Br'r Perry is a regular old Algorite ~ just like the Rev. Fred Phelps and his Westboro Baptist Church.

You know Muewiyah, I hate it when people throw out statements like that. Can you give me some explicit examples of Perry acting like Fred Phelps and his parishners? Some site links??

Reagan was once a democrat too........but had a change of heart. Guess that can't happen with anyone else? Besides, years ago, democrats in Texas were NOT like the rabid democrats in many other states. Many other democrats in Texas followed Perry's example and switched to Rebublican, but if you note, we are still voting the republican party.

Now he comes over to our side when he senses that maybe we'll let him run as a Republican, and somebody does that, and he wins.

You write that as if he just decided to switch parties yesterday instead of many years ago!!

Perry’s vaccination order still stoking fires

AUSTIN — Blowback continued at the Capitol on Wednesday over Gov. Rick Perry’s order mandating
that schoolgirls be vaccinated against a sexually transmitted disease linked to cervical cancer.

Critics rip Perry’s vaccine mandate
Governor rejects opponents’ calls to reverse order

AUSTIN — Gov. Rick Perry stood firm Monday against a political firestorm generated by his
order that sixth-grade girls be inoculated against a sexually transmitted virus linked to cervical cancer.

Social conservatives from Texas to Washington called on Perry to reverse his order making
Texas the first state to require the vaccine, saying the mandate makes sex seem permissible
and that parents should be the ones to decide whether to immunize their daughters.
And several Texas lawmakers expressed outrage at Perry for circumventing the legislative process.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/04/26/us/26texas.html

The vaccine, Gardasil, is manufactured by Merck, which was represented in Austin by the
lobbyist Mike Toomey, who was chief of staff for Mr. Perry from 2002 to 2004.

“Perry used to run for office as a Democrat”

My uncle took Prez 41 H.W.Bush to a democrat meeting/conference down in TX back in the day. I was honored to have lunch with him onboard the USS AMERICA and Pres Bush told me the story.

SO, we all learn lessons.

Perry will definitely have a tough row to hoe but, with these credentials http://www.ontheissues.org/rick_perry.htm, he's already better than the rest of the GOP candidates put together.

IMHTEXASO, of course.

Then you must be a Palin apologist.
I live in Texas.

Perry’s a RINO, trying at the last minute, to court the conservatives

Perry's been elected three times by conservatives in Texas, 11 years now. Last minute....!

Gov. Rick Perry says that the Obama administration hasn't responded to his request for 1,000 National Guard members for more than a year.

[The only way perry could get elected in Texas is to run agaisnt the only more clueless - a Texas Democrat]

Say WHAT? Hutchison was a Republican Senator.

I think the difference between Perry and Regan was how their conversion took place.

I think we all know how it took place for Reagan.

It's a little murkier for Perry. He was a dim backbencher ready to throw in the towel. However the repukes were looking for a liberal to take on the commie Jim Hightower. Karl Rove recruited Perry to do the job.

Perry has never, to my knowledge, spoken of his epiphany on the road to Damascus. My take is that he didn't have one, he simply saw a political opportunity and took it. It's up to the reader to decide for themselves if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

Now you may think that I don't like Perry and you'd think right. Granted the gov doesn't have much power but under his watch the annual budget (2000 - 2010) increased 300%. Increased population and inflation would only account for 110% over that period.

My take is that the "conservatives" that we've been saddled with have spent to the point that would make Ann Richards green with envy.

You bet Texas has done well but that has been despite our government. And we're starting to drown. Property taxes are such that for most it would be cheaper to live in a state with income tax. And do you think were it not very, very hard to do we wouldn't have a state income tax?

So yeah, I'd vote for him if Obama was the only choice but as a conservative I'd prefer someone that didn't think, at the "young" age of 40, that Al Gore was the answer.

So every indication is that Perry is a big government guy, right now he's a governor and he thinks that big government should be state government. Does his history and actions suggest that once he becomes a Fed he wouldn't think that big government shouldn't be the Feds?

I have no idea, like many pols it's a pig in a poke and right now, while the field is still open, I'm not interested in buying anything in a poke.

I’ve done nothing but read threads for weeks now and frankly it gives me a headache. I really do like Sarah Palin but when I mention her to any of my well off, long time, conservative friends - here in Texas, they veer their eyes away and say nothing!! Now that is the truth, and it’s worried me a lot.

Perry is not perfect, but I’m tired of people throwing out statements that aren’t true and everyone latches on to them without checking the facts. If you did that on a Palin thread, you would get jumped on by dozens of people calling you names.

I think Perry can win wolfcreek, and removing Obama is of prime importance to our country right now.

“The Feds had already recommended Gardasil and placed it on the Vaccines for Children list of vaccines free for Medicaid and indigent patients.”

The problem with mandatory Gardasil is that as a vaccine, it just doesn’t stand up with the MMR or the DPT vaccines. A vaccine is a vaccine if a certain percent of the people (say above 80) will procure a protective effect on the entire population. Gardasil doesn’t work that well unfortunately. You’d need somewhere of upwards of 95 percent just to get the protective effect that most vaccines demonstrate at 80.

This is the bright line that divides say the flu vaccine from DPT, MMR, smallpox, etc. Gardasil is on the wrong side of that line.

Proof is in the polling.

Check where Slick Rick polled on the last potential presidential candidate poll.

Bottom. Last. Below. Ron (ru) Paul.

I guess there are more than a few who know Rick’s dealings.

He was already an office holder who'd been elected as a Democrat when he made the switch.

And yes, I think it's time we abandon the RINOs.

Why is everyone so up in arms over the Guardasil issue?

How is it any different than requiring parents to vaccinate their children for smallpox (back before smallpox was wiped out in America). Or typhoid, or measles/mumps/rubella, or any of the other vaccinations that schools require before children are allowed to be enrolled?

To d@mn the man for following the trend is really only okay if you d@mn the trend in the first place. To say nothing about the other vaccinations, but then scream bloody-murder over this one... really just comes across as rank hypocrisy.

As a fellow Texan, I’ll grant your critiques for the sake of argument, and yet when you lay those up, along with the rest of his record (prolife bills passed, eminent domain/property rights, solid fiscal conservative, low tax state, tort reform), he still comes off pretty good compared to some others.

And recall, Perry went right vs KBH and won big. Panderer though he is, he’s one of the few who panders to the conservative base.

In fact, despite his Democrat roots and pandering ways, its hard to make the case that he isnt conservative enough for the base ... to wit:

Perry v Romney - who is more conservative?

[he simply saw a political opportunity and he took it}

Don’t they all? Doesn’t every politician take advantage of opportunities?

Perry is strongly pro-life. Opposes government funding for elective abortions. Signed legislation limiting late-term abortions and requiring girls under the age of 18 who want abortions to notify their parents. Supports legislation requiring a woman see an ultrasound before receiving an abortion. Opposes embryonic stem-cell research and supports ban on human cloning.

Texas has done well, in my city of 70 thousand we have suffered little other than gas and food prices rising. As to your mention of high property taxes......I have not noted that.

As you say, you do not like Perry. I will vote for which ever candidate is picked. Obama is the enemy.

But, in spite of what you say - “The Feds had already recommended Gardasil and placed it on the Vaccines for Children list of vaccines !

And Perry did not “mandate” it, he offered an opt out and he obviously thought it was a good thing or would not have done that.

Wait and see......he hasn’t said he’ll run yet.

And - he had Sara Palin enthusiastically campaign for him in Texas for Governor. She said great things about him....

I’m in Ron Paul’s district. Nice family, I always get a nice cookbook in the mail from them, but Ron Paul is a Libertarian and he reminds me of Donald Duck when he talks.
