A passenger on a United Airlines flight had to be tied up and gagged and the flight diverted after he refused to come out of the bathroom and then turned violent when confronted by staff.
The United Airlines flight 944 to Frankfurt, Germany, from Chicago was diverted to Cleveland on Friday night after the flight attendant found that the large man had been in the bathroom for almost 30 minutes and refused to come out.
When he eventually did he started screaming at the flight attendants and put one in a headlock before wrestling him to the ground.
That is when some of the passengers on board were asked to help.
Joe Shulfer, of Woodstock, told Newsradio 780: 'The flight attendant just ran up to me and literally grabbed me by the shirt and said, "You need to come with me now".'
By then three men were already wrestling with him and they managed to handcuff him and tie up his feet. Then he started spitting and swearing.

who is “the man”?
Not one of holders people. But perhaps of middle eastern decent between the age of 18 and 40?
Moral of the story, don’t use the bathroom for too long or you’ll be dragged out and hogtied.
I’m confused. I thought the Amish eschewed modern conveniences such as air travel.
“Had to be bound and gagged” or was bound and gagged?
I would be happy to beat some dumb ass who needs 30 min on a flight in the bathroom and can’t explain politely with a pretty good reason. Really how stupid can one be. (or dangerous)
I am surprized that the flight attendants had to ASK someone to help, I am 6’2” and 220 pounds and I of been on that like white on rice. Hell if I am going to sit passively and watch the plane get crashed, after seeing what happened on 9-11
Well there was that little bit about putting a flight attendant into a head lock before he had to be tied up.
Of course there is no name attached to the article, but there is a photo of a dark-haired, bearded man lying tied up on the floor, face blurred out.
Poor man doesn’t even have a name. No wonder he was upset
99% chance his name is Mohammed.
1% chance his name is Barack Hussein.
Hmmm, I wonder what the guy’s name was? I don’t mean to stereotype, but I bet it was something like Jebediah, Joseph or Matthew. Damned Amish!
The "reaction", if we can call it that, can trap you on the pot FOR HOURS.
So, where would you find Zantham Gum on an airplane these days?
Well, let's start with those funky crackers they distribute as a replacement for peanuts!
I would suggest folks not jump to conclusions about whether this guy needed to go to the toilet or if he is going to win his lawsuit!
You should also pay attention to "what goes on" for a few hours after consuming anything with Zanthum Gum just to see if you have an allergic reaction.
Maybe it was the lack of peanut snacks that drove the guy crazy. A person can only take so much, you know.
If his name had been Joseph or Matthew, it would have been published.
More likely his name was Mohammed or Ahmed.
Maybe the next time he flies, he should try Metamusil.
Stomped to death instead of restrained would be appropriate.
Yes, though peanuts are still on some flights. When I flew from NH to Pittsburgh by way of Balt., I noticed we got peanuts on the way to Balt., but from Balt to Pitt., it was honey roasted peanuts all right (Southwest. Ding!)
On my way back I noted a video screen at Pitt. International Airport with helpful info for travelers from the TSA, as we stood in line to go through security. At one point it expressed the consequences one would face if they joked about having a bomb, etc.
oops that should say we were given PRETZELS instead of peanuts on the first part.
Then honey roasted peanuts.
Or this, try doing a 14 hour flight from Mumbai with extreme stomach problems having to use the bathroom every half hour on the way back.
The FBI has now identified the passenger as 21-year-old Saleh Alramakh of Akron.
“The FBI has now identified the passenger as 21-year-old Saleh Alramakh of Akron.”
So he’s Italian?
LOL! Such an ignorant, bigoted statement. It is only 78% of them which make the other 22% look bad. So to show how enlightened I am, I'll bet there is only a 78% he was named Mohammed or some derivative thereof. And a 20% chance he was named Achmed, Ahab or something like that.
I agree. I have a policy that if any SOB acts up on a plane I am taking them down ASAP. Not going to be asked to help. Remember a few weeks ago when the jerk was pounding on the cockpit door? I most likely would of taken him out of the play forever. I will not tolerate that kind of behavior on an aircraft.
These moslems have zero self-control.
Just look at Barry “Jihad” 0bama.
Aka President Omoslem.
I see now why this happened, his name is Saleh Alramakh...
...he WASN’T arrested...? Must be because he has a middle-eastern name. Can’t be stereotyping, now...
If he had spit on me they would have delivered him to police unconsious.
Nothing is as nasty as a s.o.b. spitting on people.
they should have kicked his ass good.
I’m sure he spent 30 minutes in the restroom just using it as intended.
I would suggest you read the article.
The mirror was removed, wires were hanging from the ceiling, and he put the flight attendant in a head lock.
"A United flight from San Francisco to Germany was diverted to Chicago early Sunday morning after a crew member discovered a sticker with a threatening message in one of the bathrooms.
You missed with the 20%, his name doesn't start with an 'A'.
The FBI has now identified the passenger as 21-year-old Saleh Alramakh of Akron.
Ohio?!? Who'd a thunk that Akron would be the source of this kind of problem?
Just a headlock?
And flush toilets!
Was he yelling “Zips Akbah”?
The incident must have happened right after takeoff, since they left Chicago and diverted to Cleveland.
Sounds suspicious to me.
Hmm, it sounds like Stryker still isn’t over Macho Grande...
5 minutes before our decent he went into the bathroom and NEVER came out, even after I departed the plane. I was on high alert and there was definitely something going on.
Soft Pretzels, particularly sesame ring pretzels are kept in shape through the use of Zantham Gum.
Zantham gum? Isn’t that another one of those manufactured corn byproducts?
Lots of Muslims in Akron, mainly Somali IIRC. For some reason, lots of Somalis moved into those Northern states like Wisconsin, Minnesota and Ohio.
Moral of the story, dont use the bathroom for too long or youll be dragged out and hogtied.
The moral of the story is to read the whole story. I guess you missed the putting the flight attendent in a headlock.
Yikes! That would drive me nuts!
I don’t know why you folks are so upset over a muslim on a plane. After all, we have a muslim on AF-1 all the time.
Alramakh breaks into AL RA MAKH ~ which is kind of funny since it's got mixed grammatical elements (which makes it terribly difficult to translate since my knowledge of Arabic is limited). However, it could mean "From Mecca", or "On the way to Mecca", or "Turned around at Mecca" ~ and that sort of confusion in grammer means this guy has an old noble family name if he's Arabic, or just a made up name if he's not.
He could be a rich Saudi or a poor Yemeni.
The President of Yemen carries a surname of Saleh.
I certainly wouldn't use the headlock thing but he would have closed the door quietly and whimpered.
Minnesota gives immigrants a 5 year state tax-free status. Despite the fact that they are the greatest drain on the taxpayer, society, welfare and social services; the Somali and other immigrants don’t have to pay into the tax system that supports them, for a period of 5 years.
Not too surprisingly - more than a few leave after this benefit ends. Gee, thanks Minnesota.
