Obama Compares His 'Suffering' to Martin Luther King Jr.
Brian Koenig ^ | 8/13/11 | Brian Koenig

Posted on 08/13/2011 11:29:02 AM PDT by Freemarkets101

While whining about his incessant criticism from conservatives and Tea Partiers at a fundraiser in Manhattan on Friday night, Obama played the MLK card. Indeed, he compared his suffering to Martin Luther King Jr.'s suffering. From Politcker:

Standing in Weinstein’s basement, Obama said his troubles are like the ones facing Cuomo.

“When I ran in 2008, I think that a lot of folks believed we elect Obama and suddenly we’re going to fix politics in Washington,” Obama said. “And Andrew is familiar with this, because everybody figures, well, we’re going to fix politics in Albany.”

“And then it turns out that there are a lot of bad habits that have been built up over time, and we’re also a big, diverse country and not everybody agrees with me; not everybody agrees with the folks who live in Manhattan,” he said, drawing laughter from the rich celebrities that filled the room. “West of here,” he said. “You guys may not be familiar with it.”

The comparison was something of a stretch. Obama is struggling to recharge the national economy amid an increasingly deadlocked capitol split along party lines, while Cuomo, for his part, isn’t struggling much.

He passed a budget without raising taxes or destroying social service programs, and passed a landmark bill legalizing same-sex marriage, turning the state government in Albany from “dysfunctional” to hyperactive, in under seven months. (Cuomo attended the fundraiser as an invited guest, and did not pay, according to a source.)

Before leaving, Obama likened himself to one more figure. Martin Luther King, Jr.

“I think that we forget when he was alive there was nobody who was more vilified, nobody who was more controversial, nobody who was more despairing at times,” he said.

If I'm not mistaken Mr. President, MLK was assassinated. I'm thinking your "suffering" isn't even in the same league.

Well, when one - or more - deals with and becomes a puppet for socialism/communism, you have to expect some blowback if you try it in America.

Wonder who obama will equate himself with next?

What is the writers point - MLK wasn’t the president of the “whole” United States of America...and I’m not sure if he was a socialist like the current present_dent. So....what! It’s his policies, not the color of his skin.

Sarah Palin has received exactly the same - Check that, Sarah Palin has received worse for the media than MLK — Am I wrong.

Great point! Barry needs to learn to man up and stop his whining. If he had to endure the beating that Sarah and her family have been taking, he'd be in a nursing home right now. Man up and deal with it Barry! You're acting very unpresidential! I don't remember ever hearing President George W. Bush whine about the beating he was taking from the commie libs while he was in office. Time to cowboy up! You're not in Kenya or Indonesia anymore!

I’d like to see obammy do a little time on a rack.
See him streached about 6 inches for some REAL suffering. Either that or maybe have him work on a wet tar roof job for two or three days here in S.E. Florida in August for some real suffering.

He wants us to visualize Obama in chains, shuffling along as he totes a heavy bundle, and singing “Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen".

In reality he is sitting in a mansion in Martha's vineyard enjoying another vacation on the taxpayers dime.

You got that right. MLC was a great man and a natural leader of men. The obambat is a miserable excuse for a man and has no qualities of leadership. The citizens on both the right and left of our country agree on only one thing. Obama has failed miserably as president.

I can’t wait for his next book which will be written during a period of seclusion after his loss in 2012 called “My struggle” where he outlines how a certain group of people inside the country are getting in the way of the greatest possible awakening of American power.

I hate to be a myth buster, but, MLK Jr. was NOT a Republican. He campaigned heavily for LBJ and had communist advisors who Robert Kennedy even warned him about. People have parroted this myth for many years, and it just isn’t true. He was also into socialism big time. No, MLK was NOT a Republican.

King was under FBI surveillance for several years (until he died) due to his ties with communist organizations throughout the country. King accepted money from the organizations to fund his movements. In return, King had to appoint communist leaders to run certain districts of his SCLC (Southern Christian Leadership Conference), who then could project their communist ideas to larger audiences. A federal judge in the 60’s ruled that the FBI files on King’s links to communism to remain top-secret until 2027. Senator Jesse Helms appealed to the Supreme Court in 1983 to release the files, so the current bill in the Senate to create the Martin Luther King Federal Holiday could be abolished. He was denied.

4. One of King’s closest friends, Rev. Ralph Abernathy, wrote a book in 1989 in which he talked about King’s obsession with white prostitutes. King would often use church donations to have drunken sex parties, where he would hire two to three white prostitutes, occasionally beating them brutally. This has also been reported by the FBI agents who monitored King. King was married with four children.

And this Wash Post article in 2006 says King actually voted for LBJ in 1964. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/18/AR2006101801754.html
In fact, in “The Autobiography of Martin Luther King, Jr.,” which was published after King’s death from his written material and records, King called the 1964 Republican national convention that nominated Goldwater a “frenzied wedding ... of the KKK and the radical right.”

One giant difference - Martin Luther King was genuine.

Actually, MLK was an opportunist who put people, including children, in danger in order to advance his agenda. Long before that March in Birmingham in which lame duck Bull Conner set dogs and fire hoses on marchers that included small children, MLK was warned by a wide number of people of what was likely to happen. He ignored that advice and deliberately put people in danger. People like to claim that it was the spectacle of the Birmingham march that led to the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill. It was the support of the Republicans that led to the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill, in spite of Southern Democrat opposition. There was long-ongoing legislative and judicial proceedings that inevitably would have led to at least the same beneficial outcomes of desegregation. Instead, MLK's lack of care led to a spectacle that gave the impression that mob action was what got results and paved the way for even more public demonstrations with even greater destabilization of society. We have Barry Obama in the White House and misery pimps like Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson and religious bigots like Rev. Wright and Louis Farrakhan living off the legacy of mob action.
