Despite reports to the contrary, the Sarah Palin movie The Undefeated did not play to empty houses on its first weekend out in North America. According to Box Office Mojo, The Undefeated brought in $65,132 at 10 locations over the weekend of July 15-17; the Stephen K. Bannon-directed film's per-theater average was a so-so $6,513. So, "so-so" may not mean "packed houses" or "boffo" (in icky Variety slang), but non-existent patrons bring in no revenue.
The claim that The Undefeated was playing to empty houses became "fact" following a report by The Atlantic's Conor Friedersdorf, who described his experience sitting mostly alone at a midnight screening of Sarah Palin documentary in mostly Republican Orange County, right behind the Orange Curtain southeast of Los Angeles. But clearly, paying customers were around at other The Undefeated screenings in Orange County, Houston, Phoenix, Indianapolis, and elsewhere. Perhaps far-right Republicans go to bed early?
For comparison's sake: on opening weekend, Charles Ferguson's Inside Job averaged $19,825 at two theaters, Alex Gibney's Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer averaged $5,654 at three theaters, and Judith Ehrlich and Rick Goldsmith's The Most Dangerous Man in America: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon Papers earned $1,114 at one location. Inside Job cumed at $7.87 million worldwide; Client 9 grossed a total of $192k and The Most Dangerous Man in America $453k.
Another 2011 release aimed at the American far-right, the widely derided Atlas Shrugged: Part I, bombed last April. Produced for $20m, the film adaptation of Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged collected a mere $4.62m in North America after much fanfare about a middling opening $1.68m at 299 locations, or $5,640 per venue.
Now, some heartless bleeding-heart Liberals have ridiculed the title of Palin's movie even though it may actually turn out to be prophetic. After all, The Undefeated will almost certainly be up for at least one major honor during movie awards season: With a 0% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes 11 critics; 11 pans The Undefeated is already a Razzie 2012 front-runner.
"She's the political equivalent of what the Razzies are all about," Razzie president and founder John Wilson told the Los Angeles Times. "And she's hysterically funny if you don't stop and think, 'Oh, my God, she could've been vice president!' Sarah Palin exhibits ineptitude and an indefensible grasping after other people's ideas, calling them her own. Just like Hollywood filmmakers who can't make an original movie. She wants you to put on rose-colored glasses instead of 3-D glasses, but there is still a surcharge you should not pay."
Let'em hit away...then; WIN SARAH, WIN!
What were they looking for in order to open the movie wider?
Does this mean she might decide not to run?
It certainly sounds depressing that she is still such a media laughing stock. FR is its own little world, but Palin needs those independent votes. If the movie is to help change the impression of her, it needs to be wide release so that non-fans would ever even go in the door. Those few attendees cannot win her the Presidency.
This is a grassroots approach, and it’s the way the process of building political support should happen.
“This is a grassroots approach, and its the way the process of building political support should happen.”
What do you mean by “this”? Just opening for fans for one weekend? Where is the build? Do you think she got any bump in popularity from it? I am a huge palin fan. But i think she needs to open it in wide release in order to change some opinions. Possibly the DVD release will help as well.
What the h*ll are you talking about?
It’s going to be released to a wider audience but they are doing it slowly and methodically to maximize sales and hit key markets
Seriously, I’m on your side here! Hold your horses! The media is bull poop. However, the movie was made not to get choruses of oh yes from her fans (including me). It was to explain the gauntlet no politician has ever had to run in this country as far as we remember. It was to explain why she did the best for Alaska by stepping down. That is why it needs to be seen by others.

“
Ok, thank you. That is what I asked about.
Sheesh, I got yelled at and insulted and sworn at just for asking about a wider release?? This is how you guys treat Fellow Sarah Donors or Voters?? Ugh.
This is not a Perry thread.
But here you go.

who was very obviously of the Caucasian race, with fair skin, blue eyes, and, at a younger age, light brown hair.

Let me offer a little foreshadowing, based on past experience. No matter who we run at any time in any race, the media is going to write these articles and the left wing is going to savag them through media, Hollywood, tv, comedy shows, and magazines. If you read each and dismiss that person the liberals goal is accomplished.
“....but Palin needs those independent votes...”
####
What is an “independent”?
What does it believe in?
What are its core values?
I can’t consider Perry a viable candidate. He’s “liberal Bush”.
True. Just on the oreally show they played a clip of Michele B. arriving where a crowd was gathered. Except, the crowd was sitting around on lawn chairs and nobody got up to run to her as she stepped off the bus and ran out among the people. My thought was, "If that had been Sarah, that crowd would have climbed over each other to get to her as soon as she stepped down from the bus."
Oops, typod my slash command.
>>> NOT Opening-Weekend Box-Office Flop
Undefeated was the 40th highest grossing movie this weekend.
41st was Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Big Happy Family, which in it’s thirteen weeks of release has grossed $53,311,948.
39th was Something Borrowed, which in it’s eleven weeks of release has grossed $38,955,889.
How do you find listings for this movie?
WHOA!
Sounds bloody and ruthless.
It's designed to counter the years of hate, lies, and venom directed at Palin.
And at that, it's working, among those who see it.
As well as some of their friends.
Cheers!
What is an independent?
The 38% of all voters that dwarf both Democrats and Republicans in number.
What does it believe in?
Well, for one thing, 69% of Independents believe that Sarah Palin would NOT be a good President.

Fox News this morning made an error in the reporting and announced that the film brought in $650,000 over the weekend. Someone on the staff apparently thought the $65,000 was at each location not the total. Its good publicity though as listeners may think the high total means its a popular flick and will make a decision to go view it.
The movie is opening in new cities this weekend.
