CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A man with an AK-47 assault rifle shot an entire group of five uniformed National Guard members eating breakfast at a Nevada IHOP on Tuesday, killing two of them and another person in a hail of gunfire.

CARSON CITY, Nev. A gunman wielding an AK-47 opened fire on a table of uniformed National Guard members at an IHOP restaurant on Tuesday in an outburst of violence that killed five people, wounded seven others and put Nevada's capital city on high alert.
Five Nevada National Guard troops sitting together at the back of the restaurant were shot three of them fatally. Another woman was also killed, and the gunman, 32-year-old Eduardo Sencion of Carson City, shot himself in the head and died at a hospital.
Obviously the perp is a right wing tea party conservative who was inflamed beyond reason by Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin. Time to bring civility back into our political discourse.
I have already been on the phone three times to newsrooms cautioning them on the “AK-47 automatic weapon” / “AK-47 assault weapon” crap.
1. Where does a man on social security disability get the money to buy an ak47?
2. Why does a man on social security disability work at a family business? What is that business?
3. Why does a Mexican with a US passport have a family with a business in the US wherein he works despite collecting social security disability?
4. Why did the AK47 target National Guardsmen (no longer any denying it. The guardsmen in one area (3 of 5?) were the major group among those killed.
Sencion was born in Mexico and had a valid U.S. passport. In interviews with investigators after the shooting, his family raised concerns about his mental health, Furlong said. Sencion worked at his family's business in South Lake Tahoe and had no criminal history. The minivan he drove to the shooting was registered to his brother.
The shooting shocked some who knew him, including Joe Laub, his lawyer in a bankruptcy filing in January 2009, who called it an "aberration of his character."
"He's a gentle, kind man who was very helpful to friends and family," Laub told The Associated Press. "I couldn't venture to guess what would cause him to do something as horrible as this."
In the bankruptcy filing, Sencion listed more than $42,000 in outstanding debts for a car, several credit cards and some medical expenses. At the time, Sencion reported having $200 spread over three bank accounts and $923 in disability income, mostly from Social Security.
I had not heard the shooter’s political views. Everything is not political. Some people are just seriously mentally ill.
Perhaps he was a part-time truck driver inflamed by Jimmy Hoffa Jr who thought Guardsmen were automatically members of the Tea Party.
Lord, comfort our Nation. Comfort our people Lord. Requesting Your wisdom to understand and prevent these attacks and Your strength to deal with all tragedies. Knowing You will give each of us wisdom and strength, if one only asks. In Jesus name. Amen.
“I had not heard the shooters political views. Everything is not political. Some people are just seriously mentally ill.”
Why assume the Associated Press tells us the whole truth and nothing but the truth?
He’s a Mexican on a US passport, who has filed bankruptcy, who collects appox $950 a month in social security disability, who has an AK47 (a soviet-style weapon), whose family owns an unknown business, whose normal name is eduardo sencion, and who targeted national guardsmen before committing suicide.
I know. I was being sarcastic.
Here’s another reasonable question, at least to my mind: How do we know the perp was, in fact, naturalized?
Don't know the guys Dx, but Paranoid Personality Disorder used to be more commonly diagnosed in immigrants.
And if he wasn’t naturalized, how the heck did he get a US passport?
There has been a serious news blackout on this matter since the press conference yesterday afternoon. No commentary on any news site nor most all blogs.
This by itself concerns me a great deal because the undercurrents here say something is amiss. Either the guy is somekind of nut, some kind of moocher on SSDI, some kind of fifth columnist, some kind of meth head, someone anti military or someone who went off due to extreme commentary by the left. What is it and why do we not have a hint to the correct answer.
He’s described in the things I’ve read as a “Mexican with a US passport.”
That’s an odd way of saying US citizen, so my evaluation was that he was not. If the he AP knows he is a US citizen, they’d be among the first to say that directly.
Ping to thread
per report at rgj ... Carson City Sheriff Kenny Furlong says Sencion was born in Mexico
I'm afraid it might be even worse.
Mexican with a US passport.
Obviously a non sequitor...my guess is he has a Visa and someone is misstating it to make him look like a citizen.
I don’t expect the government to explain any of this because if he is not a citizen, drawing SSDI is going to be hard to explain or if he has a passport, equally hard to explain.
We do know he had a drivers license and had purchased a car which was repoed out of bankruptcy...wonder how he got that car loan...fraud maybe there too. Too many lose ends here which are being swept up under the rug in our rush to not offend anyone or group.
Probably a registered dummocrat too.
Good find, nti. Thanks.
Now we know he’s a native-born Mexican.
1. He has credit cards. AK-47s are not expensive.
2. Disability allows you to have an income, but it sets limits on how much you can make without impacting your benefits. I would assume he was being paid under the table anyway.
I think I read in one of the articles that he’s in his early 30’s.
1. Why is a gun-capable guy in his early 30’s on social security disability?
2. He was definitely born after the time that weapons had to be registered. When was the AK47 registered, who bought it, where did they buy it
Officers converged on the south Carson shopping center which remained at a standstill all day and once they learned the address on the minivan registration, they raided a home on Jodi Lane where at least one of Sencion’s six brothers lives. From there they learned that Sencion lived with his parents in East Carson City on Truckee Street. A third home, on Greenbrier, was also searched, said Furlong.
As scores of law enforcement processed the crime scene at the restaurant, members of the FBI and Carson City Sheriff’s Office made their way through the three homes. Affidavits in support of search warrants in the case were sealed, said Assistant District Attorney Gerald Gardner.
Although Sencion was born in Mexico, Furlong said, he was in the U.S. legally.
He has a U.S. passport, the sheriff said.
According to family friend Francisco Rosales, Sencion’s family has lived in Carson City for at least a decade. Before that, they lived in South Lake Tahoe, Rosales said as he stood outside Sencion’s brother’s house on Jodi Lane. Rosales wanted to be by his friend Gilberto Sencion’s side after seeing Eduardo Sencion’s picture on the news. Instead, he was greeted by a Carson City sheriff’s deputy telling him no one was home.
I came right away to see if I could help with the kids, said Rosales.
He said that while he hadn’t spoken much with Eduardo Sencion, the family contains hard-working guys.
As for Eduardo, I noticed he was kind of slow, he said.
South Lake Tahoe Police Chief Brian Uhler said his department had contact with Sencion in April 2000 during a mental health commitment. According to Uhler, Sencion fought with police officers during the incident, but was not charged with a crime. Uhler declined to provided further details, saying the report of the incident has been turned over to Carson City investigators.
He said he knew of no other contacts between Sencion and South Lake Tahoe police since the incident 11 years ago.
Furlong said there is no record within the Carson City Sheriff’s Office of contact with Sencion other than three instances recently when he pawned items.
The shooting shocked some who knew him, including Joe Laub, his lawyer in a bankruptcy filing in January 2009, who called it an aberration of his character.
He’s a gentle, kind man who was very helpful to friends and family, Laub told The Associated Press. I couldn’t venture to guess what would cause him to do something as horrible as this.
In the bankruptcy filing, Sencion listed more than $42,000 in outstanding debts for a car, several credit cards and some medical expenses. At the time, Sencion reported having $200 spread over three bank accounts and $923 in disability income per month, mostly from Social Security.
Till the last shot’s fired ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9mYVfIgwqm0&feature=related ... say a prayer for peace.
Ted Bundy was a delightful and personable man, except for those times when he wasn't.
I have little cut outs of Hello Kitty glued to my handguns. I’m strait, never had anything to do with hello kitty befor, but it reminds me that I am the ‘nerd with a gun’ and not ‘exspecial forces badass with a gun’. :D
However, I do think the “fast and furious” question is valid.
Though it would be fun to monkey with the lettering and change it to “Goodbye, Kitty”.
Our friends from south of the border committing the murders that Americans just will not do.
Soon the headlines will read “Home grown terrorist”.
The answer will come slowly if ever. Covered up due to an ‘ongoing investigation’. Nothing to see here, now just move along; the gestapo has things well in hand.
Exceptionally valid Lee. Dots and Lines connecting?
He probably convinced the SSDI Judge that he was crazy.
In order to qualify for SSDI, you have to have worked 40 quarters, which means he has to have been working for 10 years.
I'm thinking he was using a false ID and he's not the person he has been pretending to be.
For what it’s worth, being mentally ill has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not that AK47 was a Fast and Furious (or similar operation) gun.
And being mentally ill does not mean the shooter is NOT associated with a drug cartel who might be looking to take down someone who they had concerns about.....some National Guardsmen, for example, who might have learned something they shouldn’t have.
And what is Sencion’s religion, for example? Has it changed recently? I understand that jihadists find mentally ill muslims easier to recruit for suicide missions than sane muslims. That makes sense.
Think of it ~ we have here a Mexican with a US Passport on SSI, and he seems to have a fully automatic AK-47 that was already traced back to a purchase by the Mexican Police (FROM WHO?).
Think of that, ATF supposedly traced this sucker all the way back to the Mexican police AS THE FIRST ORDER OF BUSINESS!
So where did they get the information to do that? Obviously you don't go around buying AK-47s in the open market, particularly if they belonged to the Mexican police ~ who appear to have reported it missing from their inventory of AK-47s.
Those reports on the weapon were on the street BEFORE we knew the guy's name.
Yet to be answered, IS HE A CITIZEN? Hmmm. Also, despite reports he was a registered Democrat we have not yet received information on how many times he voted in the last year or two, or what his personal relationship with Senator Reid might be. This may be the guy who cuts his lawn (which in Nevada in so many places means moving colored rocks from one side of the walk to the other from time to time).
Is he really crazy? Is he faking it? Is he a contract killer?
All of these questions will eventually get answered but like in the case of Jared no one is going to get to ask him any personal questions. He'll be "taken away" and medicated. No trained interrogator will be allowed to cross examine him in court because he's never going on trial.
That's the way the Democrats handled that assassination in Arizona where Jared killed the Republican judge. We'll see it here ~ and we might well ask who this guy killed who was of some importance to some guy high up in the Obama Regime.
I do believe you are right, FRiend. A post above says he’s been in the US for only 10 years. Wouldn’t that be a coincidence that he has been here barely enough to get 40 quarters and that he has accomplished that.
Is there a right for a citizen to find the date of a weapon registration, date of purchase, etc., when the weapon’s being used in the commission of a crime?
Is there any right to insist that such evidence as that weapon be under control with a verifiable chain of custody?
“1. Where does a man on social security disability get the money to buy an ak47?”
In all fairness, if you ate a lot of ramman noodles, a poor person can save to buy a $550 Century Arms AK. Less then that for a sporty version of a Saiga.
I had not heard the AK47 had been already traced by the ATF back to the Mexican police.
Do you have a link to that info?
That’s huge: a weapon in the hands of an unstable man who got it somehow from the Mexican police ends up assassinating National Guardsmen and others in Carson City, Nevada.
I agree with you, but that’s too neat for a man on SSI to come up with that idea and then to kill himself.
He has parents so his qualification for SSI can rely on their credits.
So far all we have are multiple statements on the net ~ as comments ~ but it’s just a matter of time and we’ll find out. Issa should probably ask that question.
FoxNews reporting a motive:
Witnesses say actions were deliberate in killing of the victims.
FBI others talking to witnesses...ATF...how did he have 2 assault rifles and pistols?
Targeting the victims says there was a motive, but authorities saying there was no motive.
Family saying mentally ill. Authorities saying no known links to terrorists or IHOP.
Basically, the new info is that witnesses were saying that killings were deliberate, that suggests targeting, and targeting suggests intent/motive.
The other piece of new info was that the other weapon in Sencion’s vehicle was an “assault weapon.”
Wouldn’t he have to have been a minor at the time he went on SSDI to rely on his parents credits? And wouldn’t that only apply to someone with a severe disability either as a result of birth or accident?
Sounds to me like the family was running a scam. How many other family members are on SSDI or work comp disability or welfare?
Hey, Marlowe, isn’t Issa your congressman?
Fire an email at him asking he get all over this weapons investigation. They always listen to their own constituent’s emails first.
Where did you get that? That is a damning implicit admission of where ATF thought it might have come from.
...despite reports he was a registered Democrat...
Also, where is that from? Thanks
He does have to be a minor to rely on his parents’ credits, if I remember correctly, and, of course, he has to be a US citizen, which he doesn’t appear to be. And maybe his parents aren’t, either.
2. He was definitely born after the time that weapons had to be registered. When was the AK47 registered, who bought it, where did they buy it
So, I just happen to live in a state (Ohio) with crappy registration requirements?
Or, as the first story went, maybe he was a disgruntled former employee who just happened to pick up an AK47 at a gunshow and went down and killed some NGs.
Or, as other stories went, he was a Mexican with a US passport and he brought that AK47 (stolen from the police) with him on a trip.
Or, maybe he got that AK47 as a birthday gift back in Syria before the family moved here to imitate Mexicans (SEE: Shakira phenomenon eh).
Possibly that wasn't it, so he simply grabbed a neighbors AK 47 and went down to the IHOP for the Steak and Eggs breakfast but all the seats were taken. Some woman bothered him in the parking lot so he killed her too (SEE: Lee Harvey Oswald Syndrome).
Or, how many more suppositions you want to see ~ but SSI can be authorized ANYONE who comes down with certain deadly communicible diseases in this country ~ e.g. meningitis! They want you locked up for that one. And secondly they don't want you getting on any airplanes or trains going anywhere until you are clear of the infectious bodies. (I know a person who ended up in that trick bag ~ but fortunately he's now rehabbed and working). You can call the CDC on what options they have for folks with meningitis. They'll send someone right out in a space suit to talk to you!
They are remarkably humorless but as you recover, and learn to talk again, you'll be getting pocket money from Uncle Sam to allow you to buy coca cola and chips.
