The Occupy Wall Streeters Are Real Whackadoos
http://libertarian-neocon.blogspot.com/2011/10/occupy-wall-streeters-are-real.html ^ | libertarian neocon

I'm sure their whackadoo status doesn't really come as a surprise to most but you really don't understand the full extent of their idiocy until you see this "Proposed List of Demands For Occupy Wall St Movement!" which I paste below with commentary:

Demand one: Restoration of the living wage. This demand can only be met by ending "Freetrade" by re-imposing trade tariffs on all imported goods entering the American market to level the playing field for domestic family farming and domestic manufacturing as most nations that are dumping cheap products onto the American market have radical wage and environmental regulation advantages. Another policy that must be instituted is raise the minimum wage to twenty dollars an hr.

Imposing a tariff on all trade goods? Have they zero knowledge of history outside of Howard Zinn? Or even watched Ferris Bueller? This policy is a great way to destroy the US economy and the world economy with it (not that there is much left to destroy, but we need all we can get). I also love the minimum wage of $20 an hour. So businesses will have to deal with everything being more expensive thanks to tariffs and possibly have to pay their workers much more at the same time. How are they going to survive exactly? Tell me again how fewer jobs and everything being more expensive helpful to anyone?

Demand two: Institute a universal single payer healthcare system. To do this all private insurers must be banned from the healthcare market as their only effect on the health of patients is to take money away from doctors, nurses and hospitals preventing them from doing their jobs and hand that money to wall st. investors.

That demand just means these people have no idea how the healthcare system works. Private payors actually pay doctors much more than the government does, which usually pays doctors at a loss or a near loss for procedures (e.g. a doctor who has to pay $120 to do an osteoperosis test will only get $80 from Medicare for that test). Also, in all those single payor healthcare systems out in the world, how much are doctors making? They usually are paid like government employees, with the service to match. What an idiotic system that would be.

Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.

So even if you are a loser cleaning gum off the pavement you can be paid $20 an hour? Who pays for that?

Demand four: Free college education.

I guess professors will be paid with rainbows.

Demand five: Begin a fast track process to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end while at the same bringing the alternative energy economy up to energy demand.

A yes, because Solyndra worked so well! And what exactly do they mean by a fast track process?

Demand six: One trillion dollars in infrastructure (Water, Sewer, Rail, Roads and Bridges and Electrical Grid) spending now.

Because our old stimulus package worked so well! Also, with the price of everything being increased by previous demands, $1 trillion won't buy as much as you think.

Demand seven: One trillion dollars in ecological restoration planting forests, reestablishing wetlands and the natural flow of river systems and decommissioning of all of America's nuclear power plants.

Who wrote this? Dr. Evil Protester? 1 TREEEEEEELion dollars. Also, you know that we have 230 billion trees in the United States right now? That is 770 trees per person! I really don't think we need more trees as a nation. Have these people ever actually seen the middle of the country or the South?

Demand eight: Racial and gender equal rights amendment.

Here's a silly question, don't they already have equal rights? Given affirmative action, if anything they get special treatment.

Demand nine: Open borders migration. anyone can travel anywhere to work and live.

Good, because I think if these policies get instituted, I will definitely want to migrate. Out of this country!

Demand ten: Bring American elections up to international standards of a paper ballot precinct counted and recounted in front of an independent and party observers system.

How about we check ID's, wouldn't that be easier?

Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all. Debt forgiveness of sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans now! All debt must be stricken from the "Books." World Bank Loans to all Nations, Bank to Bank Debt and all Bonds and Margin Call Debt in the stock market including all Derivatives or Credit Default Swaps, all 65 trillion dollars of them must also be stricken from the "Books." And I don't mean debt that is in default, I mean all debt on the entire planet period.

Why do I get the feeling that whoever wrote this has a lot of debt? Also, wasn't this the plot of Project MAYHEM in Fight Club? Seriously though, this is probably the most ludicrous demand I have ever seen. One person's debt is another person's asset, after all. This will destroy all the banks. And given this policy, shouldn't I just not pay my taxes? Theoretically, I will be in debt to the government but that will be wiped out. It'll be interesting to see how these people pay for their trillion dollar projects with no money. Unless of course they just print it like Zimbabwe. So 1 trillion dollars might be the cost of a cup of coffee. Also, how do you demand that all debt be wiped out on Earth? How is your dinky little protest group going to get France to wipe off debt?

Demand twelve: Outlaw all credit reporting agencies.

So whoever wrote this has a lot of debt and a 600 or below credit score, I think it's all coming together. Again, this is a ludicrous demand. Without credit reporting agencies how can banks give out loans. Oh, I forgot, debt is illegal. Silly me. We are going to have to start using corduroy jeans as a means of exchange.

Demand thirteen: Allow all workers to sign a ballot at any time during a union organizing campaign or at any time that represents their yeah or nay to having a union represent them in collective bargaining or to form a union.

Kind of a moot point with no economy to go with it, isn't it?

These demands will create so many jobs it will be completely impossible to fill them without an open borders policy.

So let me get this straight, an economy with no banks, no ability to have debt, high prices due to tariffs and minimum wage laws will have "so many jobs it will be completely impossible to fill them without an open borders policy'? Next time they are on the Brooklyn Bridge, they might want to consider jumping off. Talk about a waste of (dirty) hair.

Watch the TV news and look at these clowns. I seriously doubt that more than 5 percent of them have ever held a job, most are very young, perhaps graduated from high school or are in college and likely have no idea what it takes to earn a living. They are not anarchists. They are commies. Pure, unadulterated commies hiding behind the ‘anarchist’ label to cover the the commie stench.

Real anarchists hate all institutions including govt. Especially govt. The only complaint you hear here about govt is that they aren’t spreading around enough wealth.

Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.

There it is. This is REALLY what they want. They want other people to work so they don't have to.

These freeloaders have been living on the street for three weeks. No one with a job, or even searching for a job, could spend that much time away from home.

pictures are much more entertaining.

just for the record, when you walk past them, you become aware of a crowd of weirdos, pretty much like any night in west village.

As soon as you cross the street, you're back into a crowd of commuters and tourists and other people who have something useful to do; the crowd of weirdos is instantly fogotten.

the only reason they're getting this much attention is that it "sells papers."

If they had jobs they would not be out their protesting for for days on end. Though It would be interesting to know how many of these radicals and revolutionaries are receiving college credit for protesting. Here in Washington, one college “Evergreen State” does offer credits for protesting, and they will likely find their professors out there with them.

Yup, it’s funny that all the demands pretty much require government to enforce them. How can you be an anarchist when you depend on government coercion?

Demand one: Restoration of the living wage.
Done. Minimum wage is more than enough to live on. See my tagline for starters; next visit http://www.tumbleweedhouses.com/ and http://www.google.com/search?q=free+land next.

Demand two: Institute a universal single payer healthcare system.
Done. You pay for your healthcare. It’s a service nobody else is compelled to pay for on your behalf.

Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.
Done. Your ancestors at some point lived on no income from others, but from the direct fruit of their toil & sweat. I’ll give you $10 in seeds and some chickens; you can make it from there.

Demand four: Free college education.
Done. Visit http://ocw.mit.edu and a library - get busy.

Demand five: Begin a fast track process to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end while at the same bringing the alternative energy economy up to energy demand.
Done. Buy a horse. 10,000 years of human history did fine without fossil fuels.

Demand six: One trillion dollars in infrastructure (Water, Sewer, Rail, Roads and Bridges and Electrical Grid) spending now.
Done. We did that, many times over.

Demand seven: One trillion dollars in ecological restoration
Done. You buy $3 in tree seeds and plant them, and persuade 10 of your friends to do the same.

Demand eight: Racial and gender equal rights amendment.
Done. “All men (gender-neutral pronoun usage here) are created equal.”

Demand nine: Open borders migration.
Done. You’re free to leave.

Demand ten: Bring American elections up to [par].
Done. Become an election observer.

Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all.
Done. Nobody owes you anything. Now fulfill the contracts you’ve agreed to.

Demand twelve: Outlaw all credit reporting agencies.
Done. Cut up your credit card and let your credit score go to zero.

Demand thirteen: Allow all workers to sign a ballot ... to form a union.
Done. Anyone can sign that ballot. And any company can fire you any time for any reason.

Demands fulfilled. Now go home.

How can one collect welfare with no government?

And it’s all so fascist. The late Jerry Williams, a Boston talk radio host who opposed “statism” used to tell this joke:

“Comes the Revolution, comrade, we’ll all eat strawberries and cream.”
“But I don’t like strawberries and cream.”

“Comes the Revolution YOU’LL EAT strawberries and cream!”

Somebody is funding these idiots and that’s where the real story is. ]

These “Silver spooners” and “bronze spooners” never even worked a damn day at a McDonalds or any other “menial job” until they got out of college and now have to work as a barista at the local starbucks because they are such a loser to pick a degree in something as useless as “underwater basket weaving”.

They went to college either on their parent’s dole or by voluntarily taking out tens of thousands in student loans all the time partying when they should have been studying and they expect life to be one damn big party. And then they whine about the being in debt when they get their useless degree????? They imposed it on themselves.

Most college kids who actually *gasp* WORK while they are in college actually have skills in terms of actual job hunting and don’t expect the jobs to just come fall into their lap after they walk across the stage on graduation day.

But some parents tell their children, “you shouldn’t have to work while you are in college because you need to study”. That is the worst thing you can do to a kid. Instead of learning valuable job skills during their free time they spend it hanging out and drinking and they graduate as stunted children expecting life to be an endless party.

I worked through college to support most all my costs, I paid off my student loans within 5 years of leaving college, My first job was at a McDonalds in High School and I started college the day after I graduated from High School. And I learned more valuable job skills during my two years in high school working at McDonalds than I ever did in college! I have several jobs when i was in college and after college I worked two jobs at once for a while to pay off debt. I bought my first house shortly after I could legally drink alcohol!!!! And I did it all without much help from Mommy and Daddy. I have even helped out other siblings financially when they hit upon hard times.

It is not about education it is about DRIVE and the way children are abused by liberal thinking has eliminated this drive.

These demands are inconsistent. And rather funny.

Take, for example, 1 (no free trade) and 9 (free immigration). they have the same effect, economically speaking

If Foreign is Labour abundant, then free trade would cause wages to fall at home and rise at foreign. Free factor movements (the phrase economists use to describe the movement of capital or labour instead or goods) have the same effect.

Yes, there is a consensus on this.

Try this: http://nationofbeancounters.wordpress.com/2011/10/04/this-is-funnier-if-you-ve-finished-third-year-international-trade/

End The FED! Is something that people on the right and left agree is at the root of the problem. Without the FEDERAL RESERVE, the GOV couldn’t bailout Wall Street, nor could they de-value your money. As for the Government bailing out the american people debt, I’d rather have that then them bailing out Wall Street, but both perpetuate more GOV, as do these overseas wars.

If you want public support to continue to grow we had better shape a living wage platform that the public can sink their teeth in. If generalized statements continue to be the organizing principal of this action then the public won’t continue to lend their trust. They have been burned so many times trusting the campaign rhetoric of the democratic party that they will be very careful to research this actions real platform.

I agree. I’d like to see how they plan to pay for all of these “free” services from the government. Also, if everyone had a college education, a college degree’s value would plummet, causing a higher demand for Masters, PhD’s, etc. Such a myopic list of demands.

I’d like to add a few more:

Make the Middle East stop fighting.

Everyone gets a helicopter that runs on children’s laughter.

Gummy bears are free.

Nobody judges anyone for having dumb ideas or lists of demands. (cough)

Exactly. My first born recently graduated with a Fine Arts degree and now works in one of the countries largest museums. It was her first job interview!
The next in line is still in college, but just got an apprenticeship in the IT department of a world wide manufacturing company. He got two interviews, and got both positions. He had to chose one.
Of course, neither are covered in so many tattoos and piercings they look like old wall eyes. They're clean, neat, polite, and well educated (we home schooled).

I don't think the problem is education. I think it's the tattoos, piercings, entitlement attitude, and inability to pass the pee test.

“$20/ hour whether I work or not, debts wiped clean, free healthcare - I’d never work another day in my life. In fact, I bet A LOT of people would never work again.”

Uh-huh. Not.

$20/hr for doing nothing means $20 is worth nothing. That means $40,000 will buy you nothing because nobody has to do anything but wait a year to accumulate it. $40/hr would become the new minimum wage, and prices would adjust to match. Elsewhere I’ve noted that a gallon of gas is now worth about 20 minutes of work; regardless of what minimum wage is, and what minimum work for that wage is, a gallon of gas will always be worth around 20 minutes of mundane burger-flipping floor-sweeping labor, and the common medium of exchange will adjust to that (and if the dollar is rendered null by $20=nothing, then another currency will arise).

Most people, being used to debt and seeing debt as a reasonable path to their financial goals, will go right back into it. Vast numbers of debt-free homes will go on sale the next day, as the owners seek to upgrade via mortgages ... collapsing the market. Those used to spending beyond their means will swipe that credit card just as fast. Think the federal government would consider sovereign forgiveness of $15T debt a blessing? baloney - they’ll start the first year by racking up the $1.5T we’re already working on, and spend until they catch up that number quick. The frugal and thrifty will remain so.

Free healthcare means demanding the most expensive treatments for the most minor ailments. A childhood scratch will demand premium dermitalogical reconstruction. Expensive medicines will be demanded in lieu of suitable cheap ones (I can either watch what I eat and pay $3/month for my meds, or $250/month for the latest no-diet-restrictions stuff; if meds are “free”, you’re paying me a lot to eat salads). Even now, I see my kids getting premium treatment for stuff that just got a bandaid before (thousands of $$$ instead of pennies).

Heck yeah you’ll work again. $100,000/yr will become barely enough to get by, upon which you’ll rack up a half-million in debt by year’s end, and you’ll be working 3 jobs by the time you realize you’re suffering “Jackpot Winner Syndrome” (most lottery winners are destitute in short order).
