Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is urging a group of House Republicans to give up their push for a bill that would slash payments to the United Nations and limit aid to Egypt, Pakistan and the Palestinian Authority, among other groups.
Clinton said in a letter Tuesday that she would urge President Barack Obama to veto the bill if it passes in both houses of Congress because the measure “would be debilitating to my efforts to carry out a considered foreign policy and diplomacy, and to use foreign assistance strategically to that end,” The Washington Post reported.
The bill cleared the House Foreign Affairs Committee last week in an effort to cut $6.4 billion from the president’s request for $51 billion in foreign aid for 2012. While it has the potential to pass the GOP-controlled House, it’s seen as unable to get through the Democrat-led Senate.
Advertise On YWN » The bill would impose “onerous restrictions” on State Department operations and foreign aid, Clinton wrote, and the “severe curtailing” of dues payments to international groups including the UN and the Organization of American States would be damaging.
The legislation’s proposal to block funding to countries that don’t meet corruption standards “has the potential to affect a staggering number of needy aid recipients,” as do proposals to restrict aid to Egypt, Lebanon, Yemen and the Palestinian Authority. The bill would only allow the flow of money to those countries if the Obama administration was able to certify that no members of terror groups or their sympathizers were serving in their governments.
Brad Goehner, a spokesman for Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), the chairwoman of the House committee, told the Post that the letter was “disappointing, particularly given the current debt crisis, that the Obama administration is fighting to keep sending taxpayer money to foreign organizations and governments that undermine U.S. interests.

There is no way the Obama Administration can make such an certification.

Hezbollah now controls the Lebanese government.
Any taxpayer funding of these goverments is the same as funding terrorism.

Pay these foreign countries, but be sure to cut Medicare and SS to the old people in America that worked all their lives for this country.

I say we stop ALL AID and yes that even means our beloved Israel. We are in deep trouble so Israel should understand that this is not the best time to help out friends. Can you imagine giving money to friends month after month while you are suffering in deep personal debt. We’ll one day you tell your friend, “Sorry but I can’t keep giving you money until I pay down my bills.” The friend will most likely understand and support you.
We can cut them off at the knees come Jan. 2013! Let them BEG and act in OUR interests if they want OUR money!

No, we and Israel are a mutual benefit. Stick them under defense spending and cut the rest - because when the poop impacts the rotating device they will be one of our only friends. They are worth it for a thousand reasons. Most of the others, not so much.

I understand people saying ‘cut them too’ but when you get down to it as I said in a recent post, Israel gets not only the full brunt of Muslim Jew hatred, but they have been repeatedly been attacked because the Muzzies can’t easily hit us directly. So they get the violence instead of us. Saddam proved that in Desert Storm and Iran proves it with their ongoing threats to Israel if ‘we’ attack them over Nukes.
Israel has taken a lot of the lumps intended foe America over the years and we have a moral obligation to them because of that. Plus, they are our true allies in every way that matters. Then there’s treaties, tech/medical exchange and more.
The Paulites and other ‘defund Israel’ types really need to look at the situation in that light.

The Egyptian Army runs Egypt now. Just as the military has run Egypt since King Farouk was overthrown in 1952. The frontmen change from time to time but the power base remains the same.
Cankles should be more worried about supeonas to learn how involved she was in gunrunner than giving money we don’t have to muslims.
