The Census Bureau's annual report offered a dismal outlook for U.S. poverty, as the ranks of America's poor rose to nearly 1 in 6 people last year and the number of uninsured spiked to 49.9 million.
(Associated Press) -The overall poverty rate climbed to 15.1 percent, or 46.2 million, up from 14.3 percent in 2009. The official poverty level is an annual income of $22,314 for a family of four.
Reflecting the lingering impact of the recession, the U.S. poverty rate from 2007-2010 has now risen faster than any three-year period since the early 1980s, when a crippling energy crisis amid government cutbacks contributed to inflation, spiraling interest rates and unemployment.
Measured by total numbers, the 46 million now living in poverty is the largest on record dating back to when the census began tracking poverty in 1959. Based on percentages, it tied the poverty level in 1993 and was the highest since 1983.
Pretty shocking, considering Porkulus 1 has been in effect for over two years. Apparently it didn't work. But as always, President Obama has a solution, we heard it last week - Porkulus 2, also known as his "jobs plan." But there's not a whole of difference between Porkulus 1 and Porkulus 2, except for the fact that Porkulus 2 contains large scraps of class warfare, as Obama continues to hound "oil companies" and "corporate jet owners" - and this time, with tax increases.
Obama's "jobs plan" - just like his 2009 stimulus package (which was also a so-called jobs plan) - will again be a massive failure. And when everything is said and done, and he has sucked the life out of America's fiscal and economic prosperity, I think it's safe to say he will be out of a job himself. And then Mr. President, it's back to writing books on socialist propaganda.
change you can believe in right there.

no, don’t disturb these fools....all is proceeding nicely according to plan...
Look at what is happening in markets as we go whole Marxist like Europe. I think this guy has it right, unfortunately.
“Poverty” meaning (see http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2777794/posts):
>>In 2005, the typical poor household, as defined by the federal government, had air conditioning and a car. For entertainment, the household had two color TVs, cable or satellite TV, a DVD player and a VCR. In the kitchen, it had a refrigerator, an oven and stove, and a microwave. Other household conveniences included a clothes washer, clothes dryer, ceiling fans, a cordless phone, and a coffee maker. The family was able to obtain medical care when needed. Their home was not overcrowded and was in good repair. By its own report, the family was not hungry and had sufficient funds during the past year to meet all essential needs.<<
ummmm.... $22K a year is ‘poverty’ ???
it’s not living at the ritz... butI think I could scrape by on $500 bucks a week if I had to
That’s ok, a few years ago 1 in 8 were illegal. I don’t suppose those two groups relate somehow.
We need to close the Census and only operate it every ten years!!!!
Obomanomics - Hope, Change. He does it all for the middle class (who he despises, and his Obomacare will finally destroy them once and for all.)
Poverty is Sudan, Ethiopia, or 90% of China, where a rat, a cat, or a wormy vegetable is high cuisine.
What we define as poverty is luxury in other countries.
How many flat-screens is the cut-off for “poverty”? More than three? How many meals per week are you allowed to eat out before you get bumped up to “working class”? Nine? Twelve?
DNC Chairman Debbie Wasserman Schultz:We own the economy - June 15, 2011

FUBO GTFO! 494 Days until Noon Jan 20, 2013 - Hell Yes, change is coming!
This is a totally misleading story. And the government is misleading as well.
What they consider to be “poor” now is ridiculous. 80 some percent of “poor” people have an air conditioner. Over 70% have a car or truck, and of those people, 30-some percent have two vehicles. Large percentages have cable, cell phones, and dvd players. Half had a computer, and a sizeable amount had more than one, and a decent portion of those had home internet connections. Hardly any of the poor folks responded they were ever without food.
It’s nuts to describe these people many of whom don’t work yet get money, as poor. We have the richest poor in the world. Because of “entitlements” and wealth redistribution from the productive people.
And I forgot, about 40 percent of the “poor” owned their own home.
Richest poor in the world. Our “poor” is lower-to-mid middle class in the rest of the world.
Obama........ “right on target”!
Where is Barbra Streisand singing Happy Days are Here Again?
Didn’t she sing thst when The Clintoon was elected?
And wrong from day one.
This is one heck of an accomplishment for the ‘smart’ people. They have made so much progress so fast!/s/
