One thing most Democrats will never understand is the dedication that our men and women in uniform have for their country. They make fun of people who want to live their lives by a certain code with snide remarks in movies like A Few Good Men. But the fact is, it takes people who are willing to live by the code: Duty, Honor, Country in order to keep our nation free.
The brave men of the 3rd Infantry Regiments Old Guard know a thing or two about this. These disciplined, brave men have stood watch over the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier every day since 1948 regardless of conditions.
Irene’s there and so is the ‘Old Guard”....ping
I went to see the tomb while on a trip to D.C. a few years ago. I got all the info about these soldiers. They struck me as just unreal, each with a 29” waist, can’t drink alcohol during their lifetime, and so on and so on.
It takes a hell of a person!
I was flat impressed, still am.
During their lifetime? I think you mean while they are detached to the Old Guard.
“During their lifetime? I think you mean while they are detached to the Old Guard.”
That IS what is stated as required - DURING THEIR LIFETIME. How is that enforced? That’s another question.
That’s an old wives tale. They can drink even when they’re attached to that unit. See the attached link...
It won’t be long before traditions such as this are challenged, arguing that, such reverence for the dead is necessarily religious in nature, therefore, unconstitutional. Our most sacred national monuments, such as Arlington National Cemetery, is the prize. Cases like Inspirational Point and others is just a way to get there.
Someone should send this picture to Barry because I don’t think he knows what HDC looks like.
“Thats an old wives tale.”
I was in D.C. in 2008. The drinking rule was one of the orders I was told about; all things considered, I think I will believe what they said. Thanks for your response.
