Gov. Rick Perry Admits to Being For Open Borders
EllisCountyO.com ^ | February 26, 2010

Posted on 08/16/2011 8:11:46 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

The full context of the paragraph, as well as the speech, can be found below:

President Fox’s vision for an open border is a vision I embrace, as long as we demonstrate the will to address the obstacles to it. An open border means poverty has given way to opportunity, and Mexico’s citizens do not feel compelled to cross the border to find that opportunity. It means we have addressed pollution concerns, made substantial progress in stopping the spread of disease, and rid our crossings of illicit drug smuggling activity. Clearly we have a long way to go in addressing those issues. At the same time we must continue to deepen our economic ties, expanding opportunities for Mexican and U.S. companies to do business on both sides of the border. The outlook is promising, even if the road to prosperity is a long one. We share a bond as neighbors, and we find our culture north of the Rio Grande to be increasingly defined by the strong traits of people of Hispanic descent. Texas has long enjoyed a unique identity, an identity forged by an independent spirit, and the convergence of many different peoples. We must welcome change in the 21st Century as we have in every century before it.

What’s wrong with simply posting what Perry has said?

Could there be a difference between the “open border” Rick Perry describes in which both countries work together to solve problems faced by both and the BROKEN border we now have?

With all due respect, do you mean that Perry did NOT make that speech, and that the poster is lying? If it indeed is from ten years ago, has Perry gone on record changing his opinion since then?

This is the truth. One he can’t get away from. He said it.

A killer diller for me.

I do not want an open borders candidate.

Nothing. But this thread has nothing to do with what Perry has said.

It’s all about SoCon’s lame attempts to dig up old dirt on Perry and stir up agit-prop on FR.

SoCon is to Rick Perry as Pissant was to Sarah Palin. As Chet 99 was to pitbulls.

SoCon is putting on a helluva show. Too bad it won’t end well for him.

Well, so much for Perry.

Like 2008, the Republican Establishment wants a candidate who will not bring up the immigration issue. And like McCain, it will give Obama a free ride on the issue which would be the tie breaker in the coming election.

Americans don’t want amnesty (75%); don’t want birth citizenship; don’t want citizenship as a reward for law-breakers; and don’t want employers violating laws and avoiding taxes with illegals.

Republicans in the ruling class want cheap labor; want easy profits for their Chamber of Commerce cronies who write all Republican immigration laws; want open borders and off-shoring.

The MSM and pundits want a weak Republican who will guarantee an Obama win by demoralizing the potential campaign workers and contributors with a RINO candidate.

In the last campaign, Obama’s people were everywhere, visiting neighborhoods multiple times.

McCain’s were nowhere, because nobody wanted to work for a guy who would stab them in the back on immigration, judicial appointments, defense necessities, and most conservative issues.

It is true that illegal immigration is but one of several existential issues facing America, along with the economy/jobs, collapsing national security, and uncontrolled debt and spending. But it is a litmus test for these Republicans. If they follow the open borders/amnesty call of the party elites, they will show their contempt for the American people, best exemplified by the Tea Party.

If the elites get their guy again, like a Romney or Perry, the conservative majority in this nation will sit this one out again.
