LA Mayor Calls for Repeal of Prop 13
A Semi-News/Semi-Satire from AzConservative ^ | 20 August 2011 | John Semmens

Posted on 08/21/2011 4:37:44 PM PDT by John Semmens

Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa called for the state legislature to repeal California’s Proposition 13. Prop 13, the People’s Initiative to Limit Property Taxation, was enacted by voters in 1978. It restricts property taxes to 1% of full cash value and limits increases to 2% a year.

“It’s time for progressive to start thinking and acting big,” Villaraigosa said. “The government needs money. People who can afford to own property have more money than they need. We shouldn’t let a vote taken over 30 years ago stop us from extracting some of this excess wealth from property owners.”

Villaraigosa contrasted his “forward looking” approach to that of the “reactionary ideologues in the Tea Party,” and demanded that Democrats in Sacramento “act before it is too late.” “After the 2012 election the enemies of progressive policies may have the upper hand,” Villaraigosa warned. “If Republicans win, as seems likely, the assets and incomes of taxpayers may be out of our reach for a generation. We must make an effort to grab them now while we still have the chance.”

Even Gavin Newsom has had the good political sense to feint rightward in this economy.

Viagra-osa, I at least give him credit for being up-front: HELLO! I’M GONNA TAX YOU EVEN MORE!! VOTE FOR ME!

It’s only semi-satirical.

Mexification is what Tony counts on for his future political career which he hopes will unite Alto and Baja California under the same red/green/white flag (with red, white and blue financial benefits from the Gringos).

I envy those like you who've escaped Hotel California. But the "escape" is only temporary because Mexification is rapidly going national.

It’s satire, people.

Satire and reality have a way of looking strikingly similar.

Yeah, I left SoCal in 1993...still have siblings living in the People’s Republic of CA though. They are more or less stuck there.

Tony Villar is a reconquista.

Repealing Prop 13 would initiate an exodus of anglos from CA, advancing that end.

Simple.

Let’s tell the idiot mayor that we will give him more money when learns how to manage it. What a liberal fool. ( Please excuse the redundancy).

He fails to recognize that many are paying mortgages that, with steep property devaluation, can amount to nearly the value of the house. Push them on taxes and you will have another horendous bubble of defaults.

Prop 13 is unfair in the sense that it penalizes homeowners who have more recently acquired their homes. New homeowners should be able to pay the same, low property tax rates that people who bought homes 30 years ago are able to pay.
