Proudly posting without reading the article . . . BUT this sure looks like the administration’s response to the Atlanta (and coming soon to a big city near you) Cheating Scandal.

So, if your school failed, you can get a waiver not to take it next time, right?

To be followed next year, no doubt, with a triumphal press release about how average scores have soared since all of the failing schools were removed from the program.

If we are this stupid as a nation, it is because the bulk of us were educated in public schools.

Grammar schools and high schools throughout Germany now had National Socialist teachers of questionable ability forming young minds in strict adherence to the Party motto: "The supreme task of the schools is the education of youth for the service of Volk and State in the National Socialist spirit." They taught Nazi propaganda as truth and had their young students recite it back from memory.

snip

Nazi scientists, educated before Hitler, complained they were hindered in developing new super-weapons by the recruitment of graduates from the Nazified school system. German Army leaders also complained that young officer candidates displayed "a simply inconceivable lack of elementary knowledge."

They didn't even know enough to capitalize the first letter of a proper name. But for Hitler, these shortcomings really didn't matter. The school system now produced what he needed – unquestioning young men ready to obediently serve the Fatherland unto death amid Nazi slogans such as: Believe, Obey, Fight!

Oh yeah, hot on the heels of the Atlanta "cheatgate" scandal...

Last month, 178 teachers and principals at 44 Atlanta public schools were found to be responsible for, or directly involved in, cheating on the state's standardized test, according to a report issued by the Georgia governor's office following an extensive investigation.

What a coinky-dink...

I guess schools can deem its students as graduated. There could be an opportunity here to end public schools. S/

That could help a bit with the deficit and debt. Unless those kids want to start drawing unemployment already.

So obama is giving waivers on his friend Ted Kennedy’s education bill. Makes sense. He’s handing out waivers on his own healthcare bill.

George Bush should come out with a statement. But he won’t. obama is his friend.

You have to work first before unemployment checks arrive......unless a czar in the White Crib changed the rules or the boy king issued an executive order.

Being as this is “waivers”, the WH will be able to select which schools and districts are exempt. The criteria may be related to, say, demographics in certain areas. ?? If the local teachers unions send lots of money for the campaign, their schools might get “waivers”.

Where does the education secretary get the authority to exempt schools from a law passed by the legislative branch? Is this written into the law?

Why am I not surprised? When asked about the KCMO Public School District's failure (yet again) to meet the state accreditation requirements, Mayor Sly James said something along the lines that maybe it's time to reevaluate the standards. I'm not sure how many years it's been since the KCMOPSD has had state accreditation, but I believe it's been well over a decade.

This is the way the leftist mind works. Don't demand that people live up to minimum standards, it might hurt their feelings. So what if it just sets them up for failure: They'll feel good about themselves. It's just like when the army decided to issue black berets to everyone. Somebody thought, "hey, those guys in the black berets sure do have esprit d'corps, imagine what it would do for the entire army if EVERYONE wore black berets. Nobody seemed to have considered the fact that the guys wearing the black berets, The Rangers, might have additional pride because of their accomplishments, and not the fact that they were wearing the black berets.

Can't have a cheating scandal risking those cushy teacher union jobs if the schools have a waiver to avoid standardized testing!

Coincidence? I think not.

If voters would take back control of their schools from left leaning school boards and teachers’ unions, we wouldn’t need any federal testing mandates.

The left keeps whining about the the lack of parental involvement in the schools. I’m complaining about the lack of parental involvement in the school boards.

Parents need to take back control of the schools and change the direction of public education. Put the focus back on providing quality education for ALL students and educating EVERY student to the highest level of their ability.

Challenge ALL students to excel, not just aim for mediocrity. Education should not be another form of redistribution.

From 2001- to 2007 - Funding tied to NCLB received a 40.4% increase from $17.4 billion in 2001 to $24.4 billion.

So, did we just save 24.4 billion dollars ? <*s off>
