ABC News probes gay 'cure' claims about Bachmann clinic
The Politico ^ | July 11, 2011 | Maggie Haberman

The questions about Michele Bachmann's husband's crisis clinic - and reports its services including helping to "cure" homosexuals - went mainstream tonight, with an ABC News story featuring undercover video shot of one of the center's counselors saying it's "possible" to be "totally free" of such feelings.

The "World News" report included an interview with a former patient at the clinic, who told the ABC reporter that he'd been sent there when he was 17 years old to try to "change" him.

"[One counselor's] path for my therapy would be to read the Bible, pray to God that I would no longer be gay," Ramirez, who went to Bachmann & Associates in 2004, "And God would forgive me if I were straight."

The reports - denied repeatedly by the Bachmanns - have been circulating for years. But the ABC News story included undercover video of a counselor shot by a member of the advocacy group "Truth Wins Out."

The counselor, in the video, is seen telling the patient - who, according to the report, said he was a gay man who wanted to be "cured" of homosexuality - that "God has designed our eyes (for you) to you be attracted to (a) woman's body."

Stepford Congresswoman Bachmann’s social crusading to make herself more palatable to voters in the middle.

Proof of how utterly clueless you are. This sort of report dramatically increases Bachmann's chances of securing even more of evangelic vote in Iowa, the same state where Republicans nominated Pat Robertson and Mike Huckabee.

I wish that the Bachmanns had came out early about it and said yes ... but the NEXT THING if there is MORE added to this ...
///
this already IS “more added” !
i haven’t paid much attention since the previous things, like her saying vehemently that they didn’t get a penny from the farm, OR the clinic, and then tax records showed they did. and many other things, that others have pointed out.
now, i see that she lied about her husband using Christianity to cure Gays ?!?
...if there is ANYTHING i expected her to stand up and be honest about, regardless of cost, it is her faith.

that was the ONE thing i respected MOST about her!
that she had the courage of her convictions, especially about her Christian faith.

...the left invented things about Palin from whole cloth. they literally put words in her mouth.
But Bachmann SAID those words, on several things now, that were misleading at best.
sorry if her supporters wish to kill the messenger.
but it’s NOT the same as what the media did to Palin, when Bachmann does things like “John Wayne” to herself.

Bachmann may end up as the nominee, or at least the VP.
(and i will support her!!!)
but the left DOES hate her for her views, especially Christianity, anyway. so why not at least be honest,
and not give the MSM even more free ammo?

It’s a private business. Liberals hate business owners that don’t do what they are told by them.

But for some reason it’s a yawner story when Planned Parenthood tells girls it’s okay to break the law and get benefits. Oh wait, read first paragraph.

this is bad. I heard they took government money for this also.
/// i heard that also. and that Bachmann claimed they didn’t get a penny of it (it all went to staff), and that it was a “one time” thing. but records show it was for 6 years.
...just like claiming 50,000 for the farm was “not a penny”.
she shoots herself in the foot, repeatedly, and then when a conservative points out her own words, her supporters claim it is media lies. Just like Obama supporters saying any honest criticism of “the one”, is racist.
sorry, truth is truth. facts are facts.
Bachmann needs to be scrupulously clear, precise, and honest, or the MSM WILL eat her alive.
and we DO need good conservatives like her!

You do realize that any candidate that thinks the Earth is 6000 or so years old stands absolutely ZERO chance of winning the Presidency, right? None. Zippo.

“Somewhere in my allergy laden brain, that was the muddled point I was trying to make..”

I feel for ya. I was glancing through one of my kids’ books and their was what I thought a great sentence that often fits “I woke up, my brain feeling like it had been tenderized in molasses.”

Nope, this is going to ruin her chances. It is too easy to turn it into prime time fodder which is the main influence of most voters.

I don’t think Bachmann, who I like for her excellent attacks on Obama, is going to go very far this cycle, but I admit to not having a crystal ball either. It looks like she is appropriately raing her stature, can’t blame her.

There’s not a chance she’ll last for the nominee—or be named as veep. She and Marcus have too much out there to bring her down before then.

I reminded ABC that a man named Robert Spitzer published his study and findings in the Archives of Sexual Behavior Oct.2003. pp413-417. I reminded ABC that the APA back in the mid 70’s said dropping homosexual behavior as a treatable condition from the DSM was not anything beyond a housekeeping
In house factor that would have No affect on anything outside their DSM. There is to date NO credible Science to prove that reparative therapy does not help— No conclusive Science that says sexual orientation -once declared gay cannot change.Jeff Satinover, Dr.Throckmorton, and many professionals would disagree with the “already captured” crap of ABC news.

yeap. the hypocritcal statement sof being for small government while at the same time taking government paychecks plus lying about taking those government paychecks because you know it paints you as a hypocrit is not good. Bachmann is increasingly being seen as a person that just says what you want to hear.

Glad to see they found something to focus on besides Fast and Furious that is of such great importance to every man, woman and child in America.

Definitely a lead story on the nightly news and an "above the fold" item for the next couple of news cycles.

Absolutely! This is a wonderful thing to try and lead homosexuals (not gay, the gay word needs to be brought back to it`s original wonderful meaning) and now am I hearing that MB wants to be President so bad she will even throw her deepest held beliefs under the bus?

Will she say or do anything to be elected? I think we saw her backsliding begin with hiring Rollins and giving him the go ahead to trash Palin.

I suspect when she met with Rollins to discuss his hiring, he told her, Gov Palin is your main opponent and we need to go after her.

I suspect that`s how it went down, and remember they tried to blow the story off until her message box was filled with negative comments from Social Conservatives/Tea Party folks.

Then only did she Feign outrage over Rollins comments. But refused to personally apologize to Gov Palin.

She should take a lesson in character from TPAW (who I am not endorsing) who personally took it upon himself to apologize to Bachmann for his man Webber`s attack on MB.

I see they're jumping on the (unattributed) statement of someone 2 or 3 degrees removed from MB, that people are "born heterosexual."

Well.

Born homosexual? Born heterosexual?

We're all "born mammals," simply because our species is mammalian, whether or not a particular individual develops lactating mammary glands and actually nurses a baby. In that manner of speaking, we're all "born heterosexual"--- in the sense that our species is sexually differentiated for reproduction, whether or not a particular individual actually mates reproductively.

In another manner of speaking-- in the sense of "responding to erotic stimuli with genital arousal" --- you could, on the other hand, say nobody is born any-sexual.

But what if you experience strong sexual reactions which are at variance with your own ethical beliefs? Is there a cadre of psych professionals out there saying that you are not allowed to try to bring your drives and behaviors into harmony with your moral values?

Or that it's unethical to --- by your own desire --seek help in acting ethically?

Goshdarn it, some people are just excited by the idea of getting rich by any means necessary. Sing it, Bernie Madoff! "Hey-ey Baby, I was born this way!"
