After Lenin seized power in the USSR in 1917, he instituted a repressive policy of seizing industry, farms, banks and almost all productive enterprises (without compensation), a policy called War Communism (essentially communism as we know it today). It was an unmitigated disaster. There were famines, diseases and a general breakdown in production. Because of these failures, in 1921 he ordered a major change called the New Economic Policy (NEP) which allowed significant private ownership for small business and gave peasants a share of their output. This rapidly improved the economy that had been devastated by WWI and his earlier policies. I am definitely not a fan of Lenin, but he had the wisdom to realize his original policies were unworkable.
With the miserable failure of President Obamas jobs program in the past two and a half years, will he have the courage of Lenin to admit his policies are a mistake?...

Yeah, and what happened to the NEP after Stalin took over?
He will call it the Great Leap Forward
Lenin just did this to stay in power. He had already gone eight steps forward, he could go back one or two by doing that.
Communists are communists. The leaders rarely change their stripes. They don’t want to give up the perks of their power. They think they’re better than everyone else and are the leaders who will change things from socialism to communism (although in their hearts they know this can’t happen because those in power will not give up their power as communism says will happen.)
Failing? His agenda is moving right along as planned!
Exactly to plan.
It was the Communist plan in 1934. It is 0bamas Communist plan today.
Shirley, you jest.
Excellent Post! Thanks!
Lenin assured skeptical comrades that, despite their fears of the NEP being a backwards move, the communists still controlled the ‘commanding heights’ of the economy (i.e. steel, mining, etc). Obama wants everything from banks and autos to the mini-market down the street under his thumb.
Answer:
Stalin killed the program, collectivized all agriculture, starved the Kulaks (farm landholders)in Ukraine — 8 million of them, sent dissenters to Siberian gulags, conspired with Hitler to swallow Poland starting WWII, murdered the Polish intelligencia at the Katyn Forest, purged his regime and military, convicting them in kangaroo courts and executing them. And oh, he started the first of his five year plans.
And he never looked back.
Lenin’s NEP? That was a long time ago. Trudeau’s NEP? That bankrupted Alberta and me. Otherwise I’d be starting to think about heading south in a couple of months for some sunshine and warm weather. Obama? FUBO.
