Carnivores, brace yourself for even steeper food price hikes this year than originally forecast. The unholy trinity of rising feed prices, spiking oil costs it takes money to transport food from farm to table and increased global demand has pushed the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ratchet up some of its 2011 food price forecasts, with beef and pork prices getting the most costly upward revisions.
Heres how you might want to rethink your food intake/grocery shopping to deal with the expected price increases:
Stick with chicken. At the start of the year, the USDA said it expected beef prices would rise 4.5 percent to 5.5 percent this year. The new forecast is for a price jump of 7 percent to 8 percent. And its not like you havent already been paying up, as beef prices are already 12.2 percent higher than they were a year ago. If youve got a yen for pork, thats going to cost you more as well. The USDA has changed its 2011 forecast of a 6 percent price hike for pork to a new expected range of 6.5 percent to 7 percent. Over the past 12 months, pork prices have already increased 11.2 percent.
In news that the chicken lobby is no doubt already plotting an ad campaign around, though, the price hike for chicken remains quite benign: the 2011 forecast stays unchanged at 2.5 to 3.5 percent. If going with chicken doesnt appeal, it may be time to load up the garage freezer with beef and pork; at least you can lock in todays prices for at least a few months.
Steam, rather than sauté or fry: The USDA also raised its estimate for inflation for fats and oils by a full percentage point to 6 percent to 7 percent....

Food is the next gold. Pretty soon we’ll be hearing Gordon Liddy saying “Now that’s the sound of food!”.
Obama’s fault.
And fish are running now.
And fish are running now.
You are right about this being out of Moochele's master plan. They even talked about steaming you chicken instead of frying. WTF. They can cram it. I am surprised this lib hack didn't bring up dumpster diving to cut down on waste to the land fill.
I, for one, shall stop eating just to prove a point. ;-)
vote out all democrats and any rinos.

"Alferd Packer, you voracious, man-eating, son-of-a-bitch. There were seven Democrats in Hinsdale County, and you ate five of them." ..... Allegedly said by District Court Judge Melville upon sentencing
But there’s no inflation... if you don’t count food and energy... and anything else you may buy...
“What You Can Do”?
Bring fuel cost down! Allow oil companies to build newer refineries. Cleaner more modern. But the leftist aka progressive treehuggers will not allow this.
Eat Less and exercise. Works every time. Especially when you have to catch your food.
Prayers for a good year and good harvest.
I will be spending less than $20/wk for groceries in less than a month.

I like chicken. I like turkey. I am raising both right now. Buying a milk cow and a bull calf this summer. Butcher that calf in about 18 months. In the meantime a friend going through a divorce is giving us an upright freezer for free so I might as well put a quarter beef and half pig from the butcher shop into it. It’ll set us back a bit in the short term but if these prices continue higher....it will be well worth it.
Best wishes.

Ditto.
We were never stuck on chicken. Chicken lay our eggs anyway. Why eat them?
We are being indoctrinated about inappropriate food. Since political correctness was such a success for the Liberals believe they can restrict freedom diet with out passing a single law.
I already announced months ago to the fam that we’d be eating a lot more chicken and pork.
The beef is getting really “bounce-y” anyway, and I am talking Costco beef, which is supposed to be decent quality. Old recipes (swiss steak, roast beef, beef stroganoff) are not making the meat very tender anymore. It’s just plain tough.
Also, I don’t pre-plan what veg to serve with dinner. I wait until I get to the store and get what is on sale. For example we had broccoli (79 cents a pound) instead of zuchini (2.99 a pound!) tonight.
Like every other Banana Republic.......rice and beans con pollo for the lowly Proles. Telling that the Ministry of Truth gave the story the Regime’s official stamp of approval.
The refineries are not running at capacity now.
Gee..wonder what our obomba voting “friends” say NOW...I told them in Nov 2008 that I was stocking up, and I’m sure they thought I was crazy....not speaking anymore...I think they are now mad and don’t want to admit their idiocy (they are retired.)
Lessee....
I have five different kinds of potatoes coming up right now.
I planted broccoli, 2 kinds of cabbage, 2 kinds of cauliflower and a bunch of herbs today.
In the coming week I hope to get peppers, tomatoes and some melons in, and when the weather really warms, all of my summer squash. My radishes, carrots, peas, onions, spinach, collards and mustard greens are all up and thriving.
In the meantime we continue to average 5 eggs a day so far this month with a total approaching 600 eggs so far this year...
Lots one can do...
I’m pretty lucky at drawing elk hunts, and I hear Governor Martinez is going to make sure more draws go to in state applicants, so maybe my freezer will be stuffed with elk. Some cat fish, tuna fish and chicken can augment that. I just pray that people can hold out until we get the austerity facilitators are out of office.
I’m thinking of getting a couple of rabbits...tastes like chicken...takes less space, doesn’t violate neighborhood “rules”....like those will matter soon.
You are lucky, Spring has barely started here and it is still snowing.
We have two full freezers and a friend of mine is gifting us 2 calves from his dairy......we are blessed and even thought this indiana boy is stuck in the desert, we always manage.
I’ve got a couple of squirrel condos in my cherry trees out back...a squirrel is only good for about 400 calories, but one sure makes a pot of beans or rice taste mighty fine....
EWWW....squirrels....we don’t have any running through our yard.....just the neighbors cats.....if we got REALLY desperate....hhmmmm...
Our state Game and Fish commission voted to raise the whitetail deer limit from 5 to 6 for the next season (beginning in September). If food prices continue their current trend, I can see myself being somewhat less selective in the deer I choose to harvest while hunting...
There’s a joke in “Stranger in a Strange Land” where Jubal says that many things seem to be instinct are not, but he’s glad they are thought to be. He says he’s glad most people think it’s against human instinct to eat other humans, or else he couldn’t trust some of his neighbors given the price of chuck.
Bob-O-Que!
Every time fuel prices and food prices tick higher, this nation is made a tick less stabile. To me - higher prices (caused by government policies, which is 99% of the current problem) is an act of treason.
Libs never take responsibility for their disasters.
What is the name of the Asian stew using dog meat?
go on that diet you've been putting off for decades.
Have....No...Idea
Square foot gardening and Aquaponics for every home and apartment. It’s not hard unless you’re dependent or addicted to the government handouts.
I hunt so I have a walking pantry..Deer, Elk, wild turkey, grouse, pheasants, and so on.
Went grocery shopping earlier today, the chicken was among the more expensive meats!
If meat prices keep going up like they have been, I might have to talk to mom and dad about the possibility of raising rabbits.
(And before anyone gives me the vegan lecture, I am missing several enzymes needed to digest plant-based proteins. This means I am biologically a carnivore, and I have the lab tests to prove it.)
We are looking at adding chickens too, I guess the greenes might win, we will have chickens and beef cattle.............LMAO!
we got three inches of snow this morning...*sigh*
I’m pretty good with the tuna...100 cans or so....some canned beef from Costco and a few cans of Dak type ham....but my husband also hunts and even though its NOT cost effective, its his love and hopefully he’ll get a nice, big elk this year....
Stay on the outside edge of the grocery store....first go see what is on sale in the meat/fish dept. Try halving some of meat/fish in your recipes...it taste the same and is just as filling, and then you can re-freeze the other half for another meal. Do not over look the frozen meal dept, they often mark down the frozen meals for cheaper than you can make yourself. Stock up on good strong staples such as rice, beans, noodles, canned soup, tuna on sale etc... for recipes. For short term meals for one week, buy fresh fruits and veggies that are marked down. For longer term veggies, buy extra cans of whatever is on sale that you like. There are at least 1 million low cost meal recipes you can get online. Get creative in the kitchen and have fun with it.
Heeeeeerrrrre Kitty Kitty.

For about 3 months last year, squirel was the main dish around here. You can bet that I thanked the Lord for that food. Most food preferences are cultural. Very nearly ALL food avoidances are.
I consider 'food' to be anything that a sizeable percentage of the population of the earth eats, or has eaten in the last 3000 years, as a regular or staple food item.
Squirrel is still eaten by a significant portion of the US population today. Much more so, less than 100 years ago.

I just want to know how is the hope and change thing working out for everyone?
Walmart has end caps filled with Spam
Stacks of Beans and Rice
But everyone wanted hope and change
I have no hope and want my change that wont even buy me a cup of coffee at this point.
I’m already spending less than $20.00 a week just to save money and that’s without a garden. Believe me it’s more than a stretch but I’m doing this to stock up otherwise.
Now about that raised deck garden in this article....can’t one just line an area with brick and plastic and accomplish the same thing? I’m garden illiterate.
Does anyone know how meat could be stored in freezer without getting that freezer burn on it. I had a few pieces of chicken I stored in the freezer in a Glad storage bag but when I wanted some chicken it smell awful then I notice some freezer burn on the meat and when I cooked it. It tasted terrible instead of tasting the meat I could taste the burnt. Any suggestions?
