Shocker: AARP Gets An Obamacare Waiver
sa ^ | May 20, 2011 | Rob Port

Outside of the unions, there was perhaps no group more ardent in its support of Obamacare than the AARP. The advocacy group spent $121 million on advertising in favor of Obamacare, and millions more lobbying for it on Washington DC.

But now AARP’s insurance business, Medigap which competes with Medicare Advantage (a program AARP lobbied to have hamstrung by OBamacare), just got a waiver from complying with the law.

...

Keep in mind, again, that AARP is set to rake in billions in profits now that Obamacare has effective knocked Medicare Advantage out of the market.

Too bad the guy that bought all the billboards and full page ads touting the end of the world tomorrow didn’t use the money to expose AARP. You’ll never hear about this in the MSM.

Gov. Sarah Palin on Pelosi district’s Obamacare waivers: ‘Seriously, this is corrupt’
Published: 11:25 AM 05/17/2011 | Updated: 11:37 AM 05/17/2011

In response to the revelation that about 20 percent of the latest slew of Obamacare waivers went to luxurious restaurants, nightclubs and hotels in House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s district, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin told The Daily Caller the waiver process is “corrupt.”

“Unflippingbelievable! No, wait, it is believable,” Palin said in an email to TheDC. “Seriously, this is corrupt. And anyone who still supports the Pelosi-Reid-Obama agenda of centralized government takeovers of the free market and the corresponding crony capitalism is, in my book, complicit.”

President Barack Obama’s administration approved 204 new Obamacare waivers in April. Thirty-eight of them went to upscale businesses including four-star hotels, gourmet restaurants, day spas and hip nightclubs in Pelosi’s district. That’s in addition to 27 new waivers for health care or drug companies and the 31 new union waivers Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) approved.

Other common waiver recipients were labor union chapters, large corporations, financial firms and local governments. But Pelosi’s district’s waivers are the first major examples of upscale, gourmet restaurants and hotels getting a year-long pass from Obamacare.

The reason the Obama administration says it has given out waivers is to exempt certain companies or policyholders from “annual limit requirements.” The applications for the waivers are “reviewed on a case-by-case basis by department officials who look at a series of factors including whether or not a premium increase is large or if a significant number of enrollees would lose access to their current plan because the coverage would not be offered in the absence of a waiver.” The waivers don’t allow a company to permanently refrain from implementing Obamacare’s stipulations, but companies can reapply for waivers annually through 2014.

UPDATE: 11:38 a.m.:
House Speaker John Boehner, Ohio Republican, spokesman Michael Steel told TheDC this is another “backroom sweetheart deal” for Obamacare.

“It looks like ObamaCare’s backroom sweetheart deals didn’t end when it became law,” Steel said in an email to TheDC. “Remember when former Speaker Pelosi said we needed to pass the bill to find out what was in it? I guess once they found out, the high-end eateries and spas in her Congressional District weren’t big fans.”

There’s some chutzpah for you. AARP lobbied vigorously for Obamacare in order to be relieved of its money-losing medical insurance program—and now gets a waiver! AARP is not out for seniors; it’s out for itself.

“AARP is not out for seniors; it’s out for itself.”

Of course that has been true for decades. AARP is a left wing group that no conservative should ever support.
That maybe didn't use to be the case; but the evidence is overwhelming of what they support that is contrary to conservative values.

So this is the new order. Laws are passed by the left that only those on the right have to follow. The left is exempt from the law. As, apparently, they are also exempt from taxes, since half the population does not pay tax, and votes Democratic.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't the AARP trot out the senile old leftist Andy Griffith to beat the drum for OBummer care.
Seem to remember the old *astard on a bunch of lying commercials.

So all the supporters of passing Obama Care are getting waivers and all the people who didn’t want it are stuck with it. America, is this a great country or what.

This left wing lobby needs to be crushed. If you or anyone you know is 50 or over, please get information about the numerous pro America alternatives to AARP.

They have lobbied against nuclear power, against school vouchers and against gun rights.

They have lobbied for unions, for the National Education Association and will not take a stand against illegal immigration.

Should be interesting to see how the AARP lies to it’s membership on why it got the waiver.

And the left keep saying it’s about racism.

What a scam. Too bad it’s taken so long for so many to wake up.

They are stacking the deck every which way possible. It takes a lot of people
to do what’s been done. Very well coordinated with little Alinski babies in tow.

I wonder if the Mayan calendar ending in 2012 means the end
of life as we know it.

Dear AARP,

As the ultra liberal, dare I say even Marxist, organiztion that you are, KEEP YOUR LAWS OFF MY BODY!

Oh, I guess that no longer applies......

BTW, you dolts, just so you know the new legislation mandates a central database for medical records, maintained by the federal government. So, you are in support of the legislation away of the “right to privacy between a doctor and patient.” To be more direct, you supported the legislating away of Roe.

How will it feel to be hoisted on your own petard!

I still say the best way to beat this is for every single Republican to quit the party, re-register as Democrats, and start demanding equal exemptions in return for their support. Why prop up a faux opposition party when it’s a lot easier to undermine the Left using its own established system of cronyism and preferences? :)

I stuff the prepaid envelopes they send me with scrap, add a personal message telling them why I will never join and send it back. Yes, it’s stupid. I don’t know why I enjoy it so much, and they just keep on sending them.

Why isn’t there a lawsuit challenging on these waivers? The ones who do not get a waiver will be subsidizing those who do.

Campaign issue to be used against Obama and expose the AARP. You know Palin would go there! That’s what it’s going to take to get this to the public. They are confident the media will pass this info over, but it’s an issue that can be used effectively in a campaign. There are PLENTY of these issues to be brought to attention. We know Palin can draw a crowd.
