Democrats Are All Cuomosexuals Now: 2016 Buzz Builds for Cuomo (They're SERIOUS!!)
The Atlantic Wire ^ | June 27, 2011 | Elspeth Reeve

Posted on 06/27/2011 10:38:21 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

The race for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination "just began" with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo's successful shepherding of a law to legalize gay marriage through the New York state legislature this weekend, Politico's Edward-Isaac Dovere and Maggie Haberman report. Cuomo's support for marriage equality puts him at the sweet spot in the arc of history, Democratic strategist Jim Jordan told Politico. His work on gay marriage could be as crucial to his political future as opposing the Iraq war was to then-state Sen. Barack Obama. Cuomo is the first national figure enthusiastically to push same-sex marriage at the exact moment a majority of Americans began to support the issue.

New York's LGBT Pride parade on Sunday took on the trappings of a Cuomo campaign rally--or at least a victory lap for the governor. He marched behind a massive banner with his name, while crowds waved "Thank You Governor Cuomo" signs. The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza writes that sure, 2016 is far, far away, but "political strategists are forever looking toward the future and the next big thing--and Cuomo made a claim to that title by finessing passage of the gay marriage bill through the Republican-controlled state Senate." Cillizza spoke to Democratic consultant Jason Ralston, who said that with this huge civil rights victory and his famous liberal name, Cuomo now leads the 2016 pack.

Cuomo even earned praise from combative Republican Gov. Chris Christie of neighboring New Jersey. Christie said on MSNBC Monday morning that Cuomo is "doing great....He gets in the room, he gets his hands dirty and he gets it done...He sets the debate, he defines the debate and then he compromises on the things he needs to compromise on. He's done a great job." The Philadelphia Inquirer's Matt Katz says these will be words to remember if we get a Cuomo-Christie race in 2016.

The New York Times' Michael Powell says everyone should calm down. "First, 2016 is the political equivalent of a millennium off. Second, Andrew Cuomo knows well how quickly approval curdles, particularly if the national economy remains semi-comatose." Sure, he corralled various political factions and "harnessed great poll numbers and notable legislative successes to pursuit of an issue of high principle. ... But in politics, it remains a long way from here to there."

Manhattan financier and social gadfly Euan Rellie tweets, "We're all Cuomosexuals today." Cuomosexuals? Yes, Rellie says: Chris Cuomo--brother of Andrew and an ABC News reporter--"quietly used the term" at a dinner at novelist Jay McInerney's house on Friday ahead of the vote. Rellie says he is "aggressivley promoting/publicising it." Perhaps we'll hear more of it, if not this presidential campaign, then the next one.

He may well be a tough contender if he sticks to the relatively fiscally conservative budget in NY.

Too soon to tell though, so for now, it’s just funny. Of course, FWIW we have PLENTY of ammo against him.

He probably thinks he’ll be succeeding Obama, but he might be running against an incumbent Republican in 2016...

If the truth be told
CUOMO 2012
Is what they’re after.

The Donks know that Obama can’t win next year. They are just positioning their pieces for the inevitable replacement candidate.

Come August 2012, we’re going to hear about how Obama just found out how sainted mother, in an effort to give her son a better life as an American citizen...

Nope, not 2012...2016. And if we don’t get the right guy in 1600 come January 2013 then we will one day call Cuomo Mr. President.

I’m the shy boy
You’re the coy boy
And you know we’re
Cuomosapien too
I’m the cruiser
You’re the loser
Me and you, sir
Cuomosapien too

Cuomosuperior
In my interior
But from the skin out
I”m Cuomosapien too
And you’re Cuomosapien too
And I’m Cuomosapien like you
And we’re Cuomosapien too

And I think of your eyes in the dark and I see the star
And I look to the light and I might wonder right where you are
All the gods in the sky way up high see the world spinning ’round
But the sun and the moon and the stars are so far from the ground

I’m the shy boy
You’re the coy boy
And you know we’re
Cuomosapien too
I’m the cruiser
You’re the loser
Me and you, sir
Cuomosapien too

Cuomosuperior
In my interior
But from the skin out
I”m Cuomosapien too
And you’re Cuomosapien too
And I’m Cuomosapien like you
And we’re Cuomosapien too

And the worlds built of age are a stage where we act out our lives
And the words in the script seem to fit ’cept we have some surprise
I just want this to last or my future is past and all gone
And if this is the case then I’ll lose in life’s race from now on

Cuomosuperior
In my interior
But from the skin out
I’m Cuomosapien too
And you’re Cuomosapien too
And I’m Cuomosapien like you
And we’re Cuomosapien too

And I just hope and pray that the day of our love is at hand
You and I, me and you, we will be one from two, understand?
And the world is so wrong that I hope that we’ll be strong enough
For we are on our own and the only thing known is our love
I don’t wanna classify you like an animal in the zoo
But it seems good to me to know that you’re Cuomosapien too

I’m the shy boy
You’re the coy boy...

I don’t wanna classify you like an animal in the zoo
But it seems good to me to know that you’re Cuomosapien too
I don’t wanna classify you like an animal in the zoo
But it seems good to me to know that you’re Cuomosapien too
I don’t wanna classify you like an animal in the zoo
But it seems good to me to know that you’re Cuomosapien too...

Just looking at numbers I don’t see how this is a net gain for a Cuomo candidacy.

On the Cuomo/Democratic plus side:

CDC studies show that LGBT population nationwide is around 2-3%, (not the 10% figure that used to be bruited around by gay activists.) Many of these voters are already Democratic single issue voters so where is any net gain.?

Many of them gravitate from red states to urban blue states for various reasons, not the least of which is a more liberal environment with consequent acceptance.

If you assume that 90% of the LGBT community votes Democratic, then this represents probably only close to 3% of the total US population and a goodly portion of that is in states like NY, Mass and California that are already solid in the Democratic camp.

The negative case for helping Cuomo/Democratic candidates:

Forget the Conservatives, Republicans and Religious groups that are against it by around 80% nationwide, substantial numbers of Independents are opposed to gay marriage. While I don’t know their numbers, broken down as a percentage of either blue, purple or red states, I recently read the nationwide percentages are over 60%. (67%?)

Unlike many or most gays, most Independents won’t be one issue voters, but this issue could easily turn some similar percentage of voters (say 3%) away from the Democratic ticket. And that three percent will be a much larger number of voters and spread out over the country more evenly.

If the Dems push this as an issue that Cuomo can run on, I think it possible to posit these results:

Red States become redder.
Some purple states turn red as the 3% of Indies weigh in on a social issue.
Some blue states turn purple.

If the Democratic strategists misread the polls and votes in these liberal states for a nationwide mandate for gay marriage, they may be pushing a wedge issue that works against them.

Junior Cuomo's been running since the cradle. In his latest costume, he's playing "responsible fiscal leader" at least in the press. His entire history screams "how not to be responsible" fiscally, but as long as he gives good quotes.

When he was HUD director, all that money ($56 billion, with a "B") that disappeared was dispersed to "community groups" (corrupt reverends, local mafia types, union goons) to create his grassroots network.

As Attorney General in NY, he actually prosecuted banking officials for obeying the rules he created as HUD directory.

It is absolutely inevitable that this corrupt little weasel will one day head the Dem ticket.

I really don’t think what Cuomo did is going to work out for them like they think it will. I think there is going to be a backlash that is going to replace him, the republicans that voted for it and hopefully the “law” they created.

Very true. Bill Clinton had a hand in that as well. He told little Andy that he had to think nationally and not locally back in the 90s.

When I averaged the % of voters in the states who voted for promarriage amendments it was around 67%. Most of the amendments were passed in the middle of the last decade though, it is probably somewhat lower now.

I think a recent poll had the number at 62%, which if true is pretty sad for the institution of marriage. But I guess if many see marriage as just a lousy gubberment contract or a collection of benefits that’s not too suprising.
