Trump: Palin wants me to run
By Laura Donovan - The Daily Caller

While catching up over pizza slices in Times Square, former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin advised billionaire Donald Trump to “get back” in the presidential races, according to the “Celebrity Apprentice” host.

During a Wednesday “Fox and Friends” interview, Trump told host Gretchen Carlson that he and Palin discussed a myriad of topics.

“Did she try to encourage you to get back in the race because you were, in fact, a couple weeks ago saying you were sticking with Celebrity Apprentice, instead?” asked Carlson.

“Well, she’d love me to get back,” Trump responded. “You know, I had great poll numbers.”

But when host Steve Doocy inquired about Trump and Palin “teaming up in some fashion,” the real estate powerhouse said this particular subject was not brought up.

“We really did not [talk about that]. We talked about lots of things. We did not talk about that,” Trump said.

Several weeks ago, Trump announced that he would not seek 2012 presidency but instead stick with his show.

“I maintain the strong conviction that if I were to run, I would be able to win the primary and ultimately, the general election,” Trump said in a statement last month. “I have spent the past several months unofficially campaigning and recognize that running for public office cannot be done half heartedly. Ultimately, however, business is my greatest passion and I am not ready to leave the private sector.”

RE :"Don’t you know as long as you hammer Obama on his birth certificate you’re automatically a conservative regardless of any other positions you hold/held."

That was Trump's Chumps rule #1, beat Obama even if you need to elect a corporatist liberal con-man to do it.

In 2009 he was defending Obama and his economic plans(the stimulus and bailouts) , in 2011 he was demanding Obama's BC, that's just the sort of unpredictability we want in the HW, keep them (and us) guessing what is next, LOL

RE :”I almost fell for Trump for a while there... That said, he wouldn’t take a cabinet post...why would he?

I was far ahead of you, months ago I asked :” Why would he really run for president?” and the answer was ‘no reason’. Then why would he make believe he was running? To get free MSM and viewers attention and it worked great for him, but not for Republicans or conservatives though, especially the gullable ones that believed him.

I beleive Sarah has always said competition is good, as is diverse and spirited debate of ideas.

And since she has yet to formally and officially decide to enter the race herself, she’s not telling anyone not to run. Well, except Barry.

If he endorses Palin, it’s a good thing. Back when he started making noise about running, he was already speaking kindly of her, if they asked him about Palin.

And that is all she needs to pick up from him. The rest she can pick up from Sen. Rob Portman, formerly US Trade Representative in the Bush administration.

Same here. In an official capacity or otherwise, I would love to see Trump shape our trade policy.

...Trump is Palin's best chance of sinking Romney in the early primaries.

Good point. It's about the only thing to like about Trump being in the game at all. And it's a damned good reason -- Romney would be very bad news If, God forbid, Willard ended up in the WH, three things would happen:

1. Big government would continue to grow even bigger and average voters would become even more cynical and inclined to say (with justification that would be hard to argue with) that "there's not a dime's bit of difference between Republicans and Democrats, so why should I even vote?"

2. Because of increased voter cynicism and apathy (see #1 above), Congress would swing w-a-y left in the midterms.

3. The next Democrat to take the presidency would make Obama look "not so bad," just like Obama makes Clinton look "not so bad after all." Whenever a big-government moderate Republican takes hold, the Democrat who follows is ALWAYS way, way more leftist than the previous Democrat. That is the recoil, the ugly consequence, of electing liberal Republicans -- it pushes Democrats much, much more to the left.

The reality is that Romney poses as big a long-term danger to the Republic as Obama.

And he does look like he wants to take her to the prom. I like it. Palin-West 2012, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan!

How do you see Trump as a threat to Romney? I don’t see them as having the same voters at all.

On the other hand, if Trump turned out to be a Palin Democrat, that could be extraordinary.

I half-jokingly suggested back then that he was a stalking horse for Palin.

Now I wonder if that really was the intent...

Trump’s a classic liberal with a concern that the economy not totally crater. There are lots of those in NY.

Look at his donations record over the years: Ted Kennedy, Harry Reid, and other primarily Democrat pols. Those few times he has supported the GOP it has been the closet Democrats, like Charlie Crist, Arlen Specter and Mark Kirk.

The best we can hope for is that he become some sort of Palin Democrat who helps raise money from his rich pals in NY and FL. His prime political handler is a liberal Democrat operative, so that is unlikely, and more likely he’d help Obama by entering the race as a spoiler. But if Palin can woo him enough to keep him from doing that she’ll have done a mighty deed.

How do you see Trump as a threat to Romney? I don’t see them as having the same voters at all.

Part of Romney's attraction is his business knowledge and experience. Trump undercuts that support base. His potty-mouth straight talk gives real legitimacy to the outsider claim, rather than Romney's halfhearted one as a former governor of Massachusetts. And Trump undercuts the non-Evangelical support that Romney's getting. Could Palin claim a lot of these voters? Sure. Can she get them in the first few primaries, especially the open primaries? Don't think so, unless someone splits off Romney's votes and evens out the field.

I think it's a three horse race with Trump in it, or a one horse with Romney.

I don’t see any of Romney’s votes being outsider-driven, and I think Trump takes more outsider votes from Palin than Romney. But I actually think he’s both shot his wad in terms of primary viability and has enough reason to stay out of the primaries anyway.

But we can just disagree on his influence for the race.

Trump is a liberal poser. In a longer article:

Trump says the Ryan plan is a “death wish”.

Maybe if Trump showed all the "fascinating stuff" his operatives were digging up in Hawaii I might be inclined to believe what you say.

I'm more inclined to think all that "fascinating stuff" was just another Trump snow job.

I think this is a good move on Sarah's part to bolster her image.

Nothing would help highlight the seriousness, the intellectual depth, the bred-in-the-bone gravitas of Sarah Palin half as well as would putting her on the debate stage next to Donald Trump.
