Salon's Alex Pareene has noticed that ever since Matt Drudge latched onto the made-up story of Ashley Todd (the McCain supporter who claimed she was attacked by a black Obama supporter), the Drudge Report creator seems to have a new fixation: making whites terrified of blacks by providing a platform for stories about "scary black people," from kids fighting on buses to participants in "urban melees." Meanwhile, similar crimes by white kids (and nonurban melees) mysteriously get skipped over.
Pareene is adamant that this is intentional and political. We agree and would add that it's also probably quite effective. So brace yourself for even more stoking of racial fears...

... Since Obama actually took office, though, Drudge has seriously stepped up his "scary black people" coverage. There was, in September of 2009, the story he heavily publicized of a kid on a bus in Illinois getting beaten up. A kid on a bus in Illinois getting beaten up is not really national news -- until Drudge makes it so. The fact that the beater was black and the victim white is why Drudge made it national news.

It all came to a head, as John Cook noted, this Memorial Day weekend when Drudge posted 10 separate headlines -- including the massive, above-the-logo one -- related to violent incidents involving "urban" people at venues like "Black Bike Week" in Miami and "Rib Fest" in Rochester, N.Y. There was an "Urban Melee in Charlotte," for example. Do you know what makes an "urban melee" different from a regular "melee"? It's not that it takes place within the city limits of a major metropolitan area. It's that it involves the world's most obvious code term for "scary black people."

Errr....The author misses that it was Myrtle Beach. I lived in Myrtle Beach for a while and biker weeks were ALWAYS trouble.
I had a riot out here in the sticks yesterday but nobody showed up.
I believe they are kept more like pets by the likes of Sharpton, Jackson and other like minded so called civil rights leaders.
Even during the worse times of segregation I believe black on black crime was not as prevalent as it is now, also believe the level of education was much higher and respect for the family structure was still intact.
I hear that the black bears are protesting that they weren't invited.
I blame people like Sharpton, Jackson, and Gates for keeping blacks angry.
Yep, I led a solo “melee” in Home Depot last night. I rampaged through the aisles, taking a taped on label off of a ladder to take to the desk. I needed an explanation as to how a ladder 24 feet long (shown in the sketch fully extended to “24’ height”) could have a “23’ Reach”.
Then I “rampaged” back to LADDERS to replace the label. I tried to Tweet for a flash mob, but couldn’t manage to whistle, let alone tweet. “Tooting” only cleared the store.
Sounds like crying over the fact that Drudge is pointing out how violent the black urban culture really is.

He won’t EVER acknowledge there *IS* a problem intrinsic to “urban culture”. Just go to one movie at Atlantic Station in Atlanta (a nice part of downtown, BTW) and you’ll know. You’ll know.

I am not seeing stories of white trash rioting and acting ignorant to the extent we have seen young urban blacks doing so in recent years, although I believe it rarely happens.
But to deny what is occurring in public businesses (restaurants, retail stores, convenience stores) when large groups of this demographic gather is to turn a blind eye to a growing problem.
They should start watching the ADT commecials which NEVER show a minority as a perpetrator of any crime. I would never use ADT because apparently their system only works against white criminals. And here in my city about 80% of the crime is committed by minorities.
I need a system that will stop ALL criminals; no matter their color.
