These are just a few examples to get us started:

The Harlem Globetrotters was the brainchild of promoter-coach Abe Saperstein in the mid- to late-1920s. He thought the name gave them the right amount of appeal, mystique and prestige despite the fact, or perhaps, because of the fact, that he and his original players all came from, Chicago, not New York. And their headquarters was in Chicago too.

Teens who own dogs get more physical exercise than teens who don't.

If you have a bottle or jar top that won't unscrew, just run it under the hot water faucet for a few minutes. The heat will usually make the top expand faster than the jar or bottle, and you'll usually be able to unscrew it without using an adjustable pliers or other opener.

Teddy bears were first made by Morris Michtom, who was inspired by a 1902 cartoon depicting President Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt refusing to shoot a tired old bear that had been trapped and tied up for him because it would have been un-sportsmanlike. It was based on an actual hunting trip incident.

Coffee helps you wake up and keep you up because of how the caffeine in it affects your blood sugar level. But if you don't have a little fruit juice first, you may not have enough blood sugar in the first place, and it isn't anywhere near as effective as if you did.

John "Johnny Appleseed" Chapman, did not, as many people believe, plant apple trees by tossing seeds hither and yon. He was a philanthropic missionary and businessman who actually started nurseries where sapling apple trees were nurtured until they could be sold to people who wanted to grow their own.

John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, 2nd and 3rd Presidents respectively, (also 1st and 2nd Vice Presidents respectively) both died on July 4, 1826 -- exactly 50 years to the day after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Although they belonged to opposing parties, they remained fast friends who corresponded regularly until their simultaneous deaths.

23% of the Federal Budget now goes toward interest on the national debt. As the debt continues to explode, so does the percentage that goes toward interest. And Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security now make up almost half the Federal Budget. And the new health care bureaucracies, not yet in place, are estimated to cost a trillion dollars a year more.

Meteor crater, near Winslow Arizona, was for years believed to be a remnant of a volcano. Daniel Barringer, a mining engineer and businessman, thought otherwise. He believed the crater was caused by an the impact of an iron meteorite with the Earth. In the early 1900s, he purchased the crater and its surrounding land, with the hopes of becoming rich by finding and selling the iron meteor he believe would be there.

Many scientists scoffed at him since the prevailing science claimed his purchase was nothing more that an obsolete lava hole. In 1960 Eugene M. Shoemaker confirmed the crater was formed in fact the result of a collision of the Earth and a meteor, restoring the reputation of Barringer. By then Barringer had long been dead and bankrupt. Even though he was right, the meteorite that Barringer just knew would be in the ground had vaporized upon impact. There was virtually no iron in the area.

But no, I intend to post them without any purpose of making money off them.

Thanks for the reply. You have permission to use my items should you in fact chose to publish them in a "for profit" venue.

What disease has killed more people than any other; and has killed more people than all wars in human history combined?

Who “cured” this disease?

“A handful of sand contains about 10,000 grains; more than the total number of stars we can see with the naked eye on a clear night... but the total number of stars in the Universe is larger than all the grains of sand on all the beaches on planet Earth.” —Carl Sagan

About 5,000 times as many in fact.

What was the first #1 hit song that Neil Diamond wrote?

This 1970s actor appeared in only five movies in his lifetime, and all five were nominated for Oscars. Three of the five won Oscars. He had significant (although not necessarily leading) roles in all five. Who was he?

You all are good! Both correct!

Here’s a hard one. In 1977, a terrorist group set off a bomb that neither killed nor injured anyone. However, the event had unintended consequences (completely unforeseen by the terrorists) that killed almost 600 people. What happened?

A bombing at an airport in the Canary Islands caused no injuries, but a number of planes were diverted to another nearby airport and the overcrowding produced the taxi-way crash that killed nearly everyone aboard two jumbo jets.
