Well, Eagles kicker David Akers tested free agency and was signed by the 49ers. He'll be missed. The picture below is a billboard ad he took out in Philadelphia.A real class act.I hope the Eagles certainly have a sufficient replacement for his consistent performance.

Awesome guy who started losing his edge towards the end. One of the few kickers in the NFL who had fans sporting his jersey.

He’s a class act.

Knowing Philly fans, somebody will tag it.

Greatest kicker we ever had. Jeffrey Lurie, don’t let anyone else wear #2!

And he’s coming to MY TEAM!

The 49ers are beginning to look salvageable under Harbaugh/Baalke.

As a Cowboys fan I hated the guy, but I respect his talent. His gesture was pure class. Now that he is out of the NFC East he is an even classier guy!

With Alex Smith, the 49ers may not reach .500, especially with no time to learn Harbaugh’s complicated offense or Vic Fazio’s defensive schemes. So I don’t think they do well this year.

Next year either we will know that Alex is coach-able or Kaepernick with be the starting QB, to go along with an offense than can execute the West Coast Offense under Harbaugh.

The future looks very bright, but patience is needed. I see a solid 49ers vs. Rams rivalry 3 years from now.

I was just having a litle fun with you..(G)

What could be interesting..now that under the new CB, the NFL has a rookie salary cap, could Andrew Luck attempt to pull an Eli Manning and force a trade to SF before the draft...I'm sure he'd love to stay in the Bay area and play for Harbaugh..since $$$ isn't an issue anymore...it'd be a question of just how much SF would be willing to give up, in players of draft choices..it may depend on whom has the first pick next year..if they already have a good QB..a deal could happen..you may well end up having a rooting insterest in all those teams athat are 3-10 in the last month of the season...

That is an interesting take on it.

I will go out on a very thin limb and say that the 49ers are not going to go far in pursuing A. Luck. I think Harbaugh believes that he can find and develop quarterbacks so as much as he would LOVE to be reunited with Luck, who is indeed a special talent, I think Harbaugh is just as happy to develop Kaepernick and if a more talented QB is available via draft the next few years, he will go that way.

Joe Montana was a 3rd round pick. Walsh saw what others missed in him and then developed him into arguably the finest NFL QB in the history of the sport. Arguably.

Harbaugh has faith in his ability do something similar. I’m not expecting another Montana in my lifetime, but I mean to say that Harbaugh will not let the 49ers give away the farm to pursue A. Luck. He is assembling a good young core team and he will be adding to it via draft, year after year.

Not that he wouldn’t be thrilled to have A. Luck. Like Harbaugh said, “Do we need a top flight quarterback? Do human beings need air to breathe?”

Is Fred Akers his father? Fred was a kicker in college.

Agree...and don't forget that Tom Brady was a 6th round pick..

OTOH, assume ( and not unreasonably) that Carolina finishes last again..and thus gets the first pick...now, the LAST thing the Panthers need is a QB...so they'd definitely be willing to trade the pick..you could get LUCK(y)...LOL

I suspect that some of those "meaningless" end of season games will be watched very, VERY carefully..

It's ALL about the timing.. I'm a lifelong JETS fan..my dad first got season tickets, back when I was in HS, when then AFL started..they were the NY TITANS, and played in the old Polo Grounds..what a dump..then at Shea..and of course, darn, in 1969..the ONE year they won it all..I was overseas in the Marines..got to hear it on AF radio..as well as the Mets and the Knicks..gawd..1969 was an amazing year..I took over the tickets in 1986..and had them until 2006..when I moved to Florida..gave them to my sons-in-law..they dropped them when the Jets moved into the new stadium, because they couldn't afford the PSLs...

So now I go to Bucs games here in Tampa..which aren't even sold out...no local TV last year...get great seats for the games I was to see..about 3-4 a year with no problem...You can get seats for a Bucs game that are CHEAPER than what it costs to PARK the car at a Jets game..

it always amuses me how some FReepers trot out the same tired old incorrect stereotypes about philly fans, then can go on another thread and express disgust at the media for doing the same about conservatives.

When you build courtrooms in your football stadium, you’ve confirmed every stereotype about fan behavior.

Well, as a former Jets fan, thanks for giving us Braylon Edwards. We need him badly with Crabtree being fragile.

There are definitely huge financial advantages to living away from a big expensive city. I know many San Franciscans who boast about all they can do in the city but never have the money to do it.

Good point. Apparently the stadium court setup was only at the Vet. LFF doesn’t have it.
