The hope and change hangover
Washington Examiner ^ | 8-28-11 | Hugh Hewitt

National excess, like individual overindulgence, leads to uncomfortable aftereffects and even deeply painful ones.

The "hope and change hangover" the country is experiencing is 100 percent the consequence of the policies adopted in 2007 and 2008 by President Obama in concert with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid.

Even the recession bequeathed to this trio of massive spenders combined with the dire consequences of the Panic of 2008 did not oblige the country to struggle through the dreariest recovery in modern times.

This is an Obama-made becalming of the economic waters, an inevitability when Obamacare, the Dodd-Frank Wall Street reforms, an out-of-control federal regulatory blob consisting of the Environmental Protection Agency, Consumer Product Safety Commission, Department of Interior and more, combined with massive deficits to create the perfect storm for the private sector.

Amity Shlaes described in her magnificent "The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression" how President Franklin Roosevelt and his group of political operatives and academic theorists prolonged the terrible times brought on by the Crash of 1929 by endless "innovation."

The uncertainty that resulted drove capital and the entrepreneurs who might have deployed it underground. Unpredictable government was a menace to private-sector planning and investment, but this fundamental truth eluded Roosevelt.

This administration and the cataclysm they have wrought bring to light the failure of their election M.O., that of inventing some ‘crisis’ during the election cycle that was perpetrated upon the general populace by the evil Republicans. Only the Democrats and their sheer genius can possibly save us from certain disaster. This one caught up to them and is in the process of swallowing them. Unfortunately the democratic party will survive for there are plenty of willful idiots, blind ideologues and sheeple to resuscitate this has-been of a party.

Mr. Hewitt needs a fact checker ... despite the incredible damage done by Obama, he wasn’t President in 2007 - or 2008 for that matter.

” - - - Unpredictable government was a menace to private-sector planning and investment, but this fundamental truth eluded Roosevelt. “

Not so! FDR knew exactly what he was doing. He never worked a day in his life, and he wanted the USA to have the same work ethic. Hence, his NEW DEAL.

Yes indeedy! Protegee LBJ continued the NEW DEAL with his Great Society. The great destruction had begun. The Federal Government has not been “ unpredictable ,” and we owe it all to ourselves for electing FDR.

Not much eluded FDR. Nope, he had it figured just right : REGULATE, CONTROL, AND DESTROY.

Like FDR, Professor You Lie has been a very effective leader for “Change.”

Ah, yes! I can remember Professor You Lie giving his inaugural speech and those prophetic words wafting over the huddled masses : “ At this very moment, CHANGE is coming to America”

Sure can’t say that this bozo doesn’t deliver on his basic promise!
