In an effort to get closer to the local population, American female soldiers stationed in Afghanistan are being encouraged to wear a Muslim headscarf when interacting with civilians. But some question whether the practice constitutes cultural sensitivity or a form of appeasement that is degrading to U.S. soldiers.
Major Kyndra Rotunda, executive director of the Military Law and Policy Institute and AMVETS Legal Clinic, told The Daily Caller that while the women are not being ordered to wear the head scarf, encouragement is tantamount to a demand[...]
Retired Col. Martha McSally, whose grievance about being forced to wear the Muslim abaya while stationed in Saudi Arabia in the 1990s resulted in 2002 legislation outlawing the practice of making female soldiers wear Muslim religious garb in Saudi Arabia, told The Daily Caller that the sanctity of the uniform should not be sullied with outside accessories like the hijab.
Another thing that makes this inappropriate is that they are wearing it with their uniform, she said. All the services have several-hundred-page regulations about what is appropriate and is not appropriate to wear with the uniform, and we have very strict guidelines You are representing the United States government. You are wearing the U.S. military uniform, and it confuses what you are representing when you add this to the uniform.[More..]
Forget feckin cultural sensitivity. This is appeasement and degrading but what's worse, that damn headscarf sure as hell ain't gonna stop a snipers bullet.
Winning hearts & minds gone mad.

I don’t see obozzo in one ? WTF
I look at requesting US service women to wear a hijab from a different angle. It says that the US think the Muslims they are around are so primitive and ignorant that they do not comprehend women who are not subservient and treated like furniture.
It says that in their pathetic culture, only men carry guns and are human beings. Women are expendable and unimportant. That is why the US also tolerates an Afghan government that is a throwback to a form of organization that should have died out at least 600 years ago, with a brutal and unfair legal system of Sharia law to keep them that way.
That policy basically says that Afghans are like creatures we keep in our zoos. We expect no modernity, rationality, reason, or common sense from them. They have no future on their own. They cannot compete with other peoples, so are damned to extinction outside of their pens.
As long as they remain in their cage, their lives mean nothing to us, as they seem to mean nothing to them, either. Beasts of the field.
When our women come home, they will do so to respect and honor, as intelligent and brave humans should be treated. The Afghans can go back to worshiping idols made of mud, beating their heads on the floor, and treating all their illnesses with cattle dung, in between killing each other for sport.
Extra ‘7’ I should say.....
And frankly, I think female presence in combat military, on ships and among troops that have always been the province of men, those on the front lines -- and especially on submarines and ships -- women should be out of it. ABSENT. Women already have a job in this thing we call survival -- having and taking care of babies. MEN have the job of protecting us.
I am a woman and I understand wholly that men -- men -- are the sole protectors of women. All the things we have, ladies, all our freedoms and riches, we have, whether we like it or not, because our guys have protected our access to equality in the American way.
Women, please have the kindness to bow out of combat roles in the military, with the possible exception of pilots, as I've heard that women do well there as effective fighters. This isn't a game, it's for real. A mixed crew submarine is going to lose to an all-male crewed enemy. Count on it. This is deliberate sabotage of our armed forces to make them weak. Ladies, we should have the balls, if you'll pardon the expression, to BOW OUT.
This is the place where these savages killed 12 people?? Screw them they need a tactical Nuke dropped on them.
Lolol, that’s funny. I lost much hearing at 30yrs and have never listened to radio.......totally unfamiliar with it all.
I was thinking of circumference...and it wasn’t a happy thought!
Or perhaps they could create all-female special forces, as some women would make terrifying warriors. Segregate by sex -- that's sex, not "gender," which is a grammatical term referring to linguistic origin. In Spanish, a tree is "male," and windshield wipers are "female." That is, literally, their gender.
They don't have a sex. People and most every other creature on the earth -- belong to one of two sexes: male or female.
Substitution of the word "gender" for "sex" is devious.
So if there’s a nudist colony nearby, we have to make the women come over nekkid? Good grief, EVERYONE would be trying to pick a fight with us to see our nekkid women.
WTF has always been WTF.
I started to post something from my heart, but decided better. Had I posted it, I wouldn’t blame the mods for permabanning me.
I hate that the safety of our troops...who have decided to fight these wars voluntarily...are in this man’s hands.
He’s not just the biggest screwup we’ve ever had, he’s still in the voting present mode.
KMA........I like it!
These acronyms are so obvious it makes you wonder if they are dreaming up their little blurbs to ‘fit the acronyms’!!
Yep...you have to wonder about it. Why in the world would they do something that stupid, though? And, it is stupid. It’s been turned around, and has bitten them in the butt...unless one is a true believer in the messiah.
