"An unconstitutional killing: Obama's killing of Awlaki violates American principles" Ron Paul
NY Daily News ^ | 10/2/11 | Ron Paul

.....I don't trust Obama with determining what protections I should be allowed as a citizen any more than I trust him with our general defense, the economy, health care, job growth - or anything else.

The usual justification for such abuse of the rule of law is that the post-9/11 period demands a different code of conduct to ensure people's safety. But politicians can always find excuses for why they should be allowed to disobey the Constitution.....

This is interesting because some libertarians that I read support what they call the Swiss method of self defense which is arming alll citizens, teach them gurrilla warfare and aim at killing/assassinating all in leadership whether it be platoon commander, king, general.... and so on.

the little guys fold when leadership is dead...Think of the film “V”.

It wasnt the people fighting back at the end that stopped the tyranny, it was the assasinations of the leadership.

I dunno—should we have tried, before a jury, the CSA before engaging in battle at Gettysburg? They were Americans too.

With that said—Awlaki had dinner at the Pentagon—they could have nabbed him then.

A mere technicality.
I am willing to give Obama a pass on this one.
I dont think I will make it a central arguing point on why Obama needs to be removed from office.
I am not willing to give him a pass on all the sorry crap he has done to destroy the nation.

And if Adolf Eichmann was still actively murdering Jews at the time, Israel would have taken him out and not captured him - big difference.

During WWII many American citizens went to Germany to fight for Hitler. When captured and discovered to be Americans they were often summarily executed as traitors by military tribunals. This was and is entirely legal by a hundred years or more worth of international rules of war.

A few years back the Rats tried to claim that US citizens who joined alQaeda were entitled to lawyers and civil trials. This is completely false. However corrupt left wing pols ignored the law and used their false claim simply for another hammer to beat Bush with. Obama was one of these pols. Now he gets to deal with an issue that he helped to create which is too bad for him.

But it is completely legal to kill US Citizens who take up arms in foreign lands against the USA. They can be killed on the field or sleeping in their beds or anywhere any time unless they surrender at which time they are subject to military jurisdiction. Ron Paul and the ACLU are completely wrong.

I don’t know about anyone else. But on a scale of 1-10 of constituitonal violations over the last 60 years, this one rates about a 2.

Traitors who attack America and fight with our declared enemies are subject to termination.

The only problem here is that Obama and his pals attacked Bush for fighting our enemies, and now he’s doing it himself, probably intended as a campaign trick.

"Al Awalki is a citizen?"

"Hey Ron, we used to call ***holes like this traitors.

So wouldn't that give us the right to do the same to all members of politics the same treatment?

Would not TOTUS be #1 on that hit list?

Not a Paulite and no tears for American jihadis but assasinating American citizens should at least make us think about the constitutional questions. I’m not real comfortable with any POTUS having that power let alone this one. Fireright? Kill’em all. But I think I would be much more comfortable with oversight from Congress. Or try him in absentia and declare him an enemy combatant who is operational. Some kind of check on this power is logical and desirable I think.

True, but I still worry about a handful of crazed Islamofacsists stepping into our schools at some point. 9/11 was possible for them because it was evil beyond our imagination. I’m not sure that there is a bottom in the sea of depravity in which some of these monsters operate, so the unthinkable must be considered.

Give me your thoughts on what our response should be if God forbid something like the above should happen.

Hey Ron, STFU!

The authority comes from “We the People”, and we are good with it.

Just becasue we didn’t spend 16 million dollars on a trial doesn’t mean we didn’t give public consent: we didn’t call our representatives to demand a trial.

The distinction should always be made that Awlaki was not just fighting the government of the U.S., he wanted to kill Americans, and destroy the country and its treasured institutions. When any American makes war against this country his or her citizenship could not matter less.

the left and this pro homo, cross dressing media went mad over Gitmo and said Bush should be impeached but they seem to have no problem that zero can give orders now to kill Americans .

What happened to trials and juries what the left and pro homo media wanted?

I’ts the hypocrisy what really does astound me and yet they cannot see it.

By the way, just watched The Patriot last night, twice, for the 1st time.

I can’t wait for 2012 because I am so “anti” right now, which is not me. I want to BE for something, instead of against.

Tea Parties always renew my FOR and diminish my against. I keep praying to God that He forces Sarah to run, lol.

When Nazi leader and Holocaust mastermind Adolf Eichmann was convicted and executed by the Israeli government in 1962, it was after he was captured, extradited and tried.

And just to set the record straight, Eicchmann wasn't extradited, but kidnapped. Not that he didn't deserve what he got, but there is a difference.

Which battlefield is that? Yemen?

I'm no Paul-ite (Paulian?). I agree with some of what he says in terms of domestic issues; but, as far as foreign policy goes, he's a dangerous, blame-America kook.

He's also right on this one. You are shortsightedly endorsing a precedent because, in this single instance, it has yielded a result that you (and I) like.

Unfortunately, the precedent has now been set for other actions that you WILL NOT LIKE.

A better example of the end justifying the means could not be found.

No.

Al Awaliki was actively and “overtly” working against the US.
