Plaxico Burress partners with anti-gun org. (to discourage youth from owning firearms)")
NBC Sports ^ | 13 JUN 11 | Gregg Rosenthal

Posted on 06/13/2011 10:27:57 AM PDT by DCBryan1

In his first extended public apperance since getting out of prison, Plaxico Burress announced Monday in New York City that he has partnered with the National Urban League and the Brady Center to combat gun violence.

“I want to see every child have a chance to succeed. I have an opportunity to make a difference,” Burress said via the New York Post.

Quickly rehabbing his public image with a partnership like this is a page taken directly out of the Michael Vick playbook. So is the news Monday that Tony Dungy will serve as a mentor to Vick. Magic Johnson will also mentor Burress, who no longer owns a firearm.

“I’ve been a champion on the field and I want to be a champion in life off the field,” Burress said. He wants to discourage youth from owning firearms.

It’s easy to be cynical here, but Bob Glauber of Newsday believes Burress is a humbled, changed man after his experience in prison. Dungy said that prison taught Burress plenty.

“You hate to say it was a good experience, but it was a fruitful experience,” Dungy said via the Newark Star-Ledger.

I was part of the "Free Plaxico!" movement because, even dumbasses, have a Constitutional RIGHT to keep and bear arms.

Now that he has joined the enemy of freedom, Plaxico is my enemy.

Congrats Plaxico....you just made it onto someone in NJ's "Henry Bowman's list".

Plaxico is trying to get a job in the NFL. The NFL is very anti-gun.

How bright can he be?

Unless we protect the rights of the dumbasses and most lowly amongsts us (as long as they are not adjucticated insane) we are in danger of losing that RIGHT ourselves.

I was part of the "Free Plaxico" brigade because I hoped that he would fight for his rights, all the way to the USSC, even though he is not a good RKBA model.

I agree with you, somewhat, and feel that his sentence occured in that bar halfway between "Holy $hit" and "Thank you Lord!"

Teaming up with the Brady Bunch always makes it harder to turn over these unconstitutional laws. I want all gun control laws overturned: NFA 1934, GCA 1968, FOPA 86...ALL of them.

However now, the anti-gunners and leftists freedom haters ill use all of this negative PR of his actions and may further try to erode the protection of our God given RIGHTS.

Yep, if the NFL thought they could get away with it, they would ban players from owning a gun.

Well, actually pretty bright, he knows as a felon he cannot legally possess a firearm now so why not jump on the anti gun bandwaggon and probably get some free cash from the brady crowd to do so.

Why do the moderators even allow stories about trash like this out of New York be posted? Any story about or concerning the National Urban League should be offed; and frankly, out of respect for those of us in “fly-over” country, I’d start considering offing any stories aobut New York, LA, or SF.

Plaxico is trying to get a job in the NFL. The NFL is very anti-gun.

People who are out shooting on weekends aren't in the stadiums or at home watching the NFL games, bad for them.

And if they wear hats or t-shirts from sporting goods manufacturers instead of the local NFL franchise, that's VERY bad for the NFL and their merchandising reps.

NUL's Campaign to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) Mission:

According to CSGV, its mission is to secure freedom from gun violence through research, strategic engagement and effective policy advocacy.

The organization has five areas of focus, regarding issues and campaigns:

1) Guns, Democracy and Freedom: CSGV is opposed to the "insurrectionist philosophy" which the group attributes to the National Rifle Association (NRA). The coalition contends the right "to take whatever measures necessary, including force, to abolish oppressive government” is, in fact, a plot to oppose to any stronger, activist government and degrades the institutions that protect other freedoms. Ladd Everitt has called for the arrest of all Second Amendment activists, and has called for them to be prosecuted for treason. He also supports a secret watchlist, to be made and held by the government, of persons banned from gun ownership or self defense.

2) Microstamping: CSGV supports, on state and federal levels, research relating to, and the implementation of firearm microstamping, an emerging ballistic identification technology which purports to allow law enforcement to trace the serial number of a firearm from ejected cartridge case(s) recovered at a crime scene.

3) Gun Show Loophole: CSGV believes that the ability of private individuals to engage in private firearms transactions without requirement for background checks constitutes a 'loophole' in the law, and is working to change this.

4) Opposition to Concealed Carry: CSGV highlights problems with the current system for providing permits to carry a concealed loaded weapon in public. Federal Legislation: Through federal legislation, CSGV supports repealing the Tiahrt Amendment, renewing the Assault Weapons Ban, closing the "gun show loophole", and prohibiting individuals who are on any government watch list from purchasing firearms.

Quickly rehabbing his public image with a partnership like this is a page taken directly out of the Michael Vick playbook. So is the news Monday that Tony Dungy will serve as a mentor to Vick.

Well, we'll see how that works out....

I know that. If he really wanted to have one (or two), he could. How many convicted felons are subsequently charged with armed robbery?

That was always a great line. But Mrs. Liddy passed a way a couple of years ago. Wonder what the G-Man is doing about that now?
