Why so Secretive?

Whose I.Q. is higher Al Gore’s, John Kerry’s, George W. Bush or Barry Hussein Soetoro?

You’d probably be surprised that “W” is not the low man in this grouping. According to sources president Bush may only be surpassed by one name on this list, care to guess who?

If you guessed the former vice-president Al Gore you may be correct, but not so fast. Though Gore had an incredible hyped-up imagine of being smart , imagine isn’t everything. According to his college records he was a below average student. John Kerry whose I.Q. and academic achievements are reported to be less than president Bush's I.Q. and grades Kerry also attempted to project that he was always the smartest person in the room.

So it seems that George W. Bush was just as smart if not smarter than all of the above. (see stories here and here) I can hear your protest now, ‘Well what about president Soetoro, I know he’s smarter than Bush.” To which I ask you on what evidence do you base that speculation?

Learning Greek and Hebrew sounds hard to me.

What makes you think he studied Greek and Hebrew?

I thought 'education' was the easiest..

I would think Divinity school or perhaps Philosophy would be the easiest. It's basically memorization. There's no Calculus, no Physics, no Chemistry, none of the things that require sequential or critical thinking or reasoning.

BTW, this article, which goes into some detail on Gore's transcripts, also mentions that two IQ tests he was given in high school measured his IQ at 133 and 134.

If Gore's IQ is so high, why is he such an idiot? If Gore were so smart he'd realize that a large portion of the population sees right through his charade. If he really believed that the sea levels were going to rise why did he recently purchase beach front property in California? You can wave around Gore's high school IQ tests all you want, but you will never convince me he's smart. BTW, I've been MENSA member since I was 15. So what?

I like NoScript and Ghostery for Firefox as well. Set them up so that everything is blacklisted by default, and then only allow those you absolutely must to use the sites you want to use.

Perhaps he did not get that far, but I brought this up because you claimed that divinity school is incredibly easy. I had the opportunity a few years ago to learn about the curriculum at several different divinity schools and I noticed that some of them require study of Greek and/or Hebrew for the M. Div. degree.

The shallow mind of the electorate (and press) equates smoothness of speech with intelligence.
Someone who occasionally fumbles words (Bush); is then deemed to not be intelligent.
Sad and wrong.
This leads to slickness and packaging being the prime qualities in a candidate.

Obama smart? LOL

The guy pronounces corps as corpse, as in medical corpse. He uses poor grammar, e.g., “President Bush invited Michelle and I...” and he misuses words, e.g., enormity. Oh, and he doesn’t know how to hold a wine glass or keep his feet off an antique desk.

Compared to Electrical Engineering and Aeronautical Engineering, my chosen fields of study, (BSAE ERAU ‘83, MSEE GA Tech ‘87) Divinity school by comparison is a walk in the park. It’s primarily just memorization. No critical or abstract thought. No reasoning. No problem solving. No math. No Chemistry. No Physics. None of the usual things that separate the wheat from the chaff. It’s a fixed target.

If Gore's IQ is so high, why is he such an idiot?

If Gore was a complete idiot he would not be so rich and would not have been able to become a leader of a worldwide movement.

If Gore were so smart he'd realize that a large portion of the population sees right through his charade.

Whether or not AGW is a reality and the magnitude of the possible effect is a question that will have to be settled by science, which hopefully will be able to disentangle itself from politics eventually.

Scientific questions are not settled by taking a vote. That is a mistake that some global-warming proponents are making. The fact that a large portion of the public vote the other way does not make them right either.

If he really believed that the sea levels were going to rise why did he recently purchase beach front property in California?

It's an ocean-view property not beach front property.

You can wave around Gore's high school IQ tests all you want, but you will never convince me he's smart. BTW, I've been MENSA member since I was 15.

So you're saying that you should not be judged as smart based on an IQ test you took in high school?

There's a big difference between "smart" and "deceitful". Gore is deceitful and devious.. If he were smart he wouldn't have to tell so many lies.

Whether or not AGW is a reality and the magnitude of the possible effect is a question that will have to be settled by science, which hopefully will be able to disentangle itself from politics eventually.

It was 36F at my home in Tennessee this morning on MAY 5th! AGM my ass. You can fall for that nonsense if you want. I've been a pilot and a student of the weather for more than 30 years. Forecasters can't tell me with any degree of reliability what the wind and temperature is going to be 72 hours from now. You actually believe forecasters can accurately predict global temperature 50 years from now? The trends show cooling, not warming and you know that big star we see in our sky every day? It's deep in a solar minimum now. The last time this happened we had the "year without a summer".

Scientific questions are not settled by taking a vote. That is a mistake that some global-warming proponents are making. The fact that a large portion of the public vote the other way does not make them right either.

Yeah, and the recent massive storms that blew through here were not a result of warming in the middle atmosphere, either. Instability that cause those massive storms comes from lower temperatures in the middle atmosphere, not higher. Search "Pacific Decadal Oscillation" for details.

It's an ocean-view property not beach front property.

Located well within where the Genius Gore claims sea levels will be in 50 years. There was an article about it posted right here on FR a while back. I'm sure you can find it if you want, but it seems you are more comfortable making excuses for Gore.

So you're saying that you should not be judged as smart based on an IQ test you took in high school?

Nope. It's what you do with your God-given talent that makes you who you are. I know quite a few people with IQ's well above Gores who can barely tie their own shoes. Lots of so-called "smart" people make really stupid choices. A high IQ simply means you have a high ability to learn. It does not mean you are smart. People with high IQ's tend to be smart because they find it easy to learn, but a high IQ does not mean a person is smart. This is a huge misconception. There are a lot of people with high IQ's who are dumb as stumps. If you want to call enriching yourself by deceiving millions of people "smart", please be my guest. It isn't my definition of smart by a long shot. The ability to deceive and intelligence are not interchangeable in their meaning.

Divinity school by comparison is a walk in the park.

Maybe so, but you're not entirely qualified to say since you haven't taken the time to find out exactly what divinity school is or what they study there.

It’s primarily just memorization. No critical or abstract thought. No reasoning.

Clearly the study of ethical and theological questions can involve a great deal of reasoning as well as critical and abstract thought, and this is not just memorization.

Also, people with very good memories are often also smart.

Okay, if we're going to play this game, do you have an advanced engineering degree or two? No? Then, how can you say with any authority that Divinity School is harder than earning a Master's in Electrical Engineering? Who died and made you the Wizard of Smart?

Clearly the study of ethical and theological questions can involve a great deal of reasoning as well as critical and abstract thought, and this is not just memorization.

The ethics involved are laid out quite well in the 10 Commandments. Seems pretty cut and dried to me. There is no theory. Maybe some conjecture, but overall I seriously doubt there is a whole lot of critical or abstract thought going on at all. It is what it is. Nothing has changed in 2000 years. Electrical and Aeronautical Engineering changes daily.

Also, people with very good memories are often also smart.

What evidence is there that Gore has a good memory? Sure is funny how a smart guy, Mr. 134 IQ, refuses to debate anyone publicly on AGM. Joe Bastardi, formerly Senior Long Range Forecaster for Accuweather (the largest weather organization on the planet) has offered a $1 million prize challenge to anyone who can debate him on the topic of AGM and win. He made that challenge 5 years ago. So far, no takers. Joe is just a Penn State grad. Surely 'ole Al and his high dollar Haaaaarvard/Ivy League credentials could handle a lowly Penn State grad? I mean, really, Penn State?

I never said that it is harder, but I do know quite a bit about electrical engineering and I also know a lot more about divinity schools than you do.

I have an advanced degree in a non-engineering technical field. But I have also worked in a field that is very closely connected with electrical engineering and at one point I even considered joining the IEEE.

I also have two relatives who were accepted into divinity schools. So I had an opportunity to learn quite a lot about them.

There seem to be some problems with your claim here:

1. I did quite a bit of searching and I can't find any reference on the Internet to Bastardi offering a $1 million prize. So if he did make such a statement, it does not seem to have been well-publicized.

2. It doesn't even make sense that he could have such a standing offer since the winner in a debate is often a matter of subjective opinion. Is Bastardi really so rich that he is willing to take any risk at all of losing $1 million?

3. Apparently Bastardi has debated various people on global warming, including Bill Nye.

4. Bastardi did offer a challenge to AGW proponents. But it was that both he and they should make a prediction for the 10-year change in global temperature and then wait to see who is right. People have taken him up on this challenge.

Do you want a cookie?

I have an advanced degree in a non-engineering technical field. But I have also worked in a field that is very closely connected with electrical engineering and at one point I even considered joining the IEEE.

Oh, so considering joining the IEEE and working in some unnamed field you claim is closely associated with electrical engineering somehow gives you vast engineering knowledge superior to a Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech (with honors)? Have you considered at all just how ridiculous this statement is? You're joking, right?

I also have two relatives who were accepted into divinity schools. So I had an opportunity to learn quite a lot about them.

Oh, so you gained all this knowledge of Divinity school because you had two relatives who were accepted into a yet to be named Divinity school. I see. Did said relatives come home every day and share their knowledge with you? LOL! Did said relatives finish Divinity school or did they flunk out like Gore?

1. I did quite a bit of searching and I can't find any reference on the Internet to Bastardi offering a $1 million prize. So if he did make such a statement, it does not seem to have been well-publicized.

You must not have looked very hard because he did it again less than a week ago on Bill O'Reilly's show! ROTFLMAO!

2. It doesn't even make sense that he could have such a standing offer since the winner in a debate is often a matter of subjective opinion. Is Bastardi really so rich that he is willing to take any risk at all of losing $1 million?

Why don't you contact him directly as ask? His public email isn't hard to find. Then again, you can't seem to find his challenge, either, that was renewed a week or so ago!

3. Apparently Bastardi has debated various people on global warming, including Bill Nye.

Yep, and I saw that "debate". Never, ever have I seen a more one sided slam-dunk. Bill Nye proved one thing. He's a blithering idiot. Bastardi wiped the floor with Nye. It was classic! Nye was left stammering and stuttering. The video is available on YouTube. Why not watch it and see for yourself?
