Our Lady of Lourdes Cathedral Lourdes, France |
1879 funeral procession |
Amazing!
Beautiful .... but not quite incorruptible. The body has been preserved with help from the wax sculptor’s art.
“As part of the canonization process, her body was exhumed three separate times, in 1909, 1919, and finally in 1925, when she was moved to the crystal casket. Her body was pronounced by the church as officially “incorrupt,” but it seems the qualifications for that term may have been somewhat lax. In the words of the attending doctor in 1919: “The body is practically mummified, covered with patches of mildew and quite a notable layer of salts, which appear to be calcium salts... The skin has disappeared in some places, but it is still present on most parts of the body.”
“After a few ribs were removed to be sent to Rome as relics, it was decided that the “blackish color” of her face might be off-putting to pilgrims, and so a “light wax mask” was in order. Her new face and hands were designed by Pierre Imans, a designer of fashion mannequins in Paris.”

Having been raised a Roman Catholic, I am familiar with the stories of “saint’s relics” that turned out to be false. Some of them were honest mistakes, and some of them were outright frauds, designed to fleece gullible pilgrims. It’s wonderful that Bernadette’s body is still intact, for the most part. But it is not incorruptible.
I need to hear a second (medical) opinion.
This is scientifically impossible.
Thanks for the worst case scenario, Worst Case Scenario lol
Seriously, I researched this extensively and found opinion all over the road, anything from to full on miracle to completely painted up, so believe what you choose to I guess
But there’s been hundreds of others so preserved throughout history... well documented
Just WOW!
So is the existence of almighty and omnipotent God outside of the material world and the laws of physics scientifically impossible. But He is!
Dammit! I was hoping that this would finally be the evidence I was looking for.
Back to being an agnostic. Somebody please shoot me...please!
So, this just means that you don’t believe in St. Bernadette. St. Bernadette isn’t Yahweh or Yeshua. What do you think of Yeshua (Jesus)?
I only have a pepper spray mace cannister. Is that okay for the shooting?
There is apparently no evidence anywhere and it pisses me off.
Why is that so hard for you to understand?
I am now 99.99999% certain that God doesn’t exist.
The only incorruptible body we will have will be when this earth passes away and God has established His kingdom forever. What a kingdom it will be when every day our heavenly Father comes to us with love and reveals some now wonder of his being!
The evidence is EVERYWHERE!
So, you think the BIG BANG just happened like a print shop exploding and the letters settling down into books, the Bible included, by themselves?
We have to “feel after His face” in the hopes of finding Him; although He is not far from any one of us - for in Him we LIVE and MOVE and HAVE OUR VERY BEING.
Have some compassion on the Creator; if He wasn’t created but just IS and has always existed eternally, then perhaps He just IS what He IS. (”I AM THAT I AM.”)
We’re all in it together. Buck up. From all the signs of the times, the Revelation of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Son of Man, His return and the Restoration of all things, is upon us. I’ll take His Government over this crappy Man’s Government any time.
Or is it because you are a scientist, and you don't really want to believe it so you put it aside and say it isn't true?
Read this -- there are many incorrupt bodies. It's not just St. Bernadette.
BTW, if you were baptized and rasised as a Catholic, you are still (and always will be) a Catholic. You are just an inactive Catholic it seems. We invite you back to the church. Find a priest you can talk with and get your questions answered. Being Catholic: Sacred Things, Relics and the Incorruptibles
Faith doesn’t require miracles. I can believe in Bernadette’s saintliness without having to believe that he body is incorruptible. If she *does* actually chide me in the afterlife, hopefully we will all have a good chuckle at my doubts.
I understand why such beliefs are important to some of the faithful. If it strengthens you to believe in these cases, blessings upon you.
You say that faith does not require miracles. I think it does. How else could you believe in the Resurrection of Christ after his crucificion?
People all agog over this have no business calling other people’s religions weird IMHO.
