Apparently Obama plans to honor NASCAR playoff champion Jimmie Johnson and 11 other drivers in a White House ceremony next week, but five of the 2010 playoff contenders are skipping out. Ouch.
"(SB Nation) NASCAR said Thursday that five drivers Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, Carl Edwards, Kevin Harvick and Tony Stewart will not be attending the White House visit due to schedule conflicts.
They must be very busy people. Regardless of ones political views, the president is still the president and an opportunity to speak with the leader of the free world is a rare and special one.
Youd think whatever photo shoots or sponsor appearances these drivers have lined up on Wednesday afternoon if thats indeed the reason could be rescheduled. After all, this is the President of the United States were talking about here.
For a sport that prides itself on patriotism, having so many drivers turn down the presidents invitation simply seems strange.
Johnson, Denny Hamlin, Jeff Gordon, Kyle Busch, Clint Bowyer, Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth will attend."
When the President is going after NASCAR drivers you know he is desperate for votes. After all, which demographics holds the majority of NASCAR fans? Midwest, gun-toting white men - the voter base President Obama doesn't like, but has to pretend to like to win another term.
So I think we all know what happens next: "Those white bigoted racists are too good to shake hands with a black president?" Yes Mr. Sharpton and Mr. Jackson, just as racist as you would be if you declined such an offer from good old George W.
I recently had the opportunity to attend the White House Correspondents Dinner. I refused. I would never want to have to tell my children and one day grandchildren that I entered the White House while that man was desecrating it with his Marxist assault on America.

“They must be very busy people. Regardless of ones political views, the president is still the president”
BULLSH!T! He is NOT my president... and he never will be!
LLS
“... and an opportunity to speak with the leader of the free world is a rare and special one. “
But, indeed, they wouldn’t be speaking to a leader, so why go?
Have the ‘rats caled them racist yet?
Obama is President of liberal elites.
Oh, Please, I wouldn't cross the street to be in the same room with this skinny phony . . . He'd probably show up on his girls' bike! Until this pipsqueak phony gets out of our White House, there'd be no reason to go there.
Time for another beer summit??
You go, Dudes! Good on ya!
.
As a compromise, our guys could pretend to go to the White House
Maybe they have a tee time on Martha’s Vineyard.
BTTT
I had a chance for an insider’s tour of the White House in 1999 but I refused for much the same reasons, even though the occupant was not there that evening. My brother went. His standards aren’t as high.
I have no interest in NASCAR but I’m going to try to remember those 5 names and cheer for them.
Why should they, or attendees of the Republican debate have to reschedule for dumbo? He ain't the king, after all.
Seems to me that these five drivers are on the Right Track. I'll be cheering them on this season!
Rare, maybe. As to whether it is 'special', I'd say that's entirely a metter of personal opinion.
Two words: "Resume Stain"
Of course Johnson and Gordon will go. Their boss was pardoned by Obama’s Sec. of State’s husband.
I told him at the time that presented with that situation I would have REFUSED to shake Clinton's hand.
I would refuse today to shake Barack Obama’s hand. Not because he is Black, but because of his policies and beliefs which are totally opposite of my own. Just like Bill Clinton.
When I was in High School, I did shake Bobby Kennedy's hand. I was young and didn't know any better.
Good, NONE of them should attend.
They must be very busy people. Regardless of ones political views, the president is still the president
Horsecrap. This man acts no more presidential than I do.
He is using them as props to try to appeal to the good ole boys...as such, they have every right to refuse to be a party to it. Good for them.
One can only imagine what the “man with the armband” was thinking when this photo was taken.
am I over the edge?.....probably..
I shook Ronald Reagan’s hand in 1976. It’s probably about time to wash it.
"Why should I vote, the people who run thangs ain't on them ballots"
I would like the well dressed whores who parade around as candidates have to wear NASCAR like suits full of decals naming their pimps.
Remember the NASCAR junket the DNC tried to hold? The one where the memo was leaked about needing inoculations to go to the race?
Desperate indeed..
The important thing to remember is that he was not the monster we know when that picture was taken - at least, evidence was scant and likely not to be believed by most.
People forget that even Caligula was a cute little baby at one time.
Another example of the slow slow slow Obama team. When did Jimmy Johnson win his 5th Sprint cup? Last November! O’s a little backed up from vacations I guess. Anybody that turns down an Obama invitation has my admiration though.
you know, there was a time that everyone at least respected certain people....like teachers...you always respected teachers....the teacher was always right and you know your parents would side with the teacher...
and police....used to be all cops were looked up to as heros....now, we question them...and they do deserve to be questioned...
democrats used to at least have a modicum of integrity and earned respect...they at least tried to represent the little people...the workers...the soldier....
but now what do we have?....
"playoff"?
WTF?
NASCAR is probably the wrong sport for this A-hole to go kissing up to for votes.
And why should they give dumb excuses? "Scheduling" - Sheeesh.
Just say, "I wouldn't shake that man's hand with a gun to my head" and be done..
The most patriotic thing they could have done, and they did it. Good for them!
The only one authorized by the Constitution (20th Amendment) to “act as President” at this point is (maybe) Joe Biden - and that’s only if the electoral vote certification is still legally valid even though it didn’t fulfill the legal requirements since Dick Cheney did not ask if there were any objections to the states’ electoral votes.
“For a sport that prides itself on patriotism,”
They did the right thing!
—For a sport that prides itself on patriotism, having so many drivers turn down the presidents invitation simply seems strange.—
I would say the exact opposite:
For a sport that prides itself on patriotism, having so many drivers **accept** the presidents invitation simply seems strange.
Pretend to go to the White House to visit a pretend President...
Sounds like Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac - turning pretend mortgages into pretend stock shares to be bought and sold with pretend, fiat money.
Lotta pretending going on these days.
Regardless of ones political views, the president is still the president
Matter of opinion.
Many believe he is the resident not President
Many see him as destroying America.
But we still have the freedom to choose our associations in America.................
The five “delinee’s” have moved to the top of my NASCAR favorite drivers. I suspect that the old timers (like Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt Sr., etc.) would not attend an event held by a Kenyan/Indonesian Usurper Socialist Dictator, either.
The blogger can’t count. There are 12 who were invited.
Didn't Jeff Burton consider running for congress as a democrat?
The Jack Roush & the boys did a lot of appearances in the midwest supporting Bush in 04.

I haven’t picked a new favorite since Davey Allison died....looks like I might have a list to choose from.
Does Jack Roush owe anything to George Bush for a pardon the way Rick Hendrick is beholden to Bill Clinton?
There have been presidents from both parties that I found disappointing, to put it mildly. There have been presidents from both parties whom I considered a disgrace to the office. Obama is the first occupant of our White House who crosses the line so that I will not refer to him by any job title higher than "former junior US Senator from Illinois" or "community-organizer-in-chief". The communist thug in our White House is a disgrace to the Democrat Party, which I would not have thought possible considering the phenomenally low standards set by so many of today's Dems.
The bottom line: "the president is still the president" but is the drug-addled bigot in our White House deserving of the title he has claimed after SEIU counted votes from his dead and fictional supporters and screened out votes from the real Americans who wanted a qualified American to lead America?
AFAIK Jack has never been convicted of any crimes.
(as likely to be reported by CNN)...in other news, Obama is basking in his 69% approval rate among NASCAR drivers.
