Obfuscation: Dems Push Gun Control To Hide ‘Gunwalker’ Scandal
Pajamas Media ^ | July 16, 2011 | Bob Owens

They choose a pivotal moment in the Gunwalker investigation to announce a gun-control bill.

A handful of Democratic lawmakers in Congress and a fish cop held a press conference Friday to announce a new gun control proposal, the “Stop Gun Trafficking and Strengthen Law Enforcement Act.” The proposed law has no chance of passing, and seems orchestrated as a Democratic response meant to draw attention away from the still-developing “Gunwalker” scandal:

U.S. Representatives Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY), Elijah E. Cummings (D-MD), ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, and Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY) will join other members and a leading law enforcement organization for an event Friday, July 15th, 11:00 a.m. at the House Triangle to introduce the “Stop Gun Trafficking and Strengthen Law Enforcement Act,” which establishes a dedicated firearms trafficking statute to empower law enforcement to keep high-powered firearms out of the hands of dangerous criminals, including Mexican drug cartels.

The exact same agencies that would be charged with enforcing the proposal are currently under investigation — and may eventually face felony charges — because they broke existing laws and participated in widespread gun trafficking. To borrow from a reader, the federal government is using federal agencies to break federal laws so that same federal government can impose more federal laws on the people that did not break the law.

It is Orwellian in its absurdity, and yet entirely real.

For those of you arriving to the story late, the scandal of Gunwalker began when ATF whistleblowers testified about a multi-agency federal program in Arizona called “Operation Fast and Furious.” The program was carried out by a multi-agency task force involving elements of the Department of Justice; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives; the Federal Bureau of Investigation; the Drug Enforcement Agency; and the Internal Revenue Service. It would also have likely required the involvement of the Department of State and the Department of Homeland Security.

As executed, the plot allowed straw purchasers to buy thousands of firearms and deliver them to Mexican drug cartels, presumably so that the ATF could learn who the primary gun smugglers were inside the cartels in order to shut them down. It was recently revealed, however, that at least some of the men the ATF were seeking may have been paid informants for the FBI and DEA.

Within the past week, evidence has emerged suggesting that the plot was not confined to Arizona. Similar programs existed in at least three other regions, including an operation that may have been called “Castaway” that shipped roughly 1,000 firearms to the violent gang MS-13 in Honduras from a multi-agency operation based in Tampa.

These politicians — who seem immune to either common sense or irony — can perhaps be convinced to re-title this legislation the Eddie Espinoza Act of 2011, in honor of the Democratic mayor of Columbus, NM, who was recently convicted of trafficking guns to Mexican drug cartels. Espinoza may face up to 65 years in prison — up to 10 years in federal prison for each of the smuggling counts and up to five years for the conspiracy charge as well as each of the false statement charges — for committing many of the same criminal acts (on a much smaller scale) as those carried out by the federal government that prosecuted his case.

Representatives Maloney, Cummings, and Carolyn McCarthy seem to be far less interested in holding those responsible for Gunwalker to account than they are in persecuting gun owners and hobbling the investigations into the scandal being played out in the House and Senate.

We saw this disreputable behavior from Cummings when he held a minority forum several weeks ago that was focused on blame-shifting instead of accountability, and in the 26-page political report that minimized the magnitude of the crimes perpetrated under the guise of law enforcement while building the case for gun control.

Anti-gun Democrats are pushing laws that would only affect the law-abiding, while attempting to direct attention away from what appears to be a widespread criminal conspiracy by executive branch agencies to arm narco-terrorists and then use the violence caused by those weapons to influence U.S. gun laws.

Americans don’t need more gun laws.

What we need are federal law enforcement agencies, legislators, and elected and appointed officials that aren’t willing to “break a few eggs” — or a few hundred lives — in order to take part in an illegal and murderous conspiracy.

Chutzpah.

Like killing your parents, and then going to your state's Child Protection Unit to complain about their abuse.

These guys did this Gunwalker FOR JUSTIFICATION FOR GUN CONTROL, so even if the plot failed, they are pushing gun control?

Chutzpah.

Gunwalking AND gun control are BOTH against the law.

F&F is a thousand times worse than Watergate, and the Dems are petrified.

So they confuse and obfuscate.

“The proposed law has no chance of passing,...”

Wanna bet!?

This was the entire purpose behind Gunwalker in the first place.

Don’t put anything past this administration and the RINOs.

They broke the law.

Since they got away with it, you’ll have to give up your money and freedom.

You can thank them now. :)

This is how Democrats do business. It’s like when Algore broke campaign finance laws. Everyone started screaming for new laws, and his buddy McCain came to the rescue. Operation Gun Runner was always about creating a crisis in order to pass new gun laws. Think “War on Drugs.” The Fed is trying to manipulate us into a War on Guns. Never mind that “Fast and Furious” got exposed. Democrats have no shame, and they have no moral sense of right and wrong. They are like progressive Republicans when it comes to pragmatism. As long as they get what they want, damn the consequences.

Yeah, well.... It’s just a role call of the same dipsh*ts that couldn’t have passed this in the four years when they held the House. I’m getting a little tired of the “Democrats are gonna outlaw guns.” mantra. Just the flip-side of the Dems claiming that the election of a Republican president will make abortion illegal. So, I just buy an ugly gun or two each election year and sit back and watch the ninnies shout at each other.

Just a page from the Black legislative caucus’ playbook. The Blacks when their relevance to anything gets low, they pull out the bloody shirt and attack the Confederate Flag, Southern History, and heritage dedications and scream racism. Its a diversion technique that Jesse Jackson, Rangel, Jackson-Lee, Holmes, B.Hooks, Barry, and a multitude of others have used when they come under scrutiny for sexual escapades, embezzlement, and dishonest dealings. When the Democrats and the black legislators especially start attacking something, better look at them closely because they are hiding something. This situation is no different.

Why is it necessary for everybody involved in these discussions to go off-topic, or to dive into the cloud of divesionary dust flung into the air by the scoundrels and their media enablers to keep us from seeing... or discussing, the actual issue at hand?

Let's cut to the chase.

We'll begin by stating, then setting aside, the obvious.

1) Obama and Holder want to take away our guns. We know this because their various arms-related organs are using guns in their current sub-rosa operations. The only reason these anti-gun stinkpots ever touch, talk about, or have anything to do with guns is when they are cooking up another assault on our 2nd Amendment.

2) The current "flood Mexico with American guns" ploy is intended to generate outrage from Mexico which Obama and Holder can then use as an excuse for executive orders about new gun control and, if "needed", imposing Martial Law. The likely end result being attempts to seize American's firearms.

3) Why is it so important, right now, to get all these players and plots into motion? What is coming up in a little over a year? Why, it's a presidential election! What a coincidence.

Okay, we've used our acknowledgment of the obvious to steer us toward what we should be discussing right now, which is "Why do the power-grabbing 'recreate-America-in-our-Leftist-Progressive-Image' filth need to do all this right now?

We know that Obama's plan is to collapse the entire American capitalist-financial system so it can be replaced with the new Progressive model. We know that everything he is doing, and has done to "fix" the current crisis has only made is exponentially worse. That he insists on ignoring the time-tested measures for actually resolving such issues and instead implementing more destructive charades is a clear, and clearly probitive, pattern.

Up until a year ago, the Progressives had pretty smooth sailing ahead. They owned both houses of Congress and the White House. Mr. Barry Mack Daddy was well on his way to packing the Supreme Court with radical socialist activist pseudo-legislators. George Soros and his minions were getting leftist agents elected to Secretary of State roles in all the key electoral states in the Union (these are, conveniently enough, the folks at the Statewide level who "certify" State-by-State election results).

Not that this was the plan, but if you had a ratbag thug in the White House who wanted to impose un-constitutional Socialist policies on a Sovereign Republic, and your main tool for stealing elections (let's use "ACORN" for this hypothetical) had recently been castrated by a sleuth filmmaker, what could you do to ensure that no future elections ended up like last November's ass whupping rejection of you and your putrid ilk?

Why, you'd pack the Secretary of State positions with more complicit activists!

But what if the people sued for justice?

You could pack the Supreme Court!

Now you've covered all your socialist progressive takeover bases, right?

Wrong. One potential fly is still crapping in the ointment (or on your lip with the cameras rolling, as the case may be...).

These unwashed heathens still have their damn guns.

Okay, enough with the ridiculous tinfoil hat hypotheticals. We all know that there is NO WAY that this is what's taking place right under our noses. It's just one of those 397-billion-to-one against-the-odds coincidences that all of these facts are coming together at precisely the same time, just a little over one year before the next election.

I mean, come on people. Get real.
