In a surprise move, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer bowed to pressure from the MSM and other "Progressives" and vetoed a bill passed by overwhelming majorities in the legislature.
The bill would have restored commonsense regulation to out of control gun banning by local and state governments. At present, a local government agency can prevent law abiding citizens from carrying a gun into a government facility by posting a sign declaring that carrying a gun there is prohibited. The new law would have required that such signs have actual measures in place to insure that if law abiding citizens are so restricted, that criminals are prevented from carrying guns in the facilities as well.
If a governmental facility wished to stop people from exercising their Constitutional rights in the facility, they would have to have metal detectors at the doors, and armed security to enforce the metal detectors.
The new law would have prevented local anti-freedom politicians from making empty political theater at the expense of citizens Constitutional rights.
They obviously got something on her.
FWIW, that's the reality here in southwest Pennsylvania. Criminals aren't given an advantage over citizens as they are with just a stupid sign posting.
Pennsylvania is second in the nation to Texas for number of armed citizens. We're also home to this year's NRA convention.
I dont know what you people are carping about.
Az has some of the best gun rights in the nation.
I wish Texas allowed open carry
Az is the only place I have ever lived that opens military land to the public for hunting.
Jan Brewer just passed a law to build the fence on the border.
She kicked Obama in the nuts.
Stop bashing her.
People need to see this as a life and death struggle for our future, our families' future, and our country's future. Voters need to x-ray their candidates to see what's in them. A life of unflinching godliness and strong character is a good step in the right direction. (The bad guys want people to think "personal/private matters have nothing to do with running for office.") That of course is self-serving dribble.
I have a feeling there is more to this story than meets the eye. Brewer is no shrinking violet and has traversed a lot of blow back. She knows by now how to put a case together that will stick, and not something flaky that makes AZ a target in more federal crosshairs. Something didn’t quite gel for her to do a full throated veto.
Or else, you’re right, someone is messing with her.
When she does something wrong, we shouldn't mention it? I don't call that bashing.
Seems that way. They got to her.
We’re not bashing her. When she does good, we heap praise on her. When she screws up, we call her on it.
As it should be. Our praise means nothing if we don’t also call her out when she needs it.
Jan Brewer just passed a law to build the fence on the border.
She kicked Obama in the nuts.
Politicians are always passing laws about one thing or another, then never implementing them.
I hope to see her get that fence built and enforce immigration policies along her border.
Maybe Texas will see her do that and follow suit.
I wonder if the AZ House and Senate will get together to override her veto on this gun legislation...
She also just vetoed an overwhelmingly passed bill that would require presidential candidates to prove their constititutional eligibility. http://www.dakotavoice.com/2011/04/az-governor-disappoints-america-vetoes-presidential-eligibility-bill/
I believe that you are correct. I saw an earlier article in which she stated that the legislation was so poorly written that it could put law-abiding concealed carriers at legal risk. I did not read the details of the bill, but if that’s true, then she had her citizens’ best interests at heart.
I had the same reaction of most commenters here when I read only the headline. I imagine that’s what the MSM would like to have happen...
I suspect that the 0bamunists paid her a visit and made her an offer she couldn’t refuse.
...bowing to political correctness or her true RINO colors are beginning to shine through.... =.=
No, not just the bad guys think that.
We don't all subscribe the Fundie thinking. I tongue kissed Mary Sue in the 9th grade (and her sister too!) You think I shouldn't be President. I know it's none of your D... business.
Lots of people are sick of Fundies. Not just the "bad" guys. Some of us want these "laws" and attitudes gone from the marketplace just as bad as the leftist ones, because they are just as responsible for current American destruction.
America, and the people in it, were never the caricatures you dream of. Not at any time period. But you are responsible in part for the dirty hippies. Thanks for that.
But I'm glad that you think "A life of unflinching godliness and strong character is a good step in the right direction"
A mere step, you say!! I will get out my short list of inviolate saints when next electing the county dog catcher.
Hope Jesus isn't too busy, He's going to be wearing a lot of hats.
On another note, Obama or his thugs have gotten to Brewer. You don't change overnight like this, unless someone is holding a gun to you or someone you love. Or she's done things that Fundie tongue waggers would disapprove of - and loves power more than principle.
I carry my gun(s) anywhere I please. Signs be dammed.
If you don’t tell anybody there you have it on you, then how would anyone know....
I’d buy that video
These are my thoughts:
She did something or some things in the past for which she is now being blackmailed.
I can’t imagine someone doing a 180 degree like she has done without the threat of public revelation of past history to things shady.
She was doing great until suddenly KA...WHAM!!!
You Arizonians need to replace her.
I tongue kissed Mary Sue in the 9th grade (and her sister too!)
FYI, couldn't care less. But if at 30 years old, you do the same thing to Mary Sue the 9th grader and you're running for office, then I care about it.
Can you imagine THIS communist administration stooping to such thuggish tactics?!
Yeah, me, too.
