George Will, Republagogue
Texas For Sarah Palin ^ | 05/29/2011 | Josh Painter

Levin: "The contempt for Palin does, in fact, remind me of the contempt some had for Reagan"

A demagogue is defined as a person, especially an orator or political leader, who gains power and popularity by arousing people's emotions, passions, and prejudices. Which is exactly what George Will did this morning, as Doug Powers observes:

George Will seems to think American voters are concerned that our nuclear arsenal could fall into the hands of… Sarah Palin:

“The threshold question, not usually asked, but it’s in everyone’s mind in a presidential election. ‘Should we give this person nuclear weapons?’ And the answer [in Palin's case], answers itself.”

“You know how chicks are… she’ll probably get upset with a Real Housewives of Atlanta episode and hit ‘the button’…”

Doug recalls that Will's soft-spoken hysteria reminds him of how the elitists demagogued Ronald Reagan, either as “a doddering old fool” without sufficient mental capacity or as a warmongering Hitler salivating at the prospect of starting a nuclear exchange with the Soviet Union. But Reagan, as it turned out, negotiated with Gorbochev and signed the INF Treaty, which was the first nuclear arms control agreement to actually reduce nuclear arms, rather than establish ceilings that could not be exceeded.

And speaking of George Will and Ronald Reagan, Mark Levin has pointed out in defense of Sarah Palin:

George Will missed the Reagan Revolution not only in 1976 but as late as 1980. In the 1979 Republican Presidential Primary, his first choice was Howard Baker, his second choice was George H. W. Bush, and his third choice was Reagan. Not until days before the 1980 general election did he write on November 3, 1980 that Reagan deserved election. For all his wonderful columns, the Republican electorate better understood the needs of the nation and the excellence of a potential Reagan presidency than Will. It is hard to believe he was so wrong about a matter of such great import, despite Reagan's presence on the national scene for many years.

Will is welcome to his opinions, no matter how Sexist, Stupid, Elitist, or completely out of touch they may be. But, to call himself a CONSERVATIVE is as Laughable as calling his buddy Christiane Amanpour unbiased.

George Will really should retire before he embarrasses himself further.

I'm hoping a certain titular head of the Republican Party calls him out (on Tuesday) for his remarks.

What it comes down to, for me, is this.

Is Sarah Palin more likely to use nuclear weapons against the people of the United States than the ba$tard currently in the White House?

Not a freeking chance in he!!

Case closed.

Will was a personal friend of Reagan. As for Palin, what he said is silly considering the people we have elected over the last twenty years, including the current President.
I don’t see any evidence that Palin would be rash. Will should oppose her on policy, stamina and current political realities. In other words he has shown he can do better.

For all the Palin worshipers on here, George Will is a conservative. An Edmund Burke, Ronald Reagan conservative.

Disagree, unless you consider Romney, Pawlenty and McCain as Conservatives. Will may have been friends with President Reagan, I don't know and will take your word for it (though he didn't support him in 1980). But, I suspect Will is also friends with Barrack Obama.

Will doesn't represent Conservative core beliefs. In listening to him interviewed last week by Laura Ingraham, he doesn't even like Conservatives.

Regardless, what's amazing to me is how many people have been exposed in the past couple of years as FAUX Conservatives. If nothing else, this is one thing the rise of the Tea Party has accomplished.

I saw it, Will misses the point again.

At this point Will’s opinion on a Palin residency is irrelevent. Palin is not running so all these opinion pieces are irrelevent. You know what it will mean when she finally announces that she is NOT running? That she must have decided ....

Will was NOT in favor of Ronald Reagan until a wee bit before Reagan was elected in ‘80. He was for Howard Baker and then G.H.W.Bush during the primaries and was a Johnny-come-lately to Reagan’s side.

i appreciate your points. many years ago, Will was one of my favorites.

...but i haven’t read him much in years. yes, he is a conservative. but i see him now as one of the elitists, who simply wants a big CONSERVATIVE government to fix societies problems.

Reagan wanted to do away with big parts, like Dept of Ed. ...what does Will wish to get rid of ?

similarly, i used to adore Krauthammer. but he’s said things in the past year, i can’t believe.

...at best, they both are out of touch with their roots.

I wouldn’t trade Diana West, or Walter E Williams, for both of them together.

I don't know if she is or isn't running. Best guess I take from John Ziegler, who sees it as 60/40 she will run.

I can't find the Ingraham interview, but I heard what he said. He stated that the Republican Primaries are down to three quality candidates, Romney, Pawlenty and Huntsman. He further went on to refer to the Tea Party as populists, warning that a populist candidate would lose 45 states.

FYI, here's two well done 2 minute video's on Pawlenty and Huntsman...http://theiowarepublican.com/home/2011/05/27/the-2012-youtube-campaign/

“Will was a personal friend of Reagan.”

Will supported Howard Baker in 1980 and did everything possible to stop Reagan. Her became “a personal friend of Reagan” only after Reagan won the nomination.

George Will is far more of an establishment Republican than a conservative. He supported the Panama Canal deal and opposes the 2nd Amendment.

RE :" don't know if she is or isn't running. Best guess I take from John Ziegler, who sees it as 60/40 she will run.'

My opinion is she decided months ago if not earlier not to run. She is just teasing the sucker media who are very gullable, they go after anyone hinting of a run.

But I appreciate your honest opinion and I learn from it.
