Still Assume Obama and the Left Are Acting in Good Faith?
David Horowitz's NewsReal Blog ^ | Matthew Vadum

Posted on 03/16/2011 2:54:18 PM PDT by Michael van der Galien

Why is it so difficult for some conservatives to accept the idea that the left is hellbent on destroying America as we know it? It’s not like it’s a far-out conspiracy theory. It’s a well documented ongoing process. These people have been at it for decades. The Cloward-Piven Strategy, which is one piece of the subversive puzzle, is real. We’ve proven it here at NewsReal and I’ve proven it in my upcoming book Subversion Inc. Since the culturally catastrophic 1960s elements within the left have been more or less open about their movement’s desire to overthrow the American system of government and capitalism it’s not a secret. Read a Noam Chomsky book –if you can do so without throwing up– and feel the anti-American venom leap right off the page and splash you in the face.

Yet Bill O’Reilly and the more libertarian John Stossel don’t think that malice lurks in the hearts of American leftists. Courtesy of my favorite clipping service, Media Matters for America (their motto might as well be “We clip everything cool that conservatives say on TV and radio.”), here’s a discussion O’Reilly and Stossel had on Fox News last night:

In the clip above O’Reilly bashes conservative talk radio for accusing the left of malice and Stossel just shrugs and says leftists just like spending other people’s money too much. Move on: Nothing to see here, folks. Why the assumption of good faith? Are they afraid to call out people who hate America because it might be impolite? Is it Polite Company Conservative syndrome? (See a great piece by the coiner of the phrase Tunku Varadarajan.)

A more egregious offender is Michael Medved who stridently denounces his fellow conservatives for questioning the intentions of leftists.

Preposterous.

I view Liberals the same way I view Jihadist Muslims and drug cartels.

The enemy.

Maybe their mother’s taught them to try to see the good in people.

PS - Bill O’Reilly is NOT a conservative.

'Cause if they get too strident, they'll lose their cushy TV jobs.

Television is a "cool" medium, remember? Brutal honesty doesn't work well on TV. Of course, another factor is that, when people sit down to watch TV, they want to escape reality. Projecting reality on TV, especially about people who want to kill you, your family, your way of life, and your country, is just too upsetting.

It’s a form of denial. Also it’s easier to attribute to incompetance what is probably in truth completely deliberate.

Will John Boehner ever figure this out? He seems hellbent on compromising and enabling more legislative trickery by his Dem pals.

OReilly is merely a sellout. Medved is a passable movie critic. That's about it.

Excellent question. Note to everyone: They aren’t. Period. Obama is a Muslim; of that I am convinced and a stinking liar to boot. End of story.

Good post. People want TV to take them to a ‘happy place’. It’s like junk food for the mind. Any unpleasantness that intrudes into the family room will be met with a swift click on the remote.

Why is it so hard for these simple minded conservatives to realize that Obama is a hard core communists trained Muslim. He, with the help of the communists party (formally the Democratic Party) have destroyed much of America and many never recover.

You have to have some kind of filter. When you automatically assume that all the things you want to believe about people on the other side of a controversy are true, you start to part company with reality.

You have to sift through those things you want to believe to see which are supported by evidence and which aren't -- what's really likely to be true and what isn't. Some of the things one dreams up certainly may be true. Others not so much.

Aw, shouldn't ya' just find out who's going to be on the next Dancing with the Stars, and which Idol contestant sneezed yesterday?

Sarc/off

Seriously, do you think anyone who is going to ask the tough questions is going to be allowed on TV?

I disagree, I see it here on FR all the time. Mostly in religious comments about things 0 is doing. The “Christian” attitude and turn the other cheek stuff. They really need to wake up.

I would never accuse O’Reilly of being conservative or acting in good faith.

As for Medved, I haven’t paid much attention to him since I heard him say “films are nourishing”. Don’t wanna listen to anyone who might make be barf at any moment.

I’ve met a few liberals who were ‘in the know’ - but for the most part they’re clueless. Which is kind of comforting for me. In a real crunch - some of them would flip to our side.

why would anybody think that Republicans (socialists) are acting in good faith? You know the liberal hates American and is against you. The Republican (socialist) will say he is with you, then back stab you and implement the Democrats (communists) policies. Who are you more foolish believing?

“Why Do Some Conservatives ...”

“Yet Bill O’Reilly and the more libertarian John Stossel...’

It would be nice if Horowitz actually mentioned some conservatives in his article. I like the guy, but you think, having been a leftist, he would realize that O’Reilly is a moderate liberal and Stossel a socially liberal libertarian, neither of which qualifies one as being a conservative.

I love it yesterday when Levin referred to bill o'reilly, AKA: 'The leprechaun' as "the FOX 8:00 o'clock guy". Mark was talking about how O'Reilly is such a kiss-up to Obama in hopes of getting more appearances on his show where he can kiss Obama's ass some more and generate more money for himself. But I guess those two Irish guys Obama and O'reilly stick together.
