Am I One Cup of Tea Away from Voting for Sarah Palin?
Jewish Journal of Los Angeles' Keeping The Faith Blog ^ | September 21, 2011 | Ilana Angel

Posted on 09/21/2011 10:03:16 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

When I met Sarah Palin in March of last year, I wrote about it, and was immediately admired by some, and shunned by others. Members of the Republican Party praised me for being kind, and some of my liberal friends told me I was talking to the devil and needed to never speak of her again. There was not of lot of middle ground in my circle of friends, which I continue to find so interesting. Can people who have different political affiliations not be friends? As a liberal minded person, must I hate those who are conservative? Can there ever be harmony in politics?

I have some friends that I simply do not talk politics with, and it’s too bad because I like talking about government. I have a dear friend who refers to my encounter with Palin as a “lapse of judgment”, and “forgives” me for talking to her, but I am never allowed to speak of it again with her. I find it a little sad, but mostly hilarious. At the end of the day, I love this country, and want a bright future for my child, so my political leaning is toward who is going to provide the most opportunities for my son as he becomes a man, and heads out into the world to find his way.

Rachelle Frieberg is a woman who contacted me after I wrote about Palin. She is an interesting young woman, and the most politically aware person I have ever spoken politics with. When she contacted me about my meeting Palin I though she was Jewish, but it turns out she is a Born Again Christian. I went to school with an African American man named David Levy so shame on me for assuming. Rachelle knows a lot about politics, and while she is a fiscal conservative, she is knowledgeable about both sides. I was a guest on her radio show last year and we have becomes friends since then.

She reads my blogs about Palin, which started off quite flattering, and of late have been full of quite harsh criticism. I know she must think I’m unkind when I write such things, but she never says anything. She congratulates me on articles she likes, and stays away from the Palin ones. I thought I was a pop culture expert, but Rachelle has me beat. She knows her stuff, and curiously was never a political person. Her first election was in the year of the hanging chad, and she voted for the idiot. ( Love ya Rachelle!) She admits her early political leanings came from her parents.

I love her honesty about how she became political. So many people say they decided on their own, but I think we are what parents tell us, until we are old enough to choose on our own. Some people stay with what they know, and some educate themselves before solidly picking a side. Rachelle is a fiscal conservative. She is pro life, but understands there are times when abortion is the only option. She believes in the 2nd Amendment. She would not go to a gay wedding, but would send a gift and celebrate their happiness. She follows her beliefs, without hate.

When the tragedy of 9/11 happened, she decided she wanted to understand government and educate herself. She found that she was Republican for real, not because she was born into it. As her opinions strengthened and she learned more, she landed in the camp of Sarah Palin. Rachelle is not a dumb girl. She is a teacher, and has a Masters Degree. This is a woman who has selected her political party based on politics, not religion, and she is the first supporter of Palin that I have met who has done that. She believes in God, and knows God has nothing to do with Palin.

She thinks it’s unfortunate when people think of Sarah as uneducated and not ready to be President. When I write about Sarah not having a shot in hell, she still reaches out to see how I am, and supports me through the vicious attacks I get from some of Palin’s wacked out groupies. Rachelle is my friend. I appreciate and admire her convictions, both religiously and politically. In fact, we spent an hour on the phone the other day and at one point I almost suggested we go to a tea party event and that I thought Sarah had possibilities, and there was no Kool-aid being served.

Rachelle is able to discuss politics without judgment, and so it is a pleasure. I learn things, understand things, and can appreciate that not everything is set in stone. I want a great future for my son, and the only thing I know for sure, is that if Michele Bachmann is elected, we’re going to Canada. There will be a lot of political tension over the next 14 months. Some people will love some of what I say, and others will hate it. It will be entertaining to be sure, and at the end of the day, Rachelle and I will never agree on politics, but we will be friends, even through a presidential election.

Political views are not something worth ending a friendship over, so I guess it’s a shame I have such immature friends. The next year will be more interesting because of Rachelle. I’m a little scared that I drink so much tea everyday, but all will be fine if I educate myself, and keep the faith.

I think Mr. Obama is in big trouble if individuals like this are even considering voting for Gov. Sarah Palin.

and to think our Miss Sarah has not even announce yet. Face it. People want her to run. The liberals that want her to run more and more sound like they just may want to vote for her. haha. ironic isn’t it. I’ll never forget when Sarah called it as it was. Speaking truth when she said Obama was a community organizer and this is all we have really seen out of this president is the professional, most powerful man in the world not as president, but as—as Sarah said—a community organizer and that is for his commie and thieving friends.

I will never forget the first day I saw Sarah on TV. She truly is a God send to Americans and the world. I do hope she runs. She is a game changer—truly. She always has been and always will be. God bless Sarah and the USA.

Obama is a disaster. If the left sees it then so be it. Maybe they will understand prosperity does not derive from a socialist. Good Grief, How far our Nation has completely ruined the electorate.

Indeed he is. I'll bet Sarah's going to close the deal with people all across the political spectrum, before this is all said and done.

Do you believe there is the possibility that this is but the first example of the beginning of a political mischief making campaign orchestrated by the Left to scatter the conservative sheep? Nah, surely the Left would not use such an easy tactic, so visibly transparent, and with no overhead charges, but for the pen and the piece of paper. Just press, “send”.

When a true PDSer starts their crap, just post a link to their post history. They hate when people get the opportunity to see who they are really dealing with.

Less BS, more legitimate discussion of the issues. Win/Win for everyone...but the disruptors.

It isn’t mischief at all. They propped up Romney only to get hooked by Perry. Let em’ fight. When Palin jumps in they become irrelevant because she plays no liberal anything.

If it is it’s another bad mistake on their part. While we may sit in different camps, there are indeed where Palin/Perry and their supporters agree. And if a center/left writer exposes the Left/and left/indys to those philosophies, I see it as a win for us all.

IMO of course.

Well, All that is true. The REAL reason is he lived a good and fruitful life in this great nation that he could recall at will from his lifeguard days to Hollywood. He found love to be a tough measure and found his soul-mate. He found Horses to be very proud and happy beasts to help him relieve stress. He got to play roles in movies and sincerely get panned. He was a Great American.

I challenge you to find that in the field of candidates.

Well, yes, of course. If you buy it in the first place. Being cynical and a hand wringer, I don’t buy this white flag waving for a minute. Also wouldn’t buy it if it favored Perry either, I must add.

From the article: "As a liberal minded person, must I hate those who are conservative?"

It is only the repeated and serious outrages against the U.S. Constitution which have allowed us to arrive at a point in time in which it is impossible to reconcile the conservative and liberal viewpoints.

There are sad days ahead. Are we living in a time like the years leading up to the Civil War? There must have been many then who recognized that "a house divided cannot stand".

Where will the nation end up, given that the present administration's solution to over-spending is to spend more?

In the “current” candidates? Nope. In the “Unannounced” candidates, Palin seems to have a few of those characteristics locked down. There will only ever be one Ronaldus Magnus, a man who was not in any way perfect himself, but I think SP has a lot of his best qualities.

I get your drift, and I don’t disagree (may be a first for us Rita ;) But I also have gotta think that Obama has seriously damaged the libs as well as the rest of us and hell hath no fury like a lib scorned.

Could she be full of it? Quite possibly. Perhaps even likely. Time will tell, but I think some will honestly jump the fence before this is over just to be rid of our mutual problem. Obama.

I was too young to vote For RR in Round 1 but I proudly cast my first vote ever for him for 4 more years. God I miss that man and what he did for America after Carter nearly destroyed us.

I grew up in a typical Northeast Dem family and my Grandmother about disowned me for that vote. She died a couple years back in her late 90s and came to realize long before then what a great man and great President he was. And she’d seen a couple in all those years ;)

I’m hoping that Charlie Daniels is still around to do an updated version of “In America” in 2013.

Can people who have different political affiliations not be friends? As a liberal minded person, must I hate those who are conservative?

Do you take anti-depressants? Do your friends?

Are you a part of a private social obediance group? Are your friends?

The answers to these questions hold the answers to your questions.

“As a liberal minded person, must I hate those who are conservative?”

Doesn't that statement tell you all you need to know about the Liberal mindset?

Although I think most Liberals are Communists without the sensible wardrobe, I have never questioned myself in regard to my personal hatred of them. Most are uninformed dimwits who live an illusion of questioning authority, which is the exact opposite of how they live their lives. I pity them, I only hate their imbecilic uninformed beliefs.

If Liberals really believed what they profess, they would never lock their front doors. The odds of a Palin supporter, (the ones like me that own a whole bunch of guns), robbing them are as remote as Obama getting a real job. On the other hand, the odds of another Liberal true believer ransacking their home are about equal to the sun rising in the East.

Man, it must suck being a Liberal that admits the truth to themselves.

Throughout the U.S., the political left and the political right MIGHT end up in a civil war, sometime in the future. The political divide continues to get worse and worse...More political correctness and less commonsense solutions on all of the issues, more activist judge activities, more amnesty for illegal immigrants, any other pro-leftist activities...any to all of these things, combined, COULD, eventually, lead to having a civil war, throughout the U.S.

Well, except when they see the light. Some of the most eloquent, passionate conservatives I know are former liberals who admitted the truth to themselves. I look at liberals, especially young ones, as potential future conservatives. When I hear disillusioned liberals call Rush Limbaugh, talk about how they saw the light and are now conservatives, and he tells them, "Welcome home" -- I get all choked up.

That's what I like to think we conservatives and lovers of the Judeo-Christian ethic that made this country great, are like: waiting to welcome our once-lost fellow Americans HOME.

I missed it and it was a fun and unique read. Thank you for sharing this context to the above. I still think that intangible-hard-to-put-on-paper-or-describe natural connection Sarah has with people will be the winning formula. Of course it doesn't hurt that she loves our Country and is full of good solid common sense ideas.
