Imagine you threw a party and no one showed up. Thats how members of the environazi movement must feel after Mondays anti-oil sands protest at the Parliament grounds in Ottawa.
Billed as the biggest environmental demonstration in Canadian history with thousands of protestors expected to attend, what actually resulted were a few hundred people showing up.
In theatrical terms, the show was a flop.
The media, instead of filling the papers and televisions with reports of a massive protest, is instead dissecting the failed event with numerous theories as to what happened. Gang Green must also be wondering.
Someone forget to tweet? Not enough unemployed people with time to kill?

The problem with depending on the “What’s Happening Now” crowd, is the possibility of something else happening when you think you’re the thing that’s happening.
I have Canadian relatives, and they cannot help but spout off about how awful the U.S. is every chance they get. Put a sock in it Canada. Just keep sending us lumber, oil, and comedians, and we'll keep watching your back and fueling your economy like we've been doing for 200 years...
“Get all excited and go to a yawning festival” - Steve Martin (Grandmother Song)
A few hundred? The media must of been counting each other as part of the group. These 'protesters' are living in the past - the 70's are O-VAR. What was mildly cool 40 years ago - isn't cool at all today...
Actually, I doubt most Canadians hate the U.S. as is proclaimed by some people. We had a very nice chat with a Canadian guy near an Alberta provincial monument (Smashed In Buffalo Head or something like that). After noticing our Wisconsin license plates, the guy walked over and talked our ears off about himself and his family. I would think he was probably the average Canadian. At least the average Albertan.
Alberta is the Texas of Canada, much more conservative than the rest of the country.
The perceived anti-Americanism in Canada is vastly overblown. The national broadcaster (CBC) and some lefties down East feel that way, but for the rest of us (especially in Alberta), we have no problem with our Yankee cousins...except for your poor choice for Prez, of course.
Are you a conservative against free speech, marketing and promotion, or are you a liberal killing time on a con site? Just wonderin’...
Some people just don't get it. This sites owner has made it quite clear many times that he doesn't like people excerpting their blogs here.
Are you masquerading as a conservative blogger, perhaps a Soros troll, posting on conservative sites to draw traffic to your scummy blog in hopes of garnering unearned revenue?
He/She is a self proclaimed, slightly right of center, (1 of) posting history, blog pimp.
Being “middle of the road” around here is almost as dangerous as being a BlogPimp.
Pimping for hits to your blogpage?
This is pretty is a really nice place for those who would like to engage in commentary and the exchange of ideas.
It is not a place that can be used illicitly for anyone’s self serving business plan.
That's a real good name for them.
Yeah, I know, the vast majority of Canadians are great people, and good friends to the U.S. I just like busting their chops once in a while :-)
