Serious question: can the supposedly-very-smart Mayor Michael Bloomberg really be this foolish, or is there something else at work? Commenting on the outbreak of gun violence in NYC over the Labor Day weekend, in which 42 people were injured or killed, Bloomberg uttered [at least according to this report] not a word of condemnation directed toward the criminals themselves. Instead, the Big Appler blamed only the proliferation of guns and called for "stricter gun control laws".
What is it that drives liberals to condemn the instruments of crime, rather than the criminals themselves? Bloomberg quote after the jump.

I guess that guns have this magic, demonic power that overcomes normally decent, law-abiding citizens and turns them into mad dog killers. Right.
Bloomberg has definitely gotten himself in a bind in this gun stuff ~ he was out there engaging in straw purchases himself ~ we'll see this ol'boy in prison before it's over Fur Shur.
Guns are evil, terrible things. I used to have to keep them locked in a dark closet. And then I lost them all in a tragic boating accident. But I still laugh at their pitiful cries for help.
I think it was the vitriol and heated rhetoric from the union thugs that caused it. I’m sure Sheriff Dipstik would agree with me.

His comment is worse than you imagine. He said that guns had to be kept out of the hands of kids who don’t understand the value of human life. His problem is guns when he admits that graduates of his schools,where I taught for 25 yrs, do not understand the value and importance of human life.An indictment of everything progressive in America.
I have a 45. auto sitting next to me where I can reach it (old man, always put in safe when grandkids visit) and it has sat there all weekend and not shot anybody. Suppose its defective???

I recently spent some time with a MD who works the ER at a major urban trauma center.
He said there are three phrases almost always uttered by gunshot victims which are almost always false:
“I got no idea who did this”
“I was just minding my own business”
“There’s no drugs in my system”
I’d like to see a breakdown - - who shot who...
