If the Christian has no assurance that God will triumph from the way the world appears to be going, one would be better off hedging one’s bets by siding with the Devil or sitting the whole thing out all together. There are those that attempt to do just that.

Atheism is the worldview that believes that God does not exist. Those embracing this perspective tend to do so over both objective and existential reasons.

Those claiming to embrace Atheism for objective reasons often concentrate their attacks on the more scientific approaches to the existence of God such as the cosmological argument. The cosmological argument for the existence of God holds that all contingent things must have a cause and that this cause is at the minimum Aristotle’s Uncaused Cause and preferably the God of the Christian faith as expounded by Aquinas when he adapted these propositions for Christian usage. Atheists raise their hands and say hold on a moment to what they see as presumptuous conclusions.

From the Christian perspective, since God exists beyond what we perceive as time, He is sufficient or necessary to jumpstart the universe and get the temporal ball rolling. However, the Atheist has no metaphysical problem with an infinite chain of causality. Yet the laws of thermodynamics might dictate otherwise as these fundamental principles of physics hold that there is only a finite amount of energy available within a closed system.

So even though the Atheist may not have an intellectual objection to a material universe that is infinitely old, such an assumption smashes eventually against the hard wall of reality. However, seldom has that ever stopped anyone adamant about adhering to their favored delusions no matter what the evidence might say.

Well, if nothing else, Atheism is absolute proof of man’s capacity to believe in the invisible...

"However, the Atheist has no metaphysical problem with an infinite chain of causality"

I guess I'd like a citation for this assertion. Just because a person chooses not embrace a deity does not mean he embraces an "infinite chain of causality" . Cool strawman argument though

Very interesting article. Thanks for posting it.

It would seem that most Atheists ‘become’ so after some calamity in their life or someone near to them, because God didn’t reach down from heaven and interfere.

They are missing the point that God gave Mankind(Adam) free will. Doing so ‘allowed’ mankind to NOT believe in him, which really pissed the angelic hosts off.

God set ‘the world’ in motion, so to speak, and mankind having free will means that some men will do unspeakable things. In order to create a world with life, God had to set up a world with ‘creation’ and ‘destruction’. He actually ‘created’ the destruction first, believe it or not. We are part of Earth, and subject to that creation and destruction. Without both, life could not have continued to exist for very long. We see death as an ‘end’ to things when it is really a necessary part of ‘life’ itself.

So... atheists who argue the issue about God not existing because he doesn’t ‘interfere’ with mankind, have missed the point entirely.

And whether you are GOOD or BAD, God does not act to help or stop you. If he did, that would presume he made a ‘judgement’. The ‘judgement’ time has not come, and does not come, at least, while you are still alive.

God loves us, not because we are GOOD, but because GOD is GOOD.

Every Atheist I’ve ever met is really just an anti-Christian.

I recall when they did away with school prayer because of that lowlife Madeline Murray O’Hare. Our high school instituted the morning `minute of silence’ and even played inspirational music over the P.A. (even that’s been banned now, FTACLU!).

Anyway, one student named Jacobs asked the homeroom teacher what was he supposed to do during the minute of silence. “Oh, just pray quietly to yourself,” the teacher replied.

So this guy bowed his head, joined his hands, and said in a loud whisper, “O great and glorious and wonderful Jacobs, hear my prayer!”

;^)
