Skip to comments. The Search Function;Posting Threads and The FR Mods
Posted on 06/01/2011 2:06:19 PM PDT by Dubya-M-DeesWent2SyriaStupid!
I always SEARCH before I post. I search BOTH TITLES if there are two. There are numerous times that a search does not show an article has posted in a thread and it has.
Just a FYI for all ya'll mods out there in moderator land that get snarky.
MOVING ON and TO CHANGE THE SUBJECT Where's Obama? Golfing?
LOL and how many threads that say the search function is broken even when you search two titles?
Seriously is Obama golfing?
> Already posted.
this thread is going to close and locked in 3, 2..
Do not search full titles. Choose one or two unique words that are at least 5 letters long.
Are you a secret mod? Is the list of mods cosmic top secret?
I posted an article once after doing a search. Nothing came up, but later I did find a second thread (prior to mine) where the poster had put the author’s name first. The mods didn’t catch me though, as the threads were a week apart.
You have won the Internets!
Aren’t you supposed to mark VANITY on vanity threads? This would seem to be pretty series....
We need a ‘search function’ sandbox ...
I think correct titles and authors are important.I won’t tell on you.
Every once in a while, it will work.
Usually the search engine will stubbornly default to keywords no matter how many times I try to search titles, no matter which angle I try to approach the engine.
Besides, why can’t it find the actual whole title???
Doesn’t that strike you as a *little* odd? Is this a microsoft class of feature?
Yeah we do. But I am telling you it sometimes just don’t work.
Exact title searches are your enemy. Search for relative keywords (more than one).
LOL I think we have to do download patches like XP.
Jim told us we could snark anytime we want. It’s one of the perks of being a mod.
Too often, the search feature hiccups on full titles, possibly because of three letter words, which it does not like...
Yeahbut, what happens when you jump the snark?

We are asking that you all follow these simple posting rules, search before posting, use links and sources when possible, and excerpt as required. Please take a moment to read. We need your cooperation.
Been there, done that, know how it feels.
Hmmmmm, next time I’ll try dropping the three letter words.
Worth a try, I suppose.
I’m not allowed to snark. So I just post quotes from mods snarking. ; )
Hey. Hey..........personal attacks aren't allowed here..........
LOL do you have a secret thread you talk about snarking in?
For example, let’s pick a current story that is running everywhere in the media...
Cell phones that might cause cancer.
I toss out ‘cell’ because I want longer words. So, I do a title search for ‘phone’ and ‘cancer’.
But it likes four letter words beginning with F or S, like Frak or Snit.
Search works fine for me. One or two main words from the title, not the entire title, and make sure it hasn’t defaulted to keywords on ya. Spelchek on the other hand.....
I have not posted in a week and you go and pick the other subject I posted about today.
I better get to my FReeperholic meeting.
You don’t need to pate entire article titles to search... there is a concept known as keywords - take ONE WORD from a title, and search on that... your choice of words will dramatically impact the quality of your search. And the word should be more than three letters... just a hint :)
Just a little good-natured ribbing, FRiend...
I am posting to you now will YOU see it or another admin mod?
With the depression has sidebar mods been laid off or ever promoted?
OK...here’s a different one....
wall street baffled
I know LOL. My cell phone cancer thread was in blogger land and I mispelled a word in the title so I think we need an edit/spell check button for the title to.
It is not intuitive and annoying.
Why can't we have search like the Advanced search on Google where we can put key words in a key word box, titles in a title box, etc. Or why not just let us type into a box and list the appropriate control words with a couple of examples?
I think we should ALL also have the ability to FIRE all of the senate and Congress (but the tea party) and vote to impeach Obama and be removed from office and we all win the lottery.
Well aren't you just special?
LOL I am I am. From now on I will just type Obama and the search will work.
I’m just shocked. SHOCKED I tell you!
Why ours has to be so lame I have no idea.
I’m the one by the off ramp of the interstate with the “Will ZOT for food” sign.
How many Admin Moderators are there altogether?
Just pick out an uncommon word or two from the title and ‘title’ search on those. It works reliably.
Due to high security risks, you will never seem them altogether. They're scattered all around the globe, hiding in their undisclosed locations, usually decommissioned missile silos or obsolete fruit and potato cellars once used by our Polish ancestors........
Sorry, but we haven’t completed the mod census yet. ;) Actually, there are close to a dozen of us in all.
All FR pages contain a little Google bug that apparently causes Google to notice whenever a new version of an FR page is posted. That means Google's index is exceptionally up to date for FR pages.
